This is a very nice 2+2 convertible that was manufactured by Fiat from 1966 to 1979. It made its first appearance at the November 1966 Turin Auto Show. This car was designed and manufactured by Italian carrozzeria Pininfarina. The engine used in the Spider is a double overhead cam, aluminum cross flow head version of the sedan's pushrod unit. It has a capacity of 1756 cc and retains its Weber carburetor and makes 116 Horsepower.We have serviced this car and did a compression test that reveals:#1120Psi#2105Psi#3115Psi#4115PsiThis particular Spider is a great starting point for someone wanting an inexpensive Italian Convertible. It is a shame as most serious Italian car enthusiasts overlook these wonderful micro cars. You can forget the old “fix it again Tony” jokes – this old Spider is cosmetically challenged…. But is mechanically impressive. The Paint on this particular example shines, but does have several noted issues. Both rear quarters show evidence of red primer and some possible rust repair that appears to be holding up well. There are some issues at the bottoms of the rockers and you can see some rust starting to bubble in both rear quarters. Evidently rust proofing was not on the design agenda that day at Pininfarina. The poor paint still reveals the sexy lines that look as good today as when it hit the market back in 1966. This car does show its age in spots, like the plastic glove box door. It works… but it is a bit wonky. Overall the presentation is solid. A new set of tires and a quick quality repaint should be the only thing that you need to do to this little Italian sports car. You could just enjoy it the way it is as well. The car gets lots of looks when out tooling around town. Underhood there are many newish parts, like a cap, rotor, radiator, cast exhaust manifold and more. Up top there are new seat covers and carpets. This car’s seats were recovered with soft fabric inserts on the seating faces, and are a real advantage during sporting driving. The seats are also quite comfortable, and the interior is surprisingly spacious for an Italian sports car. There is no radio.The wipers wipe – albeit slowly.The headlights light.The blower motor blow.The blend door controls in the center console direct air where it should be directed.The body is in fair condition with some dents, dings and scratches. There is also some surface rust in places. All the glass is in good condition with no cracks or chips.The twin cam inline-four under the hood delivers entertaining performance, especially given the car’s light weight. The fun does not come in the form of huge power. But speed and stylish cruising at 90% through the twisties will reward the patient driver without endangering anyone else. The top is newer and is in good condition, clear rear window; it is a canvas top with integrated plastic window more expensive than the vinyl tops. It also has a boot cover for the top.These cars also make nice vintage racers. They are known for their nimble handling and predictable attitude mid corner.
