Vehicle Detail

1967 Modified Mustang Fastback Thanks for bidding on my dream car. I have wanted this car for years and finally built it exactly as I wanted it. Un-fortunately, because of a down turn in my business, I am reluctantly listing it for sale. This is originally a Candy Apple Red, “A” Code 289 4 Barrel car (I will attach the Marty Report next week). Vin # 7T02A198394. I bought the car 3 years ago with a 351 engine with a cracked piston. I disassembled the car and sent it out to be sand blasted and it came back with way more rust than I had anticipated. I decided against repairing it, because I wanted the best of everything and not allot of repair work. I ordered a 67 Mustang shell from Drake Customs out of Arizona, built with all new Dynacorn parts. The shell includes torque boxes as well as full sub frame connectors welded in, although I kept the original doors, hood & trunk in place. The car has new Big Block springs and front disc brakes from a 1970 Mach 1. It has a full set of new shocks, but currently has a pair of air shocks installed on the rear for required clearance for the back tires. I purchased a new set of Magnum 500 wheels for the car, 15 X 7 for the front & 15 X 8 for the rear. They have new BF Goodrich radial TA’s mounted on them, 235/65/15 front & 255/55/15 rear. I have had allot of mustangs as well as other high performance Fords as well, so I have many contacts for Ford parts. I located a 1969 428 Cobra Jet engine that I purchased and had the local FE expert shot peen the block, re-build it to factory specs, balance & blue print it. Specs are available on request. C8OE-8090-N heads with 9E-17 & 18 build dates. I have installed a huge aluminum radiator & incorporate both a 7” flex fan & a switched electric fan mounted in front of the radiator for those long stop lights & occasional parade runs. 428 CJ’s tend to get a little warm in parades. I wanted to build this car “Old School” the way I built my Torino Cobra back when I was in high school in 1973. I located a Ford 427 Dual 4 Barrel Aluminum Intake Manifold and had two 650cfm double pumper carburetors built to the factory specs for a dual quad set-up and had them finished in the polished aluminum finish. They are fed with 3/8” stainless steel fuel line from the tank running through an original Cobra jet fuel pump. The carbs are set up on progressive linkage, so it gets reasonable mileage and performance when driven around town, but when you stand on it, you get all 1,300 cubic feet per minutes of fuel for maximum fun. The ignition is a “zero vacuum” Accell mechanical advance dual point distributer, Accell Super Coil and Taylor plug wires, enabling immediate response any time you jump on it. I installed powder coated Hooker “Super Comp” headers, routed all the way back through Flow-Master Super 44 mufflers. I had the wide ratio 4 speed Top Loader re-built completely with parts from “Dan Williams Top Loader” out of North Carolina and installed a “T” handle Hurst Competition Shifter. All the power runs through a new Center Force competition clutch & pressure plate. From there I had Jim’s Drive Train build a drive shaft and install a safety loop on the chassis. This all runs back to a 1967 9 inch “N” Code nodular rear end with 3.70 gears and a possi-traction center assembly with 31 spline axles. I also installed chrome traction bars to help with getting the tires to hook up. I bought a set of high back bucket seats out of a 70 Mach 1 and ordered new seat covers for both the front & back seats covered with the 1970 matching vented vinyl & of course installed new carpet. The car has the fold down rear seats as well as the trap door back into the trunk. I purchased a center floor console and to round out the 70’s look, I installed dual ford racing mirrors & an original 70 Mach 1 fiberglass hood scoop. My body man is a perfectionist, so he used a 2-part epoxy weld to smooth out the scoop so it looks like the entire hood is formed as one piece. He also welded the front & rear fender extensions on with a 2 part epoxy then covered them with sheets of Kevlar for strength. He assures me they will never crack. When other Mustang owners see this car at the car shows, they are amazed at how clean and straight the lines are on the car. There are no emblems and all the holes are welded up where they were. The finish on the car is un-believable. It ought to be for the $6,000 I paid for it! The entire car is painted in Viper Red paint with gloss black stripes running the entire length of the car. When most people see this car, they can’t figure out what year it is. It has that 67 look to it, but all of the 70 Mach 1 equipment makes it look like what Ford would have done if they built a Mach 1 in 1967. I guess I achieved exactly what I set out to build. I have over $60,000 invested in this project and I built this car to keep for ever, but thanks to health care reform the health insurance market has been destroyed and I am force to sell it. The car has less than 500 miles on it since the frame off re-build. This isn’t a numbers matching car by any means, but it’s a no rust, zero bondo Mustang Fastback and I spared no expense buying the best parts available. If you want the best looking, jaw dropping, head turning Mustang in town, with the performance and sound to boot, then this is your car! Feel free to contact me with any questions you have. More interior pictures comming. Happy bidding. On Sep-03-11 at 18:27:36 PDT, seller added the following information: FYI… I just dropped the reserve price on my 67 428 Cobrajet Mustang Fastback from $35,000 down to $30,000! I’m selling this car tomorrow! Good luck bidding!
