Vehicle Detail

1998 Audi A4 Quattro, extremely clean, very nice! Let me start by saying this is an extremely clean example of a 1998 Audi A4 Quattro with only 128,000 miles, unfortunately all of the little quirks associated with these Audi's are also currently happening on this vehicle, more on that later! I am currently buying and selling cars as part time work/hobby and took a car to sell at auction in Oklahoma and needed a car to get me back home and drive for a few weeks. I came across this Audi, I have always loved the A4's, all Audi's for that matter, I have owned an 83 UrQuattro, an 87 4000CS Quattro and an 80 quattro so this one immediately caught my attention. When I first got this car it appeared to be in pretty good shape, the interior, although dirty at the time looked like it had great potential, I am fanatical about cleanliness of interiors, to the point of removing seats, consoles, etc to really get in and scrub every inch of the interior, this car was no exception, I will let the picture speak for themselves but I really don't think you will find a 14 year old car much cleaner. After cleaning the interior I moved to the transmission, I noticed driving it home that it had a bit of a high speed slip so I removed the pan, replaced the filter and gasket and refilled, it now shifts perfectly. Next I moved to the engine and replaced vacuum lines and resealed the valve cover gaskets to solve an oil leak (one of the above quirks). Now for the rest of the quirks, the ABS lights are on, and flashing, apparently this is a common problem with these cars (quirks above) so I replaced the problematic ABS control unit but still the lights are on with an occasional beep. Turns out you have to have the computer reset after replacing the ABS controller, I have not done this. Next the air bag light is on, I think this car was at some point involved in a minor side accident, I had to replace the drivers side seatbelt because these have an air lock unit on the seatbelts to immediately secure the seat belt in the event of an accident, the seat belt with no longer retract afterwards so I replaced it, anyway, I bought a new air bag sensor but then read that the current sensor could be reset, same tool as the ABS controller. Next, the check engine light is on, I have ordered o2 sensors and will get them installed, this should clear the check engine light. The headliner has the typical sag and finally the drivers seat will not recline, could be simple but it is in the perfect position for me (it moves all other directions) so I have not worried about it, I will however try to fix this. Now the good! I have put about 2,000 miles on this, it runs great, gets about 26 mpg on the highway and about 20 in town, it has the 2.8 V-6, if you have never driven this engine it is fantastic! It has a raspy sound, very nice exhaust note, nice acceleration, a real joy to drive! Despite all the little things I have mentioned I never hesitate to hop in this car and drive it anywhere, none of the above things will keep you from driving and enjoying it. As for all the quirks, there is a tool dealers have called a VAG scanner, it is for Audi's and VW's, from what I have read the ABS and Air Bag lights can be reset by simply hooking it up to this machine, the parts have been replaced so all it needs is a reset, you might be wondering why I haven't done this? To me this car was just a short term problem solver, I needed a ride for a short time, I have enjoyed it, thought I would like a 4 door sedan, and do love it but realize I need a wagon for all of the things I have to haul around. I have something else to drive now and other more profitable cars to work on so spending time on this one to make a couple hundred more dollars just doesn't make financial sense it is that simple. I really think this is a great car, there really isn't anything wrong with it, the parts have been replaced, the computer just needs to be reset to recognize the new parts. Happy to answer any questions, it is ready to drive anywhere, it should make someone a great car for very little money! On Mar-05-12 at 19:28:08 PST, seller added the following information: Forgot probably the best thing I have done to this car! If you are at all familiar with early A4's you probably know about the lack of cupholders! I solved that problem with an armrest out of a Volvo! I have done this before on a Land Cruiser and just happened to have one laying around for my current Land Cruiser (Land Cruisers at least have cupholders but they are seriously deficient) The armrest with a bit of modification fits nicely on the Audi armrest, it opens and latches closed just as it is supposed to, you would never know it isn't stock. The color is off a shade or two but actually adds a nice contrast. About the color, I called it tan, actually it is a grayish tan, hard to describe but very nice color I think.
