Vehicle Detail
Here is a nice Original and Highly Optioned 1961 Galaxie Club Victoria 2 Door Hardtop with its Original 352 Cubic Inch FE Big Block Engine and 3 Speed Manual Transmission. This 1961 Galaxie Victoria Hardtop was sold New at Stovall Ford in Denver Colorado back in the Summer of 1961 and the Galaxie would spend many years in Colorado with its Original Owner. The 1961 Galaxie was eventually sold to its second owner in the late 70's and the car headed West to Arizona where it would spend the next 30 years in Arizona's beautiful dry climate. This 1961 Galaxie Victoria 2 Door Hardtop is a very solid Original car with all of its Original sheet metal and very little rust which is typical of cars from Colorado where the roads are not salted and Arizona's dry climate helps to keep these cars from having rust issues. I purchased this Galaxie 2 years ago from a Ford collector in Tombstone Arizona and this gentleman was a serious Ford guy who loved his full size Ford's as well as his Ford powered Hot Rods. The previous owner told me that he was down-sizing a bit after collecting for many years and he is well into his 70's so he felt it was time to let a few of his cars go to new homes. I was happy to get the opportunity to buy such a solid 1961 Galaxie and even happier to find one that was Big Block Powered with some very cool factory options. Just finding a good 61 can be a challenge as I remember seeing 61's back in the 70's that were already in need of serious rust repair. I live in Pennsylvania so finding solid Original 50 year old cars is nearly impossible so I jumped at the opportunity to own such a solid and interesting 61 Ford! If your into the 1961 Ford's then you know that these cars were prone to serious rust issues but that is not the case with this unusually optioned 1961 Galaxie. This car is as solid as the day is long and you would be hard pressed to find a more solid original 1961 Galaxie. This 1961 Galaxie is not only a nice solid Original car but also a very unsual car with a nice combination of comfort options as well as being powered by Ford's dependable and powerful 352 cubic inch big block engine. This Galaxie is optioned with Power Steering, Power Brakes, Ice Cold Air Conditioning, Power Windows, 4 Way Power Bench Seat, Seat Belts, Drivers Side Door Mounted Rearview Mirror, In Dash Clock and Optional Reverse Light Package..... all of these Cool Options including the 352 Big Block Engine and yet this Galaxie's Original Owner did not order an Automatic Transmission nor did he opt for the basic AM Radio..... thats right guys, all of these Cool Power Options and yet this Galaxie Victoria Hardtop has the 3 Speed Manual Transmission and the Original Radio Delete Plate is still in the Dash and in case you didnt notice, the car has the base Dog Dish Hubcaps as well. Talk about an interesting 61 Galaxie!!!!! This is defintely an interesting old Galaxie and if you like the 61's as I do then you know that Power Windows, 4 Way Power Bench Seat and Air Conditioning are quite unusual options for the 61 Galaxie's. This 1961 Galaxie Victoria Club Coupe or Victoria 2 Door Hardtop has what I believe to be its Original 352 Cubic Inch Engine and it runs beautifully. This car can be sitting for several months and I just pump the pedal a few times and turn the key and it always roars to life with no unusual noises and no known mechanical problems. The engine runs great! The engine was completely serviced and tuned 3 years ago with a carburetor rebuild, all new tune up parts and a conversion from the old generator to a more modern alternator. This makes things much easier should you find yourself in need of a replacement alternator as parts like this are still readily available at your local auto parts store. Another benefit of the alternator is that you get maximum voltage output at lower rpm's which helps with the many factory power accessories in this car. Keep in mind that this Galaxie is equipped with Power Windows, Power 4 Way Bench Seat and Air Conditioning which can put quite a strain a cars electrical components and the modern alternator works much better at powering all of these accessories while keeping your battery charging more efficiently. The Radiator was serviced at the same time that the engine was serviced and the original expansion Tank was repaired and pressure tested to insure good cooling. The Transmission is the 3 Speed Column shifted Manual and it works perfectly with no problems and no unusual noises..... shifts are nice and smooth through the gears. The clutch seems to be in good shape with no unusual chatter or slippage and the clutch pedal feels just right.... not too much strain on the old left foot like some of the heavy duty clutch and pressure plates that I've had in some of my other cars over the years. The previous owner had the Gear Oil changed in the Transmission and the gear oil changed in the Original 9" rear so there are no known issues with the transmission or the rearend which has its original 3.56 gears and there are no unusual noises with the transmission or the rear. The Original Power Brakes work just fine and the car has a nice high and firm brake pedal. This