Vehicle Detail
This car has been well-sorted and I have raced it with the Vintage Racing Club of BC for the last three years. It features the following: original BRE spec-motor prepared in 1969, twin Weber 45 DCOE carbs, wrapped BRE header, titanium valve spring retainers, Vinolia 13.5 to 1 compression pistons, ported and polished head, balanced crank, lightweight competition fan, 7 quart aluminum oil pan, competition oil cooler, Petronics ignition, Positrac 5:13 rear end, rebuilt 5sp. transmission, 14 inch Compomotive wheels with Yokohama Advan 185 60 14s, RCI aluminum gas tank, RCI race seat with current five-point harness, full roll cage by Specialty Engineering, Koni shocks, competition sway bar, Auto Meter Tachometer. Additional parts include: Nissan competition clutch, aluminum flywheel, complete carb jetting kit and 2 extra sets of chokes, completely rebuilt pair of SU carbs with manifold. There is also a set of 300ZX wheels, as seen in some of the earlier pictures, as well as some chrome Datsun 2000 badges, the old roll cage and assorted stuff. The original owner who built the car in the early 70s, told me that he raced it in C Prod. at Mid Ohio, Gratin and other tracks near Findlay Ohio. It had been sitting in dry storage for about 35 years, before I bought it 5 years ago, so I had it completely restored mechanically, totally replacing the brakes, fuel system including a new tank, exhaust from the header back, seat, roll cage and wheels. The motor was pulled out and dissasembled and the head studded back on. At the same time, the 5 speed transmission was rebuilt. When I realized what was in the motor, I decided to replace the SU carbs, which I had already rebuilt, with Webers. Most of the work was performed by Sports Imports, who specialize in Datsun Roadsters. They were very impressed with the car: how the motor was put together using helicoils, the fact that the steering box and front end parts were like new, and that the car was virtually rust free. The body and paint work (patina) are original, but simply replacing the BRE stripes and numbers, and touching up the paint would certainly transform the appearance. The car is once again competitive and reliable, I use only Pennzoil Performance Racing Oil. The motor temperature always runs at about 180 F, the oil pressure is about 160 and the compression is even across the cylinders. I shift at about 6500 RPM, but people who know these cars have told me that 7000 RPM would not be a problem for the U20 motor, they are built very rugged. Over the last 3 years, I have done 5 race weekends and 3 slaloms, or about 14 hrs in all. I think I have the jetting about right for Mission Raceway, which is a short track with 9 tight turns and with the 5:13 rear end, it is also an excellent slalom car. It sounds great, handles beautifully and is guaranteed to put a huge grin on your face! A tandem open trailer is also available. I am prepared to deliver up to 500 miles for the cost of my diesel fuel.
