Vehicle Detail

This 1955 Ford Country Squire Station Wagon is a rare find. In its time, post WW2 era, it was the popular civilian troop carrier with its plank siding and roomy 8 passenger seating arrangement. It was built to take on the newly constructed suburbs of America, mud, rough roads and all. The Country Squire was the premium edition of Ford’s Station Wagon line and in 1955 it was modeled after the Ford Fairlane. This wagon carries the original Ford 272 motor which has just been rebuilt and bored 20 over with updated pistons and valves to effectively burn todays fuel. The fuel pump and vacuum pump for windshield wipers has also been updated. Options on the wagon included a 3 speed manual transmission with overdrive. The overdrive cable and overdrive accelerator shut off switch on this wagon are brand new. Also of note, under the hood are 3 different stamps from the factory, 2 regard the paint and one is the date of June 8 1955. The aluminized dual exhaust is new from engine all the way back. The Country Squire featured 3 row seating which include a fold down 3rd seat. These seats are in nice shape and do not have any rips or tears. They have not been professionally cleaned since I’ve owned it and I’ve become accustom to a stain on the drivers seat toward the center. I don’t know what it is and have not spent time trying to remove it. There are 3 seatbelts for the front seat although the photo does not show them. The new headliner is another addition I made to the wagon. The flooring is the original vinyl and it does show its age. All glass is in nice shape, windows slide and roll down easily. All the accessories seem to be in working order except for the radio. I haven’t given it much attention so I don’t know if it’s a fuse or the radio itself. I’ve installed a rare vintage luggage rack and surfboard as well as the many neat vintage stickers that give this Woody a well-traveled look. The chrome is in nice shape and I have replaced the hood ornament with a brand new one. The paint is the original Pine Tree Green (79c on the trim tag) with turquoise trim (AL on trim tag). The original Durafibe faux wood finish is planked and finished in the factory mahogany tone. The wagons paint is about 20 years old and has a beautiful patina to it. The laminate is in original condition and still shows its original Durafibe stamp. The paint has a nice luster however there are some small rust areas on the lower part of the front fenders that will need attention before it sees paint again. There is also small cracking from an old filler repair in the same area. The rear quarter behind the drivers wheel well has had at some point a patch panel installed. The body and paint are still quite appealing and urgency of repairs would vary from one person to the next. I would drive this wagon another five years before worrying about painting it. Of course I do keep it in my garage. This wagon had been stored for the better part of 40 years prior to my having it. The tires are original style 15 inch bias ply. They are old but have at least 80 percent tread left on them. There is also a spare in the tire compartment under rear seat. An example of this 1955 model wagon is featured on the Smithsonian National Museum of American History website in the same color and trim code as mine. These wagons are extremely hard to find! I visited many shows this year and have seen only one other 1955 Ford Country Squire. This is a very nice example of the 55 Country Squire. I cannot take it anywhere without making time to talk to the people who stop me wanting to take a picture or ask me about it. I am always happy to oblige! The odometer reads 59992, true mileage is unknown. The title is mileage exempt. This title is clear and in hand. I am happy to answer any questions that you may have via phone or email.