brakes will bring this 1961 Galaxie to a stop with little effort and there are no problems with the brakes pulling hard to one side or the other. I was told that the brakes were completely gone over just before I bought the car nearly 2 years ago and I have no reason to believe otherwise as the brakes work great and it was obvious that the Power Brake Booster and Master Cylinder had been rebuilt. The Power Steering makes for easy driving and no fighting with the steering wheel to get you into your garage or into a parking spot. The frontend feels nice and tight and with just 81,600 miles showing on the odometer, I would think that many of the original suspension parts are still on the car although I cant say for sure. What I can say is that the car drives nicely around town with no unusual issues and with modern Radial tires the car drives very nice on the highway at 55-60mph and is a pleasure for cruising. When I bought this car I was told that the miles showing on the odometer are Original and according to the title the mileage is correct but with a 51 year old car it would be impossible to say for sure whether the mileage is correct. There are many things which lead me to believe that the mileage is correct such as having the Original Factory Gaskets stapled to the Valve Covers which was only done at the Ford Assembly Plants. Then there is the way that the car runs and drives which leads me to believe that the 81,600 miles are correct. The Original 352 Big Block runs very well and still makes plenty of power.... combine this with the original 3 Speed Manual Transmission and the 3.56 rear gear ratio and this 1961 Galaxie Hardtop is a whole lotta of fun to drive. It really scoots along nicely with this combination. There are some other cool things which I found in the Glovebox like the Original Tags that hung from the Dash for the Air Conditioning and the Tag that Hung from the Fast Idle Control Handle which is mounted under the Dash. These are pretty cool original Tags which have little pieces of wire attached to them so they could be easily attached to the Air Conditioning Unit and the Fast Idle Control Handle. The Fast Idle Control Knob is still in place under the Dash and seems to work fine. This was a great piece to have in any car equipped with a Manual Transmission and Air Conditioning as it brought up the Idle which was crucial in Air Conditoned cars because of the strain that Air Conditioning put on your engines Idle with the Air Conditioning operating. This not only brought your Idle up to higher RPM's but also kept your engines operating temperature lower as well as improving your Air Conditionings overall performance. This 1961 Galaxie 2 Door Hardtop is a very Original car that runs great and drives quite nicely and it has ICE COLD Air Conditioning along with many other cool options. Its as solid as a rock and is a great old car!!! The body on this 1961 Galaxie Victoria Hardtop is exceptionally solid as you would expect from a car that spent most of its life in Colorado and Arizona. You gotta love the cool Tail Fins on the 1961 Galaxie's. These cars have a truly unique look and are completely different than any other car produced for the 1961 Model year. The 1961 Galaxie's were extremely popular cars back when they were new and seem to have a fairly loyal following after 50+ years. I have always loved the cool subtle Quarter Panel Fins on the 1961 Galaxie's....... they are not as large and they dont stand quite as high like the late 50's cars but they have a look all their own and its one of my favorite things about the 61's....just straight up COOL!!!! The 1961 Galaxie shown in this auction is a wonderful Original Victoria 2 Door Hardtop that's seen little in the way of changes over the last 51 years and the body is an exceptionally solid original example. This car has super solid original floors, trunk floor, quarter panels, fenders, doors, trunk lid, frame, etc etc. This is a truly solid original car that would look awesome with a fresh coat of the Factory Desert Gold(Yellow) Paint. The only rust that I was able to find is a small area on each front fender which can only be seen when you open the hood as they are located along the inner part of each fender where the hood closes over the fenders. Im guessing that this was a spot where moisture would lay when the car got wet or where dirt or leaves my gather and hold moisture. These spots are minor and are not by any means a problem. There is a very small spot of surface rust on the drivers side rear quarter panel just behind the wheel at the edge of the washboard molding.... this is very minor and Im talking super minor guys..... just want to tell you as much as possible. The bottom rear corner of the passenger side door has a very minor spot of surface rust and again, this id extremely minor stuff but I try to mention everything that I see. I have not been able to find any other rust issues on this 1961 Galaxie and I see no problems with the body outside of a couple of minor dents which you can probably see in the photos.... none require any major repair and absolutely no panel replacement is necessary. This car has an exceptionally