Vehicle Detail

Background This is a rather unusual item, Austin Healey 100/6 S series versus the O series, meaning no overdrive. I believe that all the Austin Healeys delivered to the US were overdrive models so this must have been a special order. Perhaps the Healey aficionados out there can can clarify that point. Disk wheels with the dice valve stem caps (it came that way) complete the very 1950s retro look for the car.The car came from an estate sale (in a barn). The previous owner had purchased the vehicle in the late 1970's. The PO was meticulous in maintaining records of maintenance on the car. Included in the sale will be the PO's logs beginning in 1998 noting the maintenance and repairs on the car.As it sits today the vehicle is a solid driver. The car has been driven locally with the repairs mentioned below. Several YouTube videos have been posted showing the car starting (after sitting for 5 days) and driving. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OB3gG3o8Zb8 This is a matching numbers vehicle. Here is an opportunity to own a reasonably sharp looking big Healey, drive it now during the summer and restore to your own specifications at some later time. Running Gear and Mechanicals Chassis is sound but has been repaired using materials at hand, plate steel, angle stock. Car started with a fresh battery and fuel after sitting since 2008. Fuel tank was replaced (to eliminate the sediment), Carbs leaked so those were rebuilt, The fuel pump (not original) was intermittent so it was replaced by an after market pump. New spark plugs were installed. Compression was checked. All cylinders show 160 to 175 PSI during a compression test. Starts up without difficulty. Water temp remains about 190 Degrees F. Oil pressure is about 60 PSI. I cannot see any signs that the engine/transmission has been removed for repair at any time. The original non overdrive transmission shifts smoothly and clutch works fine. Rubber brake lines were replaces due to cracking (not leaking but just in case). Exterior Fenders and rocker panels have also been repaired over the years mostly with fiberglass patches. Exterior paint is above average, better than a "20 footer", as you can see in the photos. So, maybe its a 10 footer. The age of the paint job is unknown. Paint is a Metallic Brown with Ivory Coves. Judging by the engine bay the vehicle used to be red. Please note in the pictures that some spots at the rocker panel and the front fender are starting to show signs of bubbling. At some point the windshield appears to have been replaced with "plexiglass" equivalent. Interior Seats have non original covers but they are solid, without rips or tears. The horn, turn signals, running and driving lights all function properly. The original fuel gauge, temp gauge are inoperative. The Speedometer has been replaced with a later model so the actual mileage is unknown. Additional 3 pack of gauges (Oil, Amp and Temp) has been added. Charge light in Tach does not go out. Not Included Please Note: Only what you see in the pictures associated with the vehicle is included in this auction. What you do not see and are not included in the sale are: Convertible top or top frame, Tonneau Cover, Rear seat back, Side curtains, Spare Tire, Jack or Tool sets, Owners manuals or Other spare parts. These descriptions are accurate based on my honest observations. Please ask any other question you have and the reply will be posted for all to read. It is strongly suggested that any potential bidder make arrangements for an independent inspection to determine if this vehicle meets his or her needs. As with most any 50 year old vehicles all sales are final unless I have grossly misrepresented any fact about the vehicle. There are no warranties, expressed or implied as to the suitability of this vehicle for any purpose. The successful bidder will need to post a $500US PayPal deposit within 48 hours of the conclusion of the sale or risk having the vehicle offered to other bidders. Unless other mutual arrangements are agreed to the balance will be due within 7 days of the auction close. Other than that, best of luck with your bids for the unique example of an Austin Healey 100/6. On Aug-21-11 at 07:42:36 PDT, seller added the following information:PLEASE NOTE: The VIN is BN4L (4 seater) and not BN6L (2 seater) as incorrectly shown on the listing. Sorry for any confusion.
