**LAST TIME I'M LISTING THIS CAR AND LOWEST PRICE YET!!! ** This is my 1986 Nissan Maxima GL Talking Car. I say talking because it really does talk to you when you do certain things like leave your lights on or keys are in the ignition, etc. I purchased this back in Nov. 2006. I checked out the vehicle history report and I see I am just the 2nd person to own the car, and that I also only put on about 10,000 miles while I had it. That first owner kept the car in the garage and took great care for it, because when I got it, and it was already 20 years old, it was shocking for it's new looking condition. Unfortunately I did not have a garage to keep it in, so it's had to battle the sun, snow, weather over the last 5 years. But it has stood up pretty good over those years with the exception of a couple different spots. I would always have it washed and waxed and got the oil changed on a regular basis. So overall for the age of the car it's still in pretty good shape and has what I consider to be low mileage for it's year. I haven't put that much mileage on it over the years. Of course with a car this age I have had to replace some parts over the years and they are as follows: 1. New rack and pinion steering. 2. New radiator and hoses. 3. New wiring and plugs, etc. 4. The battery is pretty new also, purchased little over a year ago. 5. New coil. Now with any older car it does have it's issues, nothing that is that serious except one, the others are more like minor things. And they are: 1. You will definitely need a new muffler system, from front to back. That's one reason I am selling the car at the price listed and not for more, because you will need that fixed! I still drive the car around town only, don't take it on any long rides at all. The muffler has holes, it's not too loud yet, but it's getting there. Because of the condition of the muffler if you are picking up the car from far away, I would extremely recommend sending a flatbed for the car. Not sure if you take it on some long journey, that the muffler will make it home with you! I am in Elizabeth, N.J. about 2 miles from Kean University which is on Morris Ave. in Union. 2. The body itself is in good shape, with the exception of the right back wheel well. That will need a little body work, it's not horrible, but better looking if fixed. (see picture) There is also rust damage on both sides of the car right behind the front wheels near the very bottom before where the door starts. You can't see this unless you bend down and look because the car curves in as you get to the bottom. Both sides are almost identical to this pic. It's also a smaller spot then how it looks here in the picture, this is blown up so you can see it. So some body work will be needed here along with the other spot behind the right rear tire. The car has it's original paint. I never had an accident with the car! (Knock on wood) 3. The antenna which is electric, goes up when the radio is turned on, but won't go down by itself, it needs a push to get it back down which it will do. 4. The car does not leak at all inside, especially the sunroof, but there is a humming while I drive either from the sunroof or the top of the windshield where I guess some wind is getting in. Haven't had that looked at, so not 100% sure where that is coming from. 5. While speaking of the sunroof, lately it has had a mind of it's own. Sometimes it opens and sometimes it won't. I've never had a problem at all when closing it once it is open. I don't know if there is a twig or pebble stuck in the track, but like I said it doesn't always happen. But importantly it does not leak at all! 6. There is a trunk release button inside the car, that is broken, so the key is needed to open the trunk. 7. I had the front left tire replaced recently due to a flat, so that's the newest tire. But after I did that, not sure what this mechanic did but the car pulls a little to the left. 8. Air-Conditioning. Doesn't work. It will start to get cold after you've been driving for like 20 mins. which is worthless since mostly I don't drive it that long anyway. So I never had it looked at. It may only need a re-charge of freon. The fan is ok which of course I use for the heat, so it must be I'm guessing the freon. There are 4 settings on the fan from low to high, I only use up to setting 3, cause when you use the highest fourth setting it makes a vibrating noise so I only use the 1st,2nd or 3rd. So, yes of course a 25-26 year old car has some problems, which should be expected, but nothing too serious except for that muffler system! The car runs ok, you may need a tune-up, I haven't done that in awhile. In the winter I get some smoke out of the exhaust but then it clears up after the car is warmed up. I always would warm up the car before I drove away, I was told to always do that because of it's age. In the summer there is no smoke at all, so not sure what prompts that. Now for some of the great things about this car. The body and paint is in great shape for it's age except for that one spot. All four tires are in good condition, with the one being the newest. People have stopped me and talked to me when I get out of the car when I go to certain places asking me what year that car is. I took it to the Nissan dealer once to get a fuse and I happened to park out in front of the showroom, and before I could get out of the car, four guys came out and were in awe of the shape of the vehicle for it's year. It has the nice chrome all over it, and the headlights are glass, not cheap plastic. The wheels are also I believe aluminum or steel and one piece, there are no hubcaps. The radio still works and speakers, though you may want to replace the back speakers, they are just getting old. I hardly ever use the radio or cassette deck for music, because I hooked up a satellite radio from sirrus in the car which I ran through the cassette deck with one of those adapters I got off of ebay, and I would also play my ipod off that too. I will leave the adapter in the car in case you want to do the same. There is a gas cover release lever inside the car next to the drivers seat that opens the gas cover. Can't tell you how many times I'd pulled up to the pumps and forget to hit the lever and the attendant would have to ask me to open it. It has a lock on it, which I have the key, but never use it. There is also an alarm system built into the car already. When you get out of the car and it's locked you see the security light flashing inside, then it goes out. Now the car is secure, if someone breaks in the car horn starts blasting. If you set it off by accident, you just close the door and open it with the key and the alarm goes off. This car amazingly for the year also has a door alarm security pad, which I never use because I don't know the code! I believe when the original owner bought this car he got a top of the line model and fully loaded. The back seat is immaculate, almost no one has ever sat back there. I was told this by the guy I bought the car off of. And even I have only had people back there a few times. Now I have smoked in the car, there is an actual ashtray. But when I did, I always had the sunroof open and the window, and I was careful. There are no burn holes at all on the seats. The whole front area of the car including the dash and radio console is in good shape. I've seen other cars just like mine of this age, and they are a total wreck! But it may smell somewhat smokey inside, but I'm told if you get the car detailed inside you can get rid of that completely. It has a valid inspection sticker on it also. So overall and considering the exceptions that I have listed the car is in pretty good shape for it's years! I have been as truthful as I can be for my knowledge of cars which is like non existent. Whenever something would happen with the car, right to the mechanic. I'm not a fixer upper with a car at all. Oh, and I didn't mention the trunk which is a pretty good size and neat. There is one of those donut spares below the trunk carpet. The jack is also still in the trunk too. I also actually found and bought an original owners manual for this car off of ebay, got lucky with that one, so that's there too. There is also a hand crank handle which is for the sunroof in an emergency if it is stuck open I guess, and this handle gets attached from the inside of the car. Not really sure how that all works, never had to use it. Now if you have any questions about the car, of course send me a message before you bid, and I will get back to you asap on that. I don't want to say I'm selling this car as is because it deserves more then that, but I guess I am selling it as is. It's not a perfect car, it has it's little quirks and problems, but if you get some of these things fixed you will be stopped by people just like I have been when you drive this car around town. Thanks for spending the time looking!