nice unrestored original body with what appears to be one older repaint in its original Code "F" Desert Gold Paint which is actually a Yellow as you can see but Ford like most auto manufacturers gave their paint colors fancy names to make them sound a little cooler. Desert Gold definitely sounds more exotic than plain old Yellow. The car still shows its clean Original Paint in the Door Jambs and in the Trunk and by looking in the Door Jambs, you can imagine just how nice this Desert Gold Paint must look when its fresh. The paint in the Door Jambs not only looks nice but the original door latches and strikers have a clean original finish. Its stuff like this that tells me so much about a car and the type of care it received over the years. The Trim on this car is better than average with nice original lower quarter panel Washboards and most of the side trim is nice although there are a couple of pieces that have a few dings or a scrape. The Rear Bumper was rechromed a few years ago and looks very nice as does the Original Rear Panel Trim which mounts below the Trunk Lid and between the Taillights. This Trim is one of the things that I really like about the 61's along with the lower quarter Washboard trim..... just super cool pieces that give these cars a very unique look. The Front Bumper appears to be nice and straight and is fine for any driver with a good shine but would need to be rechromed to make it show quality. The Grill and Headlamp Bezels look to be original and in good unrestored condition and I see no major issues with these pieces outside of a few little dings on the Hood trim and a few dings on the pasenger side Outer Headlight bezel. The Roof Belt Moldings which mount on the top of the Quarter Panels just behind the smaller quarter glass windows and between the rear glass look to be very nice and these are very difficult to find in nice original condition. The cool little emblems that mount on the Roof Pillar above the belt moldings which are shaped like a Star with the Gold Colored inserts are in good original condition with fairly nice original chrome. The exterior Door Handles look nice for 51 year old originals and still have a good shine and work perfectly. The Doors open and close nicely and they still lock and unlock properly with the keys unlike many older cars. The undercarriage on this 1961 Galaxie Victoria 2 Door Hardtop is good and solid and very original with no issues with the frame, floors or body mounts. The frame is nice and solid with no signs of any problems or repairs. The original body mounts appear to be nice and solid as are the original rocker panels and floor pans. The Glass in the car appears to be in good original condition although there is a small chip in the windshield from being driven and it has not changed any in the last 2 years so I wouldnt worry too much about it unless it bothers you. Its just a small chip from a stone or something and has not changed at all since Ive owned the car. The rear and side glass are the date coded originals and look to be in very good original condition. The window trim front and rear appears to be in nice original condition and I dont believe they have ever been off of the car. Overall I would say that this is a super solid original 1961 Galaxie with nice original body panels that would take very little to get it ready for a repaint or you could always drive the car just the way she sits but I believe that the car is worthy of a repaint and with the interior already done, the new paint would really make this a super nice car. This 1961 Galaxie is a great car to freshen with a fresh coat of the original Desert Gold Paint and make some improvements as your time and finances permit or you could always slam it to the ground and make it a cool Custom if thats what your into. I prefer original cars but thats just me..... these Finned late 50's and early 60's cars seem to be quite popular among the Custom Car and Low Rider guys and this 1961 Galaxie with its Cool Rear Fins certainly make it a great basis for just about any type of restoration, restification or Full Blown Custom. The Interior in this 1961 Galaxie is very nice and was restored with all of the correct NOS Original materials ordered through SMS Auto Interiors out of Utah. The Seats were stripped down and new padding was installed along with the correctly restored Seat Covers, Door Panels, Headliner, Rear Package Tray and Carpets.... all are beautifully done. The cost to do the interior in this 1961 Galaxie was in excess of $4800. The Interior is quite nice and very comfortable and still retains all of its Original Dash components including the factory original Radio Delete Plate. All of the Original Knobs for the Headlights, Windshield Wipers, Fresh Air Vents, Cigarette Heater Controls are all intact and in good original condition. The Original Clock is still in the Dash although like most Clocks of the era, it works intermitently. All of the Original Power Windows switches are still intact and in good condition with the front windows working nicely although the smaller rear quarter windows should have the switches cleaned up as they are not currently operating