Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is probably something you have never seen before! A couple years ago I purchased 2 cars from a garage that had been in storage since 1951 (see pics - not included in auction). In the rafters of the same garage was a steel covered wooden framed box with Logco Motor Oil & LeHunt Oil & Gas stencils on the side. After pulling the box down, we discovered it was some type of pop up camper for an early pickup. It measures 4' wide by 6' long - the same dimensions of a Model A pickup bed. There are 2 steel brackets that extend down and would attach to the bed floor or the truck frame. There is a door on the back of the box with a 1920's period latch and padlock - I do not have the key. The entire side of the box also hinges down and is supported by 2 chains - evidently for display reasons, a work area or so it can be used as a camper. There are glass windows that still have little curtains on them - all glass is original and good. When the top is extended up, there is a canvas curtain with period latches to fully enclose the extended areas. the canvas is original and plyable - it is not dry rotted. All the wood frame work is solid with no rot. The top slats in the roof are cloth covered and there is also a light in the top with the original 20's/30's vintage blown bulb. The steel skin is in excellent condition with no rust or rot - very well preserved museum quality piece. As for the Logco Motor Oil / LeHunt Oil & Gas logos: The box was purchased from the Watkins estate in Independence KS. Mr Watkins owned and operated LeHunt Oil & Gas in Cherryvale KS. In the 20's, they were one of the largest oil recyclers in the USA where they recycled oil for Logco Motor Oil. It is believed that this box was either used as a Geologist Shack while exploring for oil or that it was used for the bed of a delivery truck. Inside the box was a test tube full of crude oil with a test receipt from LeHunt Oil & Gas - I will include this in the auction. Logco & LeHunt items are very rare today but a few have popped up here on E-Bay and are coveted by collectors. Regardless of what it actually is, there is no doubt it is rare and would be a great piece to any collection. Bonus! I am also including another box that was in the rafters - it is wooded framed and covered in canvas. It is approx 4' wide and 2' tall. There is a door on each end with 20's/30's period latches & hinges. It apparently was intended to sit behind a vehicle or truck cab - possibly used as a salesmans box. There was LeHunt Oil & Gas paper inside it as well. I am offering this box for sale AS IS with NO RESERVE. I will provide a Bill of Sale upon payment to the winning bidder. Buyer is responsible for transportation. I can help load it and it will fit in the bed of a late model pickup. If you are planning on shipping this piece, I can fasten it to a pallet for a small fee. Full payment due within 7 days or upon pickup - whichever comes first. If you have any questions or need more info, please give me a call at 620-330-6815 or send me a message. Thanks and good luck!
