Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is my beloved steed, my trusty V-Strom 1000 cross continent bike. This is a wonderful bike with a lot of character and excellent do it all prowess. The bike was purchased brand new in 2007 at Suzuki of Mineola in NY, and ridden solely by me on long distance trips or short weekend jaunts. This bike is not being made anymore as of 2008 and I think they can occasionally be found as left overs here and there but rather sparse. It is an awesome, powerful, reliable machine, rather light in its category. Its other competitors, the BMW R1200GS and the KTM are rather pricey (double for the Beemer) and this bike can perform just as well. With a liter engine pulled from the infamous TL1000R or SV1000 if you will, this bike does not lack power. In fact at 98HP this is a comfortable do it all tourer and can easily keep up with the sports bike in the twisties without fatiguing the rider. This is the same bike I rode to Alaska and back the summer of 2008. Man what a trip! Back to the bike. While mostly stuck, the bike has been somewhat upgraded as follows: * As some of you know this bike is mapped rather lean for it to pass emissions, so the moment you slap on a set of cans on it, it will stall in stop n go traffic, therefore a Power Commander III has been installed. The best fuel map for best fuel economy and power has been uploaded. I have experimented with a number of maps and most seem to be too rich wasting gas, however, after extensive research on the forums (vstrom.info and advrider.com) I managed to find one the best maps out there. It has been uploaded and unchanged since. The Commander can be customized to your liking if so desired. * A set of Akrapovic cans make this bike sound amazing. The silencers can be re-installed and the bike can sound stock if so desired. * A set of Touratech aluminum hard cases (40 liter each) together with racks has been installed ($990 cost back in 2008) * A set of H.I.D. Hella auxiliary lights, together with custom light bar from Twisted Throttle has also been installed ($750 ) * A set of GIVI crash-bars * SW Motech aluminum skid plate to protect the engine * Handlebar brace from Touratch for mounting accessories * Bike is wired for running heated gear, excellent on those cold mornings * And finally, a set of custom made brackets for forward contols by me, with Touratech folding shifter has also been fitted. Bike can be reverted to original in minutes. That's about it. If anything else I missed I will add as I remember. Now, the reason for selling is as usual need for money to pay off debts. I was advised against selling, and many a times I abstained knowing that I'll have to buy a bike again but the circumstances are dire. Our daughter will be born this upcoming month and the money will be used to bank her chord blood and tissue, so I will not feel so bad for selling. Finally, as can be seen in pics, I dropped the bike on my way to Alaska in 2008 while it had 2500 miles on it. A Hella was lost and one of the cases took the brunt. The case can be replaced or properly fixed. I never cared much about the aesthetics of it so i just riveted it back into place. A single xenon Hella is hard to outsource, as I have tried a few times. You can get a set and keep the one on there as a spare. Keep in mind that only the light itself is needed, as the ballast and wiring are still in place. I called Hella and theywanted 400 for a light. Your best bet is Ebay, or maybe install a Hella fog light on there, as they are cheap ($100 or so a pair) and they look exactly the same as the Xenon lights. Service and oil changes have always been performed on time, and the bike runs synthetic oil right now. The valve adjustment was done at 15k miles and they'd only need checking. Once the valves get properly seated adjustment won't be necessary anymore, and this usually happens after the first adjustment. Chain has also been replaced and the injection was synchronized as well. Please feel free to call me with questions at 917 440 4458 or 845 609 7485 nights. Bike is located and garaged in Orange county, NY. GOOD LUCK, HAPPY BIDDING AND THANKS FOR LOOKING