properly. The car is also equipped with the Original Ford under Dash Air Conditioning Unit which not only looks beautiful with gorgeous Original Chrome but it blows absolutely Ice Cold!!! The Air Conditioning was completely gone over 2 years ago and a new Sanden Air Conditioning Compressor was installed along with New Air Conditioning Lines and the system was updated with the new R134 Refrigerant. Im telling you guys the Air Conditioning in this 1961 Galaxie is by far the coldest Air Conditioning that I have ever had in any car and that includes my new vehicle. Its just outright ICE COLD!!!!! The Seats looks wonderful with the Fresh Nicely done Original materials which consist of Tan colored Vinyl with beautiful Brown Cloth inserts with Silver and Gold colored flecks along with the Silver piping..... just a beautiful job on the seats and wonderful original style interiors like this are a thing of the past! The Door Panels are done with the same NOS Cloth and Vinyl Materials with the original Silver/Mylar inserts which really make the interior look very rich in my opinion. The Carpets are done in the correct pile and fit nicely while the NOS Headliner is White and really looks outstanding against the original Cloth and Vinyl Seat Covers and Door Panels. I have seen many new Headliners in cars over the years and they are often loose or just dont fit properly but that is not the case with this Galaxie. The Headliner is gorgeous in the white with the original Dome Light looking quite nice and working just as it should by either opening the doors or by using the Dash mounted headlight switch.... amazing for a 51 year old vehicle. The Original Dash looks nice and clean and is 100% complete with all original Instrument Cluster with working Speedometer and Odometer.... even the original Gas Gauge works properly which is another thing that rarely works on these older cars. The Instrument Cluster has a nice look as do all of the original Knobs and Switches and the Windshield Wipers and Lights work as they should. The Turn Signals work and the front running lights, Parking lights, Headlights, Taillights, Brake Lights and even the Dash Lights still work as they should. The Horn works properly from the original Horn Ring and is quite loud when compared to most of the horns in todays modern cars. The Original Light over the License Plate works properly as do the Taillights and Brake Lights. The Turn Signals work as they should and Cancel properly when the steering wheel is returned from either a Left or Right turn. The Air Conditiong Unit is beautiful with gorgeous Original Chrome and all of the Original Switches and Vents on the AC Unit work perfectly. The Steering wheel is the original and shows its age from being in Arizona for many years but still serves its purpose and would be a great piece to either restore or just use it as it is for your weekend cruiser. There are other little things on the interior of this car that are in excellent original condition like the heavy Chrome Trim that mounts at the Rear Lower Corners of the Headliner right at the Rear Package Tray. These pieces look wonderful and are a testament of the cars overall condition and the care that it received over the last 50 years. If you like nice Original High Option 1961 Ford Galaxie Victoria Hardtops or any early Vintage Ford product then you will surely appreciate this cool finned beauty. The Trunk in this car is the Factory Original Trunk Pan and its nice and solid as is the rest of the car. The Trunk still has its Original Jack which is complete and held in place with all of its Original Hardware. The Jack sits atop the Original Desert Gold(Yellow) Steel wheel and the Original 8.25-14 Spare Tire which still has the Original decal on the tire. The Original Paint on the Inner wheel houses found in the Trunk still looks quite nice and the Original Trunk Mat and Original Inner Quarter Panel Trunk Drop-Off Cardboard Inserts are still in place and in excellent original condition. The Original Jacking Instructions are still in place on the underside of the Trunk Lid. I could go on and on about the originality of this car but I will leave it alone and let the pictures and the description speak for themselves. Overall this is a very solid and extremely Original 1961 Galaxie Victoria 2 Door Hardtop that runs great and drives very well. The engines starts and runs beautifully and the engine still makes plenty of power. The Air Conditioning blows absolutely ICE COLD and is by far the best Air Conditioning that Ive ever had in any car let alone a Classic car. This car has some very cool options and as I said earlier, absolutely everything in this car works as it should except for the Clock and the 2 back power windows. The Body and Trim are good original.... not perfect but still very good original and there are few 1961 Galaxie's left in unrestored original condition that are as clean and solid as this old car. The perfect basis for a freshening or some cosmetic restoration. The interior has already been restored with all of the correct NOS Material and looks wonderful. As I mentioned earlier, there was nearly $5,000 spent doing the interior alone and