Vehicle Detail
NO RESERVE 1983 Mercedes Benz Turbo Diesel. THIS CAR HAS A BAD TRANSMISSION. So I am offering it for repair or restoration. Actually it is in good shape for its age the seats are in really nice condition and the diesel engine starts right up. This car was a daily driver for my teenager before the transmission failed. It is nice enough in my opinion that i don't want to part it out. The windows work and the AC Works. It is not rusty as far as i can see and it has good tires on it and newer brakes and a new alternator (last month). I have had a mechanic replace the timing chain about 9 months ago as they require replacement every 200K on this car so that is one large expense you wont have to pay. It has Alloy wheels and larger tires but the original spare looks almost unused Things that I know are defective on the car: 1. Transmission slips in forward but works in reverse. Once it gets to 20MPH or so it will drive in all gears (you cannot drive it home) 2. It has vacuum leaks so the power locks do not work (power brakes are good and the engine shuts off fine) 3. The California sun has not been kind to the paint (it is really faded and the clear coat is flaking off) 4. It has a bunch of hi end stereo stuff (CD Changer, amp, ect) that appears to be disconnected. But the dash stereo plays 5. Dash has a few cracks but there is a nice cover on it. 6. small crack in front window but it is not growing and is about 2" or less long so it should be fixable. These cars are popular here in California as they can be converted to run on used fryer grease from you local restaurant. I am not able to ship this car myself so if you want it you will have to ship it or tow it home Keep in mind that this is an old car and has been driven for 391K miles IT IS NOT PERFECT. On Jan-05-12 at 22:13:50 PST, seller added the following information:Hi, I have been receiving many questions about driving the car home and I wanted to make sure everyone had the information. This car has a bad transmission. I am not a mechanic but one of my friends told me it is probably the front pump. when you try to start out in drive it will creep forward very slowly until it gets moving then it seems to hook up and drive at highway speeds but it takes so long to get it to the speed where it hooks up that you would surely cause an accident or be stopped by the police so i recommended that you do not try to drive it home. If you buy it you can do what you want but you will probably be stuck a stoplight and unable to drive it away, especially if you are taking off up hill
