Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 1964 Mustang “D” code car (similar to 1965 “A” code) which is the 4V version of the 289 4-Speed transmission – making this a fairly rare power train optioned Mustang. OPTIONS: Rally Wheels, Hydraulic Power Top, Rally-Pac. Over $4000 of recent expenses have gone into the vehicle. Last registered and operated in 1982! HISTORY/EXTERIOR CONDITION: This is a solid, rust-free California car. I purchased the car in 1982 when I was in the Navy in San Diego from a gentleman living in Del Mar for my father. The car then essentially sat in a garage in Hesperia CA (high desert region) for the next 29 years until this summer when I completed the restoration (my father passed away 3 years ago and unfortunately, he never got around to restoring or even driving the car). I have included a photo of the license plate showing the tag from 1982 when I bought the car – I have the current tags, but haven’t put them on the car as of yet. I believe the odometer reading of 91K to be actual or close to actual as I have maintenance records for the car showing the mileage to be 71K in 1979. This isn’t one of those mid-western or east coast Mustangs that has been resuscitated back to life with panels and sheet-metal imported from China. PAINT: The Bad News: The car was painted in 1986 so there are a few chips and scratches. The Good News: The car was painted in 1986 – so any underlying rust would have bubbled to the surface in 25 years and, as the pictures show, no bubbles! (I have included pictures of the front fender/door joint and the rear fenders for your inspection). Overall, the paint is in good condition only needing a good buffing out. As you can see, the car is now blue on blue, it was originally Phoenician Yellow over tan/brown interior. CHROME: Most of the chrome pieces have either been chromed (bumpers) or replaced (back-up lights, mirrors, knobs, emblems, etc.). Exceptions include chrome around windshield and top. WEATHER STRIPPING: Almost all weather-stripping is new (doors, trunk lid, hood). Exceptions include vent windows, windshield (I did purchase a replacement weather strip for the windshield which I will include). MECHANICAL: The engine is not original, it is an “A” code block from a 1968 Mustang. The 4-speed installed in the car is a 1965 Ford Top-loader. The car runs strong and smooth - easily spinning the tires despite the factory single exhaust system. A compression check done on the car showed 165-170 pisg on all cylinders. Brakes are new and I have receipts for work done on the differential, clutch and front end. The steering is surprisingly tight for a car pushing 50 years old. INTERIOR: The car has a rare bench seat installed. I will also include a pair of matching bucket seats as well. The upholstery is not a kit, I had the interior work done by a shop in San Diego that specialized in Mustangs and did excellent work. The used only original materials purchased through Ford suppliers – the bench seat, buckets seats, rear seat, door panels, dash and tonneau cover all were upholstered at the same time and therefore match. The navy blue carpet is new, molded carpet purchased through NPD. Although the pony door panels are not original to the car, they provide a nice elegant touch and I have installed carpeted kick-panels to match. EXTRAS: I will include the set of bucket seats, a set of wire hub-caps, a set of standard hubcaps, the original steering wheel and all the original parts I replaced during the restoration. BUY-IT-NOW ONLY EXTRAS: If the car is purchased through the BIN option, I will also include the following items: 1) Original Ford Air Conditioning system, Power steering conversion package and extra gas tank. WHAT’S IT NEED? Well things that need completing are: 1) Back-up light wiring. I have the switch that mounts on the transmission and will include it. 2) Fuse box is not original – it was replaced by a prior owner, 3) Fan – defroster fan operates intermittently and will need attention, 4) Windshield washer system needs a pump, 5) Clock on Rally Pac is not operating. I was hoping to get to these things, but as I’m a teacher, now that school is going it’s going to be hard to find the time. Therefore, I originally was planning on setting the Buy-It Now at $18,500, so I have reduced it by $1000 to account for these items. SUMMARY: A 1964, A code, 4-speed, numbers matching, show car quality Mustang convertible would run twice the BIN price I am asking for this car. This is NOT a show car, but it is an excellent, solid, week-end cruiser or daily driver; and for $17,500, I believe that it’s a very good car for the money. PAYMENT: $1000.00 deposit due at end of auction to be paid using PayPal. Balance to be paid with bank wire transfer within 7days of end of sale. No refunds as car is sold as/is where/is with no warranties expressed or implied in any way or form. Any inspections are to be completed before the end of sale, not afterward. Please no exceptions. Please be ready to make deposit at end of sale and thanks so much for your bids, good luck. I have attempted to make known any defects I have discovered.