the only reason that the interior needed to be restored was because of the harsh affects of the Arizona sun. If your looking for a nice clean solid Original 1961 Galaxie 2 Door Hardtop thats already had a lot of the expensive work done then look no further. This one is a good one for many reasons from the very Rare Options to the Optional 352 Big Block FE engine and the 3 Speed Manual Transmission and the 3.56 geared 9" Rearend but most of all because of the super solid foundation of this car. Its just rock solid all the way around. THANKS AGAIN... TONY ABOVE: HERE IS THE 1961 GALAXIE IN ARIZONA BEFORE IT WAS SHIPPED TO ME 2 YEARS AGO! ABOVE: ORIGINAL AIR CONDITIONING OPERATION TAG AND THE FAST IDLE CONTROL TAG WHICH WERE FOUND IN THE GLOVEBOX OF THE 1961 GALAXIE. THE AC WORKS BETTER THAN NEW AND THE ORIGINAL FAST IDLE HANDLE IS MOUNTED UNDER THE DASH TO THE LEFT OF THE AIR CONDITIONING AND WORKS ALSO... THESE ARE COOL ORIGINAL PIECES THAT WERE LIKELY TOSSED BY MOST NEW FORD OWNERS SHORTLY AFTER THE PURCHASE OF THEIR NEW CAR. ABOVE: NEW MODERN SANDEN AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR ALONG WITH NEW AC LINES AND A COMPLETE SERVICING OF THE ENTIRE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM WITH A CONVERSION TO NEW R-134 REFRIGERANT MAKES THIS THE COLDEST AIR CONDITIONING THAT I HAVE EVER HAD IN ANY CAR AND THAT GOES FOR MY NEW CAR.... THIS 61 GALAXIE HAS AWESOME ICE COLD AIR AND THE ENGINE RUNS NICE AND COOL EVEN ON THE HOTTEST SUMMER DAY WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING BLASTING ON HIGH!!!! On Dec-07-11 at 17:59:55 PST, seller added the following information: I just wanted to add a little more information about the 1961 Galaxie Hardtop so you guys can have as much information as possible before bidding. The 1961 Galaxie runs great and the car fires up with a turn of the key and goes right to high speed idle.... kind of cool that the choke is still operating perfectly. The engine runs nice and smooth and when your looking at the engine while its running, you wouldnt know it was running by looking... its just very smooth. The car actually runs quite strong with the 352 Big Block combined with the 3 Speed Manual and the 3.56 geared 9" rearend and will quickly get you up to highway speeds even in this rather large 2 Door Hardtop. As I mentioned earlier, the body is extremely solid for an original 51 year old car. There is very little rust and a few minor dents but nothing that is a big deal..... no panels need replaced and overall, the car is quite straight. The car was repainted one time and that was many years ago. It shines up and will hold a shine if you keep the car inside your garage. The only issues beside the older paint is a spot on the hood which was primer in the center.. again its no big deal as you will probably repaint this car at some time but its by no means an eyesore as you can see in the pictures. Mechanically I know of nothing expect for a leak in the power steering and Im sure there are a few other minor things that you'll want to do as with any 50+ year old car. One of the cool things about this car is the very unusual color combination along with the wonderful factory options which Im told are quite rare on this 1961 Galaxie. The car has a very nice correctly restored interior with Beautiful Correct Cloth and Vinyl Seat Covers, Beautiful Correctly Restored Door Panels, Beautiful NOS White Headliner, Beautiful Correct Rear Package Tray, New Correct Style Carpets, New Windlacing, Beautiful Kick Panels, Nice Original Dash with the Original Radio Delete Plate and all of the Correct Original Knobs and Switches..... all of the Dash Lights work including the Lights for the Heater Controls,,, Speedometer, Odometer, Gas Gauge, Temperature Gauge are all in Good Working Order... The Headlights and High Beams-Low Beams work properly... Turn Signals work and properly Cancel on both sides... the Parking Lights work perfectly as do the Taillights, License Plate Light, Rear Taillights and the Brake Lights all work properly! The Air Conditioning is excellent and will literally freeze you out even on the hottest of Summer days. The Air Conditioning Compressor, AC LInes and the entire system was gone over and works as good or better than any car that I've ever owned. The Brakes have a nice firm Brake Pedal and the car stops quite well with the brakes gone over less than 3 years ago. The trim on the car is original and the Rear Bumper was rechromed a couple of years ago and looks great while the front Bumper is nice and straight and is fine for any driver although I would rechrome it if I was going to repaint the car. The side trim has some dings and scrapes on the passenger side but all can either be restored or replaced depending on what you'd like to do with the car. The car is just very Original and is a good running and driving 1961 Galaxie. The Nice thing about this car is that a ton of money was already spent on the Beautifully Restored interior, rechromed back bumper, Air Conditioning and the fluids were all changed from the Transmission gear oil to the gear oil in the rear.... the car was tuned up and the carburetor was rebuilt....brakes