Vehicle Detail
I have a 1976 Mercedes 450sl convertible for sale. I bought this car back in August and drove it to Memphis from a few hours away with no problems except for the fact that it needs an alignment and the cruise control surges on the highway. I bought it as a project to work on and drive on the weekends due to the cosmetic damage it had. However, as I attempted to find the necessary parts to get the lights fully operational and replace the rusty driver's side front fender, the car sat and began to have problems starting. I did as much research as I could to figure out the problem. I replaced the fuel pump assembly and ended up breaking a metal fuel line.....that's about where I stopped. The car started every time I turned the key when I got it. Recently, I've only been able to get it running about once a week. I attempted to fix the fuel line, but it is leaking. At this point, I'm beginning to lose interest, but I want to give someone else a chance to do something with it before I look into scrapping it. The following parts have been replaced since August: Driver's side front fenderCenter muffler (I have a brand new rear muffler as well)Fuel pump, filter, and accumulator, along with hoses and fuel tank strainerWarm up regulatorIgnition coilSpark plugs and wiresDistributor cap and rotorThermostat and housingBlower motor (used)Cold start valve (used)Steering wheel (used)The tires are pretty new It needs: Fuel line repair Body work (rust spots on rear fenders, floor panels of trunk, and driver's side floor pan)PaintThe a/c compressor is frozenMinor interior workProbably a new battery The car may or may not start, but it definitely cannot be driven right now and would have to be towed. There is a set of new plastic windows for the navy blue soft top in the trunk. I really do believe that this car could be a worthwhile project for someone, but I just don't have the patience or knowledge to continue with it myself.
