THIS IS A 1988 AVANTI REBODIED ON A 1988 MONTE CARLO. IT IS A GREAT LOOKING CAR WITH A STUDEBAKER LOOK AND THE DEPENDABILITY OF A CHEVROLET DRIVE TRAIN. IT HAS A 305 WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE CURRENT OWNER HAS RECENTLY REPLACED THE AC COMPRESSOR, TIRES, STEREO AND SUSPENSION. RUNS GREAT AND IS AVAILABLE AT A REASONABLE PRICE. HISTORY OF THE 1988 AVANTI Michael Kelly purchased the assets of and rights to the Avanti for $722,000. Immediately he was faced with the daunting challenge of modernizing the chassis, meeting government regulations, and establishing supplier relationships. GM would have nothing to do with him having been "burned" by Avanti in the past. His solution was to base the Avanti on the Monte Carlo from General Motors and purchase the cars whole from a local dealer. 1987 Avantis were literally rebodied Monte Carlos and El Caminos.