gone over, new Fuel Pump installed and many other little things were done including the conversion from the old generator to the newer style Alternator which is a huge improvement for the cars electrical units and charging. Basically, this is an Original 1961 with 81,000 Miles that runs and drives nicely with a beautfiul Original body thats as solid as a rock and the car is equipped with many cool and rare options. This would be an awesome car with a fresh paint job and a few more cosmetic improvements would be a nice addition.....like any older car Im sure you will find some things that you would like to improve upon and personalize to make the car your own whether that be a cool set of Vintage Wheels or a Custom Stereo System.... whatever you like to make it yours!!!! Thanks again for your interest as well as your bids and feel free to call me anytime with questions or concerns. Tony 215-499-2693 Keep in mind that I reserve the right to end this auction at anytime and for any reason without notice. Thanks again for looking over this rather long auction and all the best to your families in the coming holiday season! Tony 215-499-2693 Keep in mind that I can help with all transport arrangements! On Dec-10-11 at 19:59:50 PST, seller added the following information: This will be my last revision to the auction for my 1961 Galaxie Victoria 2 Door Hardtop. This is a good running car with an exceptionally solid Original body. When I was in search of a "good" 1961 Galaxie, the most important thing to me was to find a car with nice solid Original sheet metal and thats what I have with this Yellow 61. I grew up in Pennsylvania and we salt the roads heavily here in the Winter so I have seen my share of rusty cars over the years. I know the difference when it comes to good solid Original cars and a rust bucket! THIS IS A GOOD SOLID CAR! This car spent most of its life out West so it is extremely solid and as I said, this was the most important thing to me. I didnt want to have to repair a rusty car so I spent my time looking for a real solid car and along came this unusual 1961 Galaxie Hardtop. This car has a lot going for it from its nice solid original body to the freshly restored correct style interior which in itself was a small fortune. Sure I could have found a car that was a little closer to Pennsylvania but I was not able to find a solid 61 Galaxie with a Factory Big Block with a Freshly restored interior and many rare options so I stepped up and spent the money for this car and had it shipped from Tombstone Arizona! This car is by no means a perfect car but its a very good original car that runs great and drives very nice! The Body is Super Solid with a few minor bumps and bruises but it is SOLID....nice Original Floors, Beautiful Original Frame, Nice body mounts and a good solid car overall! The Paint is Old... probably repainted once back in the late 70's or early 80's if I had to guess and although it does shine, it has its share of nicks, scratches, minor bumps and bruises and there is a spot in the center part of the hood which has some primer. The car will eventually need to be repainted although its a cool looking car just the way it sits. The car seems to do just about everything right except for the 2 small rear power windows which will likely need to have the switches cleaned up and the motor lubed and the tracks cleaned... its usually fairly easy to get these old power windows working with a simple servicing. The Front Power Windows work just fine. The In Dash Electric Clock is the only other thing that I can think of that is not working properly. The Lights and all Signals work properly. The Air Conditioning was gone over with New Lines and a New Super efficient Sanden Air Conditioning Compressor which is attached to the Original Ford Mounting Bracket.... The Air Conditioning was also converted to the new R134 Refrigerant and the AC is ICE COLD.....By far the coldest Air Conditioning that Ive ever had in any old car and actually colder than the Air Conditioning in my new car!!!! The Trim on this car is Original and most is in Good Original condition although there are a few pieces with some bumps, bruises and scrapes. The Rear Bumper is very nice and was Rechromed a few years ago and the Front Bumper is Original and Nice and Straight.... good enough for a Driver but would need to be rechromed for a show car. The Interior is BEAUTIFUL and was restored using all of the Correct NOS Materials from SMS Auto Interiors.... the cost to do the interior was said to be $4800 ...... the only thing I would consider doing to the interior is to either restore the worn Original steering wheel and detail the Dash and some of the paint above the door panels on the interior is showing a little wear. The Dash has all of the Original Knobs and Switches which are specific to the 1961 and 1962 Galaxies and all are in Good Original condition. The Engine runs great and the 352 Big Block FE pulls the 1961 Galaxie along quite nicely with the 3 Speed Manual Transmission and the 3.56 geared 9" Rear! The engine starts easily and when she fires up, the choke comes right up to High Speed Idle.... works just as it should