Vehicle Detail
This 1989 325ix is in excellent shape with minimal rust. My business bought it originally to part it out, from an online insurance auction. Once it arrived it fired up right way after sitting at the auction for God knows how long. After I saw the condition and lack of rust I didn’t have it in me to part it out. The car did need some work to bring it to its current condition. The accident damage required replacing both right front/rear lower control arms/bushings, banging a dent in the passenger rear floor pan out (near the drain), and replacing 1 wheel. After that it was inspected by the state and given a rebuilt title. One of the pictures is from Copart showing the damage before it was repaired. I have more pics if you are interested. The work that has been done while in my care is as follows: the seat heating circuit repaired, replaced the front lip spoiler, and some bumper trim. I replaced the gears in the speedo and the batteries on the si board. Being that the odo had stopped the true mileage is unknown. The radio wasn’t hooked up so we installed a new in the box Alpine CDE125BT with the bluetooth mic near the driver visor. We also replaced the front speakers with a set NOS MB Quart components that sound fantastic. The fuel line cover was replaced and the rust under it was treated with rust encapsilator. We also used this product in the battery box area after it was thoroughly cleaned. Those are the only 2 areas of rust that concerned me. There is a small amount of rust on the inside of the front fenders that should be addressed at some point. The car does have some dents on it, nothing that a good PDR person shouldn’t be able to handle. All the body panels have the original VIN stickers on them. Using a paint gauge we can tell that the paint is mostly original on the body panels. We wet sanded the paint with 3000 grit and polished it back out. If I were keeping the car I would probably have it resprayed at some point. We did refinish the wheels bc the paint on them looked bad and the only replacement wheel I could get used was black. The car came with a box of parts in the trunk: there are couple of ecu’s, a fan motor, seat heated switches. The ones we haven’t put on will be included with the car. I have been driving the car for over a month while I waited for the paper work to come back from the state of GA. There are no driveablity issues at all with this car. It pulls hard and the shifts are crisp. The AC/heater fan isn’t working and one will be included with the car. All the windows work. The power antenna does not. There was a book in the glove box that has a service history starting on date 7/3/91. The last entry is on 5/16/04. Between these there are 51 other entries that include things like 2 timing belt replacements, “reconditioned cylinder head” 8/22/99, “new exhaust system including cat converter/ New transfer case” 8/2/01, fuel lines/ fuel pressure regulator 11/21/02. There are no receipts to verify any of this work but I have no reason to believe this meticulously written log isn’t genuine. I can tell that some items have been replaced by looking at the tool marks on the bolts and looking at the difference in road film on the parts like in the pic of the transfer case before the car was detailed. I’m guessing the entries stopped when the glove box handle broke off. (Which had to be drilled out and replaced) This is an amazing little car with a spotless original interior that will last for years and years with proper care. There is a spot on the dash that is cracked. IMO it looks like someone maybe didn’t have their seat belt on when they hit the curb that caused the accident damage. This is the information I have on this car I will try to answer any questions that you may have. Only bid if you intend on buying. Hello Guys Thanks for the patients on me getting these pictures together spring came about 3 months early and we have been slammed with the beautiful weather. First off a little info about me. I own a detail shop in Athens Ga. We have been open 7 yrs and have an excellent reputation for quality work and honesty. This is why we have continued to grow (into our 4th building) selling a luxury item in this economy. I love BMW's! My wife probably wishes old BMW's didn't follow me home but, sometimes they do. Because a detail shop is slow when it rains i keep a few BMW's around for my guys to work on when we don't have customer work. We finish and sell 1 or 2 a year depending on what they need and how busy we are. I've sold 5 in the last 3 years. When i fix them up i do them as if i were keeping them myself. I want the next owner to get maximum enjoyment out of them and love them like i do. This is the first one we haven't painted. I started selling the left over parts on ebay about a year ago. I bought this car because the only thing i was certain of from the pictures Copart posted is that the interior was perfect. I had to assume that the floor boards were rusted through and it wouldn't run well. However i knew one of my customers would be willing to pay good money for this perfect interior. Once the car arrived i was amazed at how well cared for it was. The more i looked at it the more impressed i was. I not easily impressed either. Once i got the glove box open i found the maintenance log that, has every time this car was touched for the next dozen or so years there is an entry. The more i read this log the more i thought about how well loved this car had been. I decided i would have to cancel my BMWCCA membership if i cut up this car. There wasn't any real body damage save the dent in the Lfender that i don't think happened when it was wrecked bc the dent had wax residue in it. I had a dent guy come take most of the dents out a couple of days ago. The only dents that didn't come out completely were ones he didn't have time for and the one on the fender because there is a support behind the dent. The paint also cracked when he worked on it.(see pic) There was a previous dent repair on the passenger front door that also couldn't be removed. He ran out of time to get the rest of them and if he gets back over my way i'll have him do the rest of them. We installed the stereo that is a left over from when we carried Alpine and the Quart components someone traded me because they wouldn't fit. Both these items are new and the boxes will be included with the sale. We ran new speaker wire and replaced the sun beaten OEM speakers in the rear deck with the ones that were in the front. I took the opportunity to run RCA's and a remote wire to the trunk. While i had the dash apart i did the OBC conversion bc the clock wasn't working anyway. The OBC display needs a blub but it works. If the winner wishes I would be willing to do a sub and an amp. I could also install keyless entry or Smart start, of course for an additional cost. I have nothing to hide and know that this will make someone a great car. One guy wants me to test the viscous coupler and told me the procedure. I am going to do that this weekend and post his question and the results of the test on the listing. If any of you are close to Athens feel free to come by and take it for a drive. Let me know if there is anything you want to know or see. Andy Blankenship Classic City Detail
