Vehicle Detail

1981 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham There are 92 pictures below... Be patient, it is worth the wait 1981 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham D’Elegance Sedan with 32K miles. This is quite a unique car for its condition and its incredible options. If you know Cadillacs, you know that this was the final year for the "good" Cadillac engine. This ’81 Fleetwood has the 6.0 litre/368 cubic inch V8-6-4 big block cast iron fuel injected Cadillac engine based on the same architecture as the 425. This is a 100% original car loaded with all the good stuff. In fact it's the single highest optioned 1981 I have ever encountered, not to mention it has 32K miles and is as well of a preserved car as you can get. This is one of the nicest 1981 Fleetwoods there is and any that are close likely don’t have all the options this one does. This car has the rare Astroroof. This makes the car even more collectable. Also, it has the factory wire wheels, not the wire covers, but the real wire wheels – a hit with collectors. Another rare option this car has is a driver’s memory seat. This is the only ’81 Cadillac I have seen with this option. This also has the factory alarm or “Theft Deterrent System”. Below is a full list of the options. Floor Mats - carpeted rubber – front Floor Mats - carpeted rubber – rear Trunk Mat Door Edge Guards Rear Window Defogger - includes heated outside mirrors Mirrors - illuminated vanity - driver and passenger Electronic Level Control Cruise Control Front License Plate Mounting Provisions Recliner power - passenger seat Mirrors - electric power o/s rear view – includes illuminated thermometer on left side Headlamp Control – Guidematic Trumpet Horn Memory Seat Door Locks – Automatic Generator - 100 amp Cooling System - heavy duty Astroroof Differential - limited slip Tires - Puncture Sealing Theft Deterrent System Engine Block Heater Wheels - wire locking Symphonic Sound System AM/FM stereo signal seek and scan with digital display and cassette player d'Elegance - Brougham cloth License Plate Frame – two Firemist Exterior Color Exterior Colors - Sheffield Gray Firemist - Red Accent Stripe Medium Silver Gray Metallic Vinyl Top Interior Cloth Color - Slate Gray Now here is where it gets even better. Although all the above options are about everything you can get, what is not seen on the surface is the carry over of the heavy duty hardware from the 70s such as the TH400 transmission that was indestructible along with the big block engine - these cars would last forever. This car has the best interior I have seen in condition and quality. The quality knit fabric velour used in 1980/81 makes you wonder why they even offered leather. Look at the photos of the carpet and floor mats in pale gray – this alone shows how well this car was cared for. All these cool options would not be so interesting if this car did not have 32K miles in mint garaged condition with original paint. Combining all this together really puts this car over the edge. As noted in the photos, this car is in incredible condition. In the classic car scale, this would be a #2 condition car. As you know a #1, is a car that has not been driven more than a few times in its life – I have only seen one ’81 Cadillac in that condition, a blue Coupe de Ville. This car is close to that truly brand new condition. The typical 30 year old Cadillac flaws do not apply to this car. The hard to replace bumper extensions (fillers) that always crack are original and like new. Try and find that on any car this age! The cornering light lenses are crystal clear, many this age show fogging. The power antenna works perfect which is unusual for these cars. The rear level suspension works perfect. The Electroluminescent Opera Lamps work great. The plastic chrome on the dash is like new – bright and clear like it should be. The entire interior is flawless, even the headliner has no sag at all. All weather stripping is mint, pliable and good as new. This car has been kept right, then some. The vinyl top is mint – you can even see all the stitching of the French seams are completely intact and the sheen of the vinyl is just like new. There is no sun fade, heat damage or rust to take away from this car. It is obvious this car was truly cherished throughout its life. The powerful and high torque 6.0 accelerates to near modern expectations and fuel economy is better than any full size pickup. The car drives straight and shifts smoothly. The air conditioning works as new as with everything as expected on a car of this caliber. All the LEDs on the radio and climate controls are bright and work. Everything works like it did when this car was new in 1981. Ok, you get the picture this car is perfect....... Well, not really.... As with any car, there are flaws... There are always flaws....! Not many to pick on here, but the trim on the top of the front bumper has some minor rubbing – caused by the engine block heater plug rubbing on this brushed stainless piece immediately below the grill (this would not show up in the photos). There is a minor rubbing of the paint on the raised edge near the trunk lock (you can see the photos of this in the detail of the truck). I am the biggest critic of these cars known, take that for what its worth.... Finally, I do not have the original compact spare. The original owner didn’t want the “little donut” for a spare tire and got a full size tire as a spare instead. You will probably find this car 100% acceptable the way it is and it is still is better than any original 1981 Cadillac you will ever see! As this car was originally bought new in Canada, the odometer reads 52K kilometers (or 32K miles). In fact, the only thing that identifies this car as sold new in Manitoba is the speedometer/odometer in kilometers and the daytime running lamps (just like new cars in the US today). Interestingly enough, under the hood, the stickers state that the car “conforms to US EPA regulations” and has other references to US standards. After all, this car rolled down the same Clark Avenue plant in Detroit just like every Cadillac sold in the US. This car will make a great addition to any collection and is a very solid investment grade car given its condition and rare options. Restored cars only dream of being like this, and this car is original. Have no fear buying this car from me in person or over the internet. What you see and what I describe is what you get. This car is what it is, one impressive turn key package collectors car. The car is located in Dallas and I can drop off at any shipping terminal in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Inspection are welcomed. Please email me for questions you might have. Good luck. Notice the chrome and the plastic lens in perfect condition, this is not a common find Car originally sold in Steinbach, Manitoba – this dealership is still in business today Many of these vintage Cadillacs have some of the LEDs not working, especially on the radio – in this car, they are work like new As this car was sold new in Canada, the speedometer and odometer are in kilometers – for you US buyers, the miles per hour is shown as a subscript, just the reverse of our cars here – rather unique feature Just look at the condition of the carpet and the mat – this is especially amazing considering the pale gray color of this interior. By the way, the camera has made some of my interior photos look a bit blue, this interior is clearly a pale gray, not a pale blue like shown in this photo Many of these vintage Cadillacs have sagging or wrinkled headliners – this is the original and in perfect condition This is where you insert the factor garage door opener This car has both Twilight Sentinel and Guidematic headlights – both the lights and the high beams can be set for automatic operation The memory seat is a very rare option Power heated mirrors on both sides – common today, but in 1981 was a high end option only offered on true luxury cars Factory alarm – open any door or the trunk or the hood and the trumpet horn lets you know someone is messing with your car – another rare option >Outside illuminated thermometer – many have cracked or crazed lenses, this one is perfect This is the minor flaw in the paint on the deck lid I mentioned in the description The prize of collectors - an Astroroof adds a lot of a value to any collectable GM car – and the opening is so large, it’s almost like having a targa top – another rare option Notice the condition of the stitching, this shows how gently this car was cared for – most of the time, even well preserved cars have a little fraying of the stitching Also there’s no “dressing” on this vinyl top, the sheen is from its like new condition I do have a full size spare if the new buyer wants it with the car >This is the minor flaw in the paint on the deck lid I mentioned in the description Winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours of auction end, and make arrangements for payment at that time.