and when its warmed up, you just kick it down to a nice smooth idle! The Transmission shifts very nice with no problems and the clutch works just fine. The Brakes work fine and the Power assist is a nice option in this Big Block Powered Finned 2 Door Hardtop! The Power steering works fine but seems to have a leak.... Im sure its no big deal and I might even have another Power Steering Pump around to throw in with the car just in case although I doubt it needs a pump... probably a line that needs replacing or tightening. The car drives up the Road quite nicely and goes down the Highway just fine although the 3.56 gears make it feel like a bit of a Hot Rod at times..... this baby has no trouble getting up to highway speeds quickly with the 3 Speed and those 3.56 gears although the addition of a Taller Tire will bring the RPM's down to make the old Galaxie friendlier for Highway driving! The car has what I believe to be its Original 14" Steel Wheels with the Correct Original dog dish hubcaps. The Tires on the car now are Nice Wide Goodyears with beautiful tread but they are older with some cracking on the sidewalls. I would replace the tires before driving any long distance. I also compared the Goodyear Tires that are presently on the car with a pair of Original style 7.10-14 Tires and the old 7.10-14 Tires are a good 2" Taller than the Radials that are on the car now. This would account for the car feeling like its equipped with 3.90 -4.10 gears when its actually equipped with the original 3.56 gears . I have a set of 4 Ford 15" Steel Wheels which are painted Yellow with like New Tires and the wheels and I would be willing to sell these to the High Bidder at a very fair price. The 15" Tires are Taller and will bring the RPM's down quite a bit which will make the car far more driver friendly, especially on the Highway! The Trunk in this car is very Original with the complete Original Jack and the Original Yellow Painted Steel wheel with an old Goodyear Thunderbolt Spare Tire. The Trunk Mat is in good shape and the Original Cardboard Filler Panels which mount on each side of the Trunk are still in place and in good condition. The Original Jacking Instructions are still on the underside of the Trunk Lid. The Trunk is very solid with a nice solid trunk floor. The Trunk pan has some light surface crust from moisture sitting under the Mat but its no big deal and needed nothing more than a little clean up and a fresh coat of paint . Just about every 1961-1962 Galaxie seems to gather moisture under the trunk mat but this was always a Western car so the trunk is nice and solid. Im not sure what else I can really say about the old Galaxie except that it will make somebody a Nice driver or a great looking car with a fresh paint job and some personal modifications.....maybe you want to install a set of Mag wheels or even a cool Stereo. Whatever you decide, you can be sure that your starting off with a good solid and fairly rare optioned 1961 Galaxie Victoria Hardtop. Im sure there are a few things that you'll want to do before you take the Galaxie on a cross country trip but I dont believe there are any serious mechanical issues with the car. Its always started up and runs just fine and has never overheated. These 1961 Galaxie's have a very loyal following and this was the last year for the Finned Quarter Panels on the Galaxie line. These cars are just outright cool from any angle and I often find myself standing in my garage just looking at the Galaxie and taking in all of the COOL Lines on this "one year" body style! I know Im not the only car nut out there that stands alone in their garage looking at their cars and thinking the same thing. I did the same kind of stuff when I was a young kid and my feelings about these 61's are still the same. THE 1961 FORD GALAXIE'S ARE JUST SUPER COOL!!!!! I dont think Im alone when it comes to this line of thinking. These 61's are just outright cool!!! Anyway...... as I was saying, Im not sure what else there is to say about this 1961 Galaxie Victoria 2 Door Hardtop..... its a Solid Original car with the 352 Big Block, 3 Speed Transmission, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Power Windows, Power 4 Way Bench Seat, Drivers Side Rearview Mirror, Original Ford Front Seat Belts which are very Nice but not shown in the pictures, Electric Clock, ICE COLD Original Ford Air Conditioning with a Beautiful Original Under Dash Unit with very Nice Original Chrome.... the Switches for the AC work perfectly and the Air is COLD COLD COLD even on the hottest of days!!! The 61 Galaxie is a Radio Delete car with the Original Radio Delete plate still in the Dash and the Dog Dish Hubcaps are still on the car and in good original condition. Overall just a Cool Original car thats very solid and quite unusual. Im sure there are some things that Im missing as I could not have remembered everything but I dont think Ive missed anything thats all that important. Like most 50+ year old unrestored cars, Im sure there are little things that you'll want to do to the car but this is an excellent foundation to either use as a driver or you can always give the car a restoration if thats what your