Vehicle Detail

I bought this motorcycle from the original owner in 1996, with about 7,000 miles. The motorcycle is a non-running project bike that has been sitting idle since 2004 when I quit riding. It has been sitting for 8 years. The fork seals failed, leaking the oil out. I am not sure if the engine oil has leaked out or not. In any event, the bike needs a complete rebuild for sitting for 8 years. It ran fine up to that point in 2004, so whatever is necessary to get a BMW running after 8 years of disuse is what will have to be done. This was a great running bike when I quit riding in 2004. I should have sold it immediately but kept thinking I might get back into riding and the years just slipped by. Now the bike needs full rebuilding from sitting for 8 years, but the green painted body is in beautiful shape and while not mint, is absolutely excellent. I have no clue what repair such a motorcycle needs after sitting for 8 years without use. The seals are shot, the carburetors need rebuilding, beyond that I don't know if the engine needs rebuilding or if the electrics are sound. I just don't know. All I know is, these old bikes are very popular in their niche and with a very clean body, this bike is perfect for a project to get it back roadworthy to beat the high gas prices, or as a parts bike to your existing BMW airhead. I cannot ship this motorcycle and the buyer ABSOLUTELY MUST pick it up in person in San Francisco. It is being stored in home in San Francisco in the area around West Portal and Stonestown. I also will not accept any payment but Cashier's Check, Money Order, or cash. This bike listing includes a Custom Corbin seat with passenger backrest that I took off the bike right after purchase because the seat was too high for me. The seat is shown in the pictures but I forgot to include a picture of the passenger backrest. It is in perfect condition just as you see the seat is in the picture. Here is the history and gory details. In 1997 I rode around the country on a 2-month vacation and spilled the bike on the dirt and grass in a loop on ramp off Route 24 in Brockton, Massachusetts. The person behind me who helped me out thinks I went down at about 15 mph. I think I went down at about 25 mph. In any event, most of the plastic body parts were cracked. I returned to Oakland after adding 7,000 more miles on my vacation and took the bike to Schleicher Suzuki/BMW on MacArthur Blvd. in Oakland for an inspection. The frame and mechanical systems were all intact. Scleicher replaced most of the body parts and repainted them the original OEM green color. I still have the invoice for the repair and the following parts & labor are listed: Replace and paint right hand lower fairing Replace and paint left hand Lower fairing Paint and stripe fuel tank Paint and stripe upper fairing Paint and stripe tail cowl The painted plastic body parts and painted metal fuel tank are all in exceptional condition with no scratches or blemishes. The bike was ridden rain and shine so it has a lot of minor cosmetic corrosion. Nothing structural, but the frame and chrome bits have plenty of light rust. Costmetically it is not a show bike or minty. The frame has some corrosion. Not rusted solid or anything, but some rust here and there as it was The chrome trim has a lot of minor corrosion. The painted wheels are in very good shape with very little rust or corrosion. The engine covers are scraped from touching down. That is just where the airheads hit the ground in steep turns, so this is typical. The OEM hardbags each have a short scrape in the middle of the outward face. The exhaust pipes are severely corroded where they see the most heat, which is common. The OEM mufflers are in great shape with very little corrosion. The OEM seat is pretty oxidized. There is only one key and the key has no key fob, which came off when I laid the bike down in 1997. The left battery cover was stolen. I bought a replacement but it has not been painted the OEM green, it is still just in primer white. So a replacement left batter cover comes with the bike but unfortunately, it is not painted the green the rest of the body is painted.
