Vehicle Detail
You are looking at a 1972 Lincoln Mark IV with the very rare opera window delete option. For 1972 only you had the option to delete the opera windows on your new Mark IV Lincoln and from what I have been able to research, of the 48,591 Mark IV's that Lincoln produced for the 1972 model year, less than 580 had the opera window delete option. Although I have not been able to verify an exact number, I do know that this is the only one of these I have ever seen and I have been a Lincoln Mercury enthusiast all of my life. This car has been a one owner car all of its life until recently and was purchased new by its original owner in San Jose, CA in October 1971 where it remained since. I am the second owner and it has travelled only 79,712 miles since new and was parked in the original owner's garage since 1991. It was also special ordered with Continental wheel covers instead of the standard Mark IV wheel covers. I recently had the following items done: new A/C compressor and conversion to R134A refrigerant, new heater core, new radiator and cap, all new belts and hoses and water valve, complete tune up with new spark plugs, ignition wires, distributor cap, rotor and vacuum advance, electronic ignition conversion (pertronix), new battery and cables, new fuel pump and filter, fresh oil and filter, new master cylinder, new alternator, carb rebuilt but still needs slight idle adjustment, new water pump and thermostat, fuel tank flush and clean. The body is absolutely rust free with it original paint and the only blemishes are a small parking lot ding in the passenger's door (would not show up in pictures) and about a 4" deep scratch in the driver's door that has been touched up. There is also some slight bubbling under a corner of the vinyl top near the rear window, see pictures for these. I talked to a convertible top shop and they said it would be possible to remove the window trim, peel back the vinyl and clean up the bubbling without damaging the vinyl. The original Calvary Twill vinyl top has a couple of small stains that could be scrubbed out but there is no cracking, fading, or tears in it anywhere. The car drives and shifts smoothly and the tires still have about 90% tread on them. The brakes were done about 800 miles ago according to the original owner and the linings still show about 95%. The interior is all original and the plastic arm rests have none of the typical cracking or breaking. This Lincoln was equipped with almost every option available at the time and all the power windows, seats, trunk, and door locks work perfectly. The fuel gauge is out of calibration by about 1/4 tank, the clock does not work, and the power antenna is stuck but everything else works fine. The carpets show no signs of wear and the door panels and headliner are all in excellent condition with no cracks or tears. The original dealer installed floor mats are still with the car also. The dash is perfect and has no cracks or fading and the original leather seats are very clean and soft although the driver's side does have the usual crease marks from being sat in over the years and there is a tiny 1/4" tear in the back at the bottom but this would be an easy fix for an upholstery shop. The original trunk carpeting is also flawless and the spare and jack are still there. The original sales brochures and owners manual are also included. The original owner also had the exhaust system replaced about 2K miles ago with a dual exhaust system instead of the original single exhaust which was so restrictive. All the chrome on this Lincoln is excellent as is typical with an original California car and there is no pitting or fading but there is a very small ding in the back bumper and one in the rear wheel trim which I couldn't get to show with my camera. The car also still has its original California blue license plate which will be included with the sale. Overall this is a beautiful example of a rare optioned Mark IV with a very desirable color combination. I'm sure you will not see another one of these opera window delete models again on Ebay and my reserve is only about 1/3 of the NADA book value so happy bidding. Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions you might have as I'm sure I have probably missed something in the description. I will be happy to answer all questions and have additional pictures I can send but Ebay would only let me put up 24 for the auction. On Dec-02-11 at 17:08:25 PST, seller added the following information: ****UPDATE: I had an electrical friend of mine look at the power antenna and he determined that it was in fact the switch that was bad so I managed to find an original 1972 dated Ford/Lincoln antenna switch just like the one in the car. I just won't have time to install it so I will include it with the sale and once installed the power antenna should work fine again.