into. Im no so sure that I would give the car a full restoration as its a cool driver as it is but you can always do some cosmetics to your liking or make the car your own with a cool set of Vintage Mag Wheels..... personally I like the Dog Dish Hubcaps and the Steel Wheels although I did consider installing a Vintage set of wheels on the car and then changed my mind. I was going to install the 15" Steel Wheels with the new 15" Tires that I mentioned earlier to give the car a more aggressive stance while making the car more Highway friendly at the same time. I was also thinking of having the car repainted in the Original Desert Gold(Yellow) Paint and possibly having the roof painted in Wimbledon White. I love two tone paint cars and thought that the Yellow and White would look awesome together. Anyway.... enough of my rambling..... Below is a picture of the Original Trim Tag thats located in the Drivers Side Door Jamb and you can see the Original Factory Paint in the picture.....in you look closely at the top of the photo, you'll see what I believe to be the Stamped Date code for this piece of Original Sheet Metal..... Ford stamped date codes on just about every part they made! I will decode the plate and hopefully it will be of some help to you guys. VIN NUMBER: 1D57X150789 DECODES AS FOLLOWS: 1= 1961 MODEL YEAR D= DALLAS TEXAS TEXAS FORD ASSEMBLY PLANT 57= GALAXIE 2 DOOR CLUB VICTORIA X= 352 CUBIC INCH 8 CYLINDER ENGINE 150789= SEQUENTIAL BUILD NUMBER FOR DALLAS ASSEMBLY PLANT BODY: 65A = GALAXIE CLUB VICTORIA 2 DOOR HARDTOP COLOR: F = SALES NAME "DESERT GOLD" YELLOW TRIM: 34 = BROWN SHIMMER FABRIC AND VINYL DATE: 24G = JULY 24, 1961 SCHEDULED BUILD DATE TRANS: 1 = STANDARD 3 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION AXLE: 1 = 3.56 GEAR CONVENTIONAL REAR AXLE As you can see the car appears to be exactly as it was delivered when it was new as far as the Color, Interior, Engine, Transmission and so forth...... I believe the car to have the Original 3.56 Gears in the Original 9" Rearend because of the way that the car pulls through the gears and because of the rpm's when your at Highway Speed. The car is a good driver with the 3.56 gears and the 3 Speed Manual Transmission and its a blast to cruise around town in. This would be cool with a 4 speed but for the sake of originality and my lack of time, well its remained very original while in my care. I have to say that Ive always been tempted to install an early Borg Warner T-10 4 Speed Manual Transmission in this Galaxie as it would make the car that much cooler in my opinion but I just never got around to it and as I said earlier, its just a very original car so it would be a tough decision to make . This 1961 Galaxie would be awesome with a 4 Speed Transmission and Ive heard from several of my old school Ford friends that the the Borg Warner T-10's were available from the Dealer late in 1961! Ive seen several 1961 Starliner's with the 390-401hp Tripower Option and a 4 Speed Transmissions that were said to have been Dealer converted so I guess that anything was possible if you were willing to pay for it. I have an Original 1962 Ford Advertisement from CAR AND DRIVER Magazine from the January 1962 issue which Ive attached below. How cool would this Galaxie be with a 4 Speed Transmission with the Original Style Shifter poking its 4 Speed Shift Knob just over the top of the Bench Seat??? Pretty Cool for sure! Thanks again for taking the time to read this very long auction. Keep in mind that this is an Original 51 year old car and it has not been restored. Its a turnkey driver that I have used from time to time cruising around my area and I made a trip to one of our Cruise Night gatherings last Summer. I also drove the Galaxie back and forth to work for a week back in the Summer because my daily driver was in getting some work done and the old 61 Galaxie was the only other car that I owned with good working Air Conditioning! My ride to work is not all that far but the old Galaxie never missed a beat and it was a pleasure to drive the old Galaxie with the Air Conditioning blasting ice cold air! The old Galaxie is solid and Original and as I said, its never been restored outside of having the interior done and some upgrades to the cars charging system by way of an Alternator replacing the old Generator set up. The body is solid and it wouldnt take much to get this car ready to repaint. It would make a nice driver for somebody and they can enjoy the car while making improvements as their time and finances allow. I can see this 1961 Galaxie with a new coat of the Original Code "F" Desert Gold Paint and some freshening of the original Trim along with a complete detailing of the engine compartment and maybe even some cool chrome dress up pieces under the hood..... combine that with your choice of Cool Wheels and a Custom Flowmaster Exhaust system and if your really up to it, maybe even the addition of a 4 Speed Transmission with the original Ford style Bench Seat 4 Speed Shifter or maybe even a Vintage Hurst shifter! WHAT A COOL CAR!!!!! Hey, you gotta keep dreaming guys...... when your done dreaming then its time to get out of the car hobby!!!
