Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 Rare 1995 Porsche 968, very good condition, #231 of only 258 produced for US market. Known for their handling ability, the 968 is an amazingly fun car to drive especially on winding roads, through mountains and forests or along the coast (where I live) although slipping in and out of heavy traffic could even make Los Angeles freeways enjoyable (where I used to live). Approx 160,000 miles. 2-door coupe. 3.0L inline 4 (most powerful naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder engine ever sold in a production automobile up to that time) 236 + hp, 0-60 in under 6 seconds. 6-speed manual transmission. Leather interior, security system, all standard options including cruise control, power windows and mirrors. Selling the vehicle because the environment I now live in (at the ocean - no paved road to and from property etc) is not ideal for a performance vehicle and I also have less and less time to devout to maintaining the car in the way I always have. I'm a committed Porsche fan - this is my third and definitely my favorite. The condition of the body is very good and it has never been in an accident (I have the original carfax report from when I purchased it - I will happily include it). The paint is original factory and lovingly maintained (hand washed - cold water only - almost every time it came out of the garage and polished, waxed and detailed every six to eight weeks) but of course shows the usual pitting around the nose and mirrors you would expect from a car that's been driven at high speeds for sixteen years, and there's a small scuffed area just above the front license plate (I used to keep a Porsche bra on the front nose at all times and I discovered the mark after removing the bra for the cars polish and wax a couple of years ago - I will include the bra with the sale but I stopped using it because it showed it’s age) . Other than that there is one little ding on the hood and the plastic lower front spoiler shows the wear and tear of living in a rural area (no paved road to and from my home as mentioned above) but you have to crawl under the nose to notice. The interior is in excellent condition except for a tear in the driver’s seat (could be repaired with a leather patching kit) and has always been smoker free. No cracks in the dash. Carpets show only moderate wear as I always use Porsche carpet mats, which take all the abuse. Mats included in sale. Rear seat looks like it’s never been used. Passenger side electric window switch sometimes fails to operate (intermittent) but all other power accessories and controls work. Runs good although it’s been several years since it's had a computer tweeking (no longer living anywhere near a Porsche dealership) so I would say it's not really at peak performance; still faster and with better pick-up than most of what's out there. It's a performance vehicle so the more time and attention showed to it is reflected in increased performance, however it's currently running well enough that the majority of folks would never notice. It had a new timing belt and water pump installed Aug/Sept 2011 locally. Since the work performed the heater doesn't come on as fast or strong as it did before it went into that particular shop, so there's obviously a connection (pinched or obstructed heater hose?). Other issues would be; the rear hatch electric lock is noisy, but still works; A/C should be recharged (hasn’t been used in years); I have estimated mileage because the odometer stopped around 117,000 and as I never expected to sell the car I never bothered having it fixed - however I have all of the maintenance records since owning the vehicle and from doing the math (before odometer broke) you can clearly see that I average about 10,000 miles a year - I am a self employed artist/designer and I work out of my house so I don't have a commute anywhere. Making it easier to accurately estimate is the airbag service light goes off every 75000 miles and needs to be switched off by a dealer (the first time it came on I had it serviced in Southern California and all it entails is having the dealer note that the airbags haven't deployed and switching it off in the computer). Airbag service light came back on a year ago meaning I'd hit 150,000 miles and so I just added another ten for the estimate to be safe. Tires are almost new, brakes in fair condition although the parking brake could probably use some readjusting – on inclines you have to be sure to pull it all the way up for it to solely handle the car’s weight.
