Vehicle Detail
This auction is for a 1972 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Convertible. This Mercury Cougar XR-7 Convertible comes with a clean California title. This item was a one owner California registered auto! It is truly a rare car and unrestored find! I just drove this car on a 300 mile trip doing speeds driving at 75 mph for most of the way with speed up to 100 mph and the car performed great! The car comes with the California Blue License Plates as shown! I have had 12 offers on this car and four of the offers have been between 10K and 10.5K. I need the money and I am confident this car will sell quickly. The introduction of the Cougar finally gave Mercury its own pony car. In its first year of production, the first generation Mercury Cougar was Motortrend magazine's Car of the Year for 1967. The 1967 Cougar was based on that year's refaced first-generation Mustang with a deliberate effort made to give the car a more "European" flavor. The Cougar continued to be a Mustang twin for seven years, and could be optioned as a genuine muscle car. Slotted between the Ford Mustang and the Ford Thunderbird, the Cougar would be the performance icon and eventually the icon for the Mercury name for several decades. A 1972 Mercury Cougar XR7 Convertible. The top of the line Cougar, this XR7 muscle car has hundred and fifty one unmolested cubic inches running smooth as a sewing machine under the hood, center console floor shifter, high backed bucket seats, power convertible top, this machine has it all with the added comforts such as A/C, power windows, power steering, and power brakes. It has been extremely well cared for and adult owned by one single individual, a testament to this cars reliability and the owner's satisfaction with it. The exterior of this Cougar is very straight and the original paint is still very nice and shines well. It has been garage kept the majority of its life. Because of this, the material for the top is still in very good shape, not brittle or cracked anywhere. All of the body lines are good; all of the doors, hood, trunk, and top open and shut properly. There is no visible rust anywhere on the exterior surfaces of this car. Inside this Cougar, you will find the same overall good condition. The carpet is neat and stain free, the seats are still very nice with only one very minor tear. The material is still soft and pliable so there will be no foreseeable issues with cracking. The dash has one small bubble in it but is otherwise in like new condition and the driver's door interior panel has a very small crack on the upper forward surface behind the rear view mirror. The mechanicals are all in top order but the air conditioning system could use a recharge. The system is functioning and intact, the compressor operates and switches on but the air is not as cold as it could be. The car starts, drives, handles, brakes, and steers as it should. There is no smoke or odd noises from the engine, and there are no rattles or other noises unusual coming from the suspension. There are no significant leaks although there is some visual evidence of seepage. All of the options and accessories function properly and there are no significant flaws, defects or blemishes anywhere to be found except for a non functioning horn and a loose driver's side door left rear window switch. Being a California car, there is no rust to speak of. The floors and trunk are all solid and the undercarriage is consistent with what you would find from a dry climate. There is very minimal surface rust on the frame and some of the fasteners. Other than that, this Cougar is solid and ready for the road. Finding such a well kept, functioning, original condition car, especially a muscle car, is difficult if not next to impossible as the years progress. If this is the one for you, don't let it get away. You'd be hard pressed to find another like this one.
