Vehicle Detail

1986 Alfa Romeo Veloce Spider Convertible VIN: ZARBA5415G1036024 Here’s a nice Alfa Spider Veloce Convertible we’ve just acquired and can now offer our great Ebay customers. I’m always on the lookout for low-milege, unusual vehicles and really hit the mark with this one! It appears the Alfa was a theft victim twenty years ago and, after being recovered undamaged, was reclaimed by the original owner back from their insurance company. It was then properly stored here locally in the Puget Sound area for many years by the owner before coming up for sale a short time ago. There is NO history of any accidents, title brands for salvage, flood damage, rebuild or any other nasty negatives to cause concern. Please contact me with any questions or to make an offer before the auction ends. My direct phone number is 206/914-1173 and my name is Mark Thompson. You’re welcome and encouraged to make an appointment during business hours to inspect this great little car. Here’s a little background on Alfa’s most popular convertible: Based on the Giulia 105 series chassis, the Spider was launched in 1966. The name "Duetto" was chosen in a write-in competition in Italy. Pininfarina was responsible for the design of the body, as well as being involved in the manufacture of the vehicle's monocoque construction (designed with the then relatively new principles of crumple zones at the front and rear). The engine was a 1570cc variant of the Alfa Romeo twin camshaft four cylinder engine and produced 109 hp. They were sparsely fitted inside but included a five speed transmission, disc brakes and independent front suspension. The original Spider was only in production for a year, replaced in 1967 by the 1750 Spider Veloce, powered by a 118 hp 1779cc engine. In Europe this was fitted with two twin carburetors, whereas models for our market had SPICA mechanical fuel injection. Modifications were also made to the suspension, brakes, electrics, wheels and tires though the car looked effectively the same. Visible differences were limited to the rear-view mirror repositioned to the door, and different badging on the tail. The car's official title was 1750 Spider Veloce, the name Duetto being dropped from this point on. In 1970 the first significant change to the exterior styling was introduced on the 1750 Spider Veloce, with the original's distinctive elongated round tail changed to a more conventional cut-off style, called the Kamm tail, which arguably made the car look more modern. Numerous other small changes took place both inside and out, such as a slightly different grille, new doorhandles, a more raked windshield, top-hinged pedals and an improved interior 1971 saw the Spider Veloce get a new, larger powerplant - a 1962cc, 132 hp unit - and consequently the name was changed from 1750 Spider Veloce to 2000 Spider Veloce. Production of the original Spider ended in 1993. An all-new version arrived one year later but, to the best of my knowledge, wasn’t offered in the North American market. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: What a fun car! If it weren’t for the rainy winter weather coming to the great Pacific Northwest, I’d keep and be driving this Spider every day. Climb over, under and throughout and I know you’ll come up smiling! Rust? Please, this Spider hates rust and you won’t find anything to really worry about here. Yes, the Puget Sound area is famous for rain, but our winter roads are never salted. We only have one or two days of light snow each year. Everyone panics and stays home. Besides, I know this car hasn’t seen a winter road in years. As you see in my photos the odometer reads just 43,600 miles and we’re fairly certain these are original. The 2000cc 4-cylinder injected engine starts immediately and runs great with lots of power. The five-speed gearbox shifts smoothly - no grinding into second gear as you’ll find on many Alfas. A black vinyl convertible top has been fitted and is in excellent shape with a clear, no-clouded rear window and no rips or tears. Because I’m always asked, Veloce refers to the middle of the model line for the Alfa Spider. The base model is the Spartan “Graduate” with vinyl seats and no extras. The “Veloce” has the nicer leather seats, power windows and a few other options. Top-of-the-line is the “Quadrifoglio” with the green four leaf clover insignia. CONDITION: Overall, this is a clean, nonsmoker roadster. I take great pride in the vehicles we sell and feel that you should know as much about the car as possible. Accordingly here is a list of the good and also things needing attention: All the glass is in great shape. The door panels and carpeting are original and in very decent condition. Hop in, fire her up and this car starts almost instantly, even when cold. I took the spider out today for these photos and cruised at 65 MPH for about twenty miles. What a difference having that fifth transmission gear makes! Nice, strong clutch too! There is no noticeable body rust or rot, just some blemishes on the hood from poor respray prep many years ago. The rest of the paint is bright and true, still holding quite a shine! The front fenders, doors and floorpans all appear solid, in fact the entire undercarriage is in great condition for a 26-year-old car. The 14” factory Campagnolo wheels are all straight and true, and the 185/70R14 Goodyear Eagle GA radials are all at least 75%. Take another good look at the interior photos. The black leather upholstery is trimmed with red stiching and is in very good condition. I find no splitting, cracks or wear-through spots in the leather. All the glass is sound with no pitting or cracks. I’m sure the carpets and door panels are original as well and are still very serviceable and clean. NO cracks to the dashtop at all! I want you to BID WITH CONFIDENCE and know that you are purchasing a nice car, however, please don’t be upset if I miss a few more minor flaws or you are required to spend a small amount on an unforeseen problem! No used car is ever perfect. I want you to be happy with your purchase (and with me) and that is my main goal! As outlined above, please contact me with any questions. My direct phone number is 206/914-1173 and my name is Mark Thompson. You’re welcome and encouraged to make an appointment to stop by and inspect, drive and make an offer. If you’re thinking of bidding on a comparable MG or Triumph of similar vintage, you really owe it to yourself to look over this car first! Please Note: WE will NEVER, EVER “shill” or falsely "bump-up" an auction (a violation of eBay rules and also Federal Law). Because of the amount of money involved in buying a vehicle, we require that new eBay members with a feedback history of five or fewer transactions call or email before placing a bid. If we don’t have this initial contact, your bid may be cancelled. A Few Additional Terms and Conditions: Please check the photos over closely and call with any questions BEFORE you place a bid! You’re encouraged to inspect the vehicle at our premises on weekdays, so send your representative early to be sure you don't miss this one. We reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any negative feedback. DEALERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME TO BID AS WELL! Additionally I reserve the right to end the auction early if the Alfa is no longer for sale because we’ve accepted someone’s offer here locally or otherwise. A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction’s end. Because of the high fees they charge, we accept PAYPAL for the deposit only. The balance is due by cash or certified funds within seven days unless prior arrangements have been made with us. Please remember you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold, inspect or then come test-drive the vehicle later (You’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends). If you do decide to have the car shipped home, there are numerous vehicle transport companies to choose from. We ship vehicles regularly and I'd suggest that you get a transport bid from www.U-ship.com. Transporters will bid delivery of the vehicle and you'll be able to choose who you want to use. The zip code for pick-up would be 98032 (Kent, WA) to get an instant on-line quote. The shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER. The car can be stored free of charge at our location for up to fourteen days after the auction ends providing full payment has been made. After that date, we charge $20 per day storage. The Buyer will be responsible for the licensing requirements in their state of residence. If you live here in Washington State we’ll need to collect the 9.8% sales tax, title preparation, transfer and registration fees (conversely, if you’re from somewhere else, you won’t be paying any sales tax to us). Because the Alfa is advertised and for sale locally, I reserve the right to cancel this auction early if it’s no longer available for sale online. The State of Washington shall have exclusive jurisdiction over all disputes. Venue shall be exclusively in King County. The final contract signed between both buyer and seller shall be binding. The final signed contract and terms thereof shall govern the sale. All disputes arising out of or relating to this auction, any negotiations, the signed agreement, or to the breach, enforcement or interpretation thereof, shall be resolved by binding arbitration in Washington, in accordance with the terms contained in the final sale agreement and under the laws of the State of Washington. Whew! Don’t you just love legalese?
