Vehicle Detail

WANTED: A caring person to look after a dignified, elderly gentleman. He’s a 1931 Oldsmobile sporting a 197.5 cubic inch engine producing 65 HP. He’s taken awfully good care of himself – especially since retiring in 1975. He found a cozy dry warm spot in the corner of a barn in upstate NY and never moved a muscle for over 30 years. A couple of years ago he was discovered and found his way out into the world once again. Here are the facts – since coming out of storage; rebuilt the carburetor, new brakes, rebuilt transmission, new exhaust system (from exhaust manifold all the way back), dropped and cleaned the gas tank & installed inline fuel filters, rebuilt the cooling system (radiator, water pump and shutter system), new functioning Motometer, new spark plugs, new Die Hard battery, refinished the trunk and carefully buffed the old paint (which I doubt is the original). All the glass is clear; the windows crank up and down including the windshield. There are numerous parts including the speedometer cable, shutter cable, horn, heater (pictured) and a vast assortment of odds and ends; some probably junk…others hard to find treasurers. There’s a fair amount of literature relating to this old gem – including a photo copy of the original shop and body manuals that go along with him. He still has the original wiring – unfortunately it’s in a box in the garage. The coil, ignition and ammeter are wired and functional, but the lights and horn are not. The chrome is so-so…quite honestly not nearly as nice as the pictures might indicate, but OK for a Sunday driver. If you are familiar with GM’s of this era, many, like this one, are wood framed with a sheet metal skin. Most of the wood is in excellent shape, but one of the doors (RR) could use some help. This good fellow is not a candidate for the Concours de Elegance, so if that’s what you’re looking for…fer getta about it. But if you want to invite the grandkids to take a ride to the Dairy Queen, and not worry about a dribble of chocolate on the back seat…and share the fun of getting lots of looks and thumbs up along the way, then this is for you. If you like tinkering with a neat old car, this is good one for the shade tree mechanic who can easily remedy most of its frailties on his own. I’ve had a ton of fun with this old boy, but sadly must part ways with him. The pictures portray a classic 20 footer which is to say that when you get up close and personal, you’ll see his flaws. But it’s COMPLETE and ORIGINAL. And you know what they say; these guys are only original once. I encourage you to call or email with any questions before you bid. PayPal, wire transfer or certified check only. $500 deposit required within 24 hours. Full payment required within 5 days. Pick up within 10 days. Transportation is Buyer’s responsibility, but I’ll be happy to help. Thanks for your interest, Frank, 610/428-3218 voice or text.
