Vehicle Detail

I am selling my 1988 Honda Civic DX Hatchback, aka "Gerald" as we call him, to a good home. So, Gerald has 237,000 miles on him, just broken in, and has a 5-speed manual transmission. There is no power steering, he came like that stock. That's the way I like it. Amazing cargo space on the inside, as I'm sure you know, both seats drop down flat. Bought him last March for the fuel savings, and I have been taking great care of him thinking I was in it for the long haul, but we just decided to move to FL a month ago. Changed the oil every 3,000 - 3,300 miles. We did drive him to Florida and back in July for a little vaycay, (which only cost me $263 in gas, round trip!) and I would not hesitate to do so again. NEW STUFF: Clutch, Clutch Cable, Alternator, Starter, Air Intake, O2 Sensor, Fuel Filter, great tires with 8,000 miles on them that have been rotated once, and they have a 40,000 mile transferable gaurentee if you keep up rotations, Spare Tire, Battery, Total Alignment, Rear & Front Wipers, Hydraulic Arms for hatch, CD player with iPod jack, Repair Manual, and super nice heavy duty front Floor Matts. GOOD STUFF: Better than amature work on "Honda rust" rear wheel wells (though I intended to do the finishing, never got around to due to the cold), -Mud Flaps, Rear Seats and Original Cargo Cover- (these are only new to Gerald, as I ordered them off of eBay), the water pump and timing belt were done in the last two years (my mechanic was going to do these parts for me also, but when he got in there he said they were perfect). Header instead of exhaust manifold. He is super clean and fun to drive. Nice, tight gearbox. Nice dash. I broke the interior temperature turning knob thingy, so it is stuck dead center of blue and red / hot and cold. The front seats are trashed. This didn't bother me, I just bought some silver and black seat covers. The driver's seat is stuck where it is on the track. Needs to be WD-40'd. It's stuck at my height, so I never bothered to fix it. The engine tempature gage in the dash stopped reading last month, I checked yesterday, and the little loop clamp that connects the gage to the engine is missing>>> My mechanic accidently broke it off opening the engine to check the timing belt and didn't realize it. It's a small piece, looks like an easy order, and an easy fix. The whole undercarrige has rust. Any of these cars near snow and salt have this issue. He blows some black smoke. Any of these cars this old have this issue. Just recently, Gerald has been doing a sort of "coughing" when I accelerate at an incline in 5th once I hit 65ish. (This hasn't detured me from driving him, I have still gone to RI and Boston once a week for a month with him like this.) I looked into "trouble shooting" in the book, and it says that it might be a number of things like bad fuel injector, some sort of vaccuum leak, exhaust problems, etc. MATINENCE: I have been putting Marvel fuel treatment in the tank, and Lucas Oil in the engine, both once a month. Then, Gerald likes a little drink of brake fluid every two months, and a top off of oil, 5-W30, every 1500 miles. He is my only car and my daily driver. It's so much fun when people look at the car and smile! This car is awesome stock, or could be modified for any speed addict who's looking for a project! 45+MPG. He has paid for himself in gas in the time that I have had him. Thank you so much for taking the time to look at this listing!
