Vehicle Detail
1979 PONTIAC TRANS AM ** TOP PERFORMER LEGEND LOW MILEAGE *** HIGH PERFORMANCE HISTORY OF PONTIAC Pontiac made its debut in 1926. The "ingin from Michigan" was sold by GM as a senior Chevrolet. Not too exciting, to say the least,.Pontiac competed in the low end of the medium price field. It never failed to out sell its nearest competitor, Mercury. There seemed to be no reason to build anything too exciting. It's easy to trace the history of Pontiac prior to 1955, it didn’t have one. The hot rods of the day were left to Ford with its flat head V8 dating back to 1932. Hotrods were just a negligible factor in the mass market. Pontiac got through 1954 with its inline sixes and eights. No one seemed to notice the Pontiac potential until Semon Knudsen assumed his post as General Manager of Pontiac Motor Division. Pontiacs had a good reputation, solid but deadly, deadly dull. They were the cars that elderly school teachers bought. Knudsen had different ideas. Early on he stated, "You can sell a young man's car to old people, but you cannot sell an old man's car to young people. He understood that if Pontiac sales were to grow it had to appeal to enthusiasts as well as older people interested in transportation only. The horse power race was on and he determined to make Pontiac the youngest car in the industry. One of his first actions was to rid the car of its dual hood stripes. The silver streak styling was a legend but it had to go. Knudsen thought they looked like suspenders. They were twenty years old, out of style and boring. Pontiac was going to be daring and forever young. A signal was sent through out the industry. PONTIAC WAS ON THE MOVE.... A RUNAWAY FREIGHT TRAIN. By 1957, the fuel injected Bonneville was launched and Pontiac was hip deep into stock car racing. By 1959, Pontiacs were unstoppable and unbeatable on the stock car circuit. One word said it all, EXCITEMENT. The Firebird Trams Am, like the one offered here, was an American hero for an amazing 35 years. From Knight Rider to Smokey and the Bandit.....they were all Pontiac. Its big feature was always a V8 and ultimate performance. The top performer was the Trans Am named after the US race series. The name and the car became a legend. With the collapse of the muscle car market, Pontiac fought to save the big bird and it did. Firebird blasted away the clouds when the Trans Am packed fearsome engines and a new decal. A huge image of an eagle with its wings out spread took up most of the hood. It screamed a rallying cry to performance fans the world over. In an instant , the Trans Am gained massive credibility and super cool status. THIS 1979 PONTIAC FIREBIRD TRANS AM What a difference a decade makes. In 1969, Trans Am was a smart looking car with ok sales.,IN 1979, THE TRANS AM WAS THE CAR EVERYONE WANTED. Immortalized, the Trans Am had emerged as a major contributor to Pontiac’s purse. The car sported separated quad headlamps above a massive "twin-venture bumper/grill, all done in body color. The back panel was also reworked. The taillights hid behind a smoke-color panel. Most importantly, this was the last year for the big-inch 403-cid (6.6 liter) V8 proudly displayed up through its shaker hood. The '79 is the one to own. It is the image of a performance car. This car is in wonderful condition considering it has never been restored. It is a highly original car. I will show it to you with close up pictures and words. I will take you inside, outside and under side, showing all the gbu. No attempt will be made to cover up, instead every attempt will be made to show it to you just like it is. I offer you my opinions and evaluations and will state every thing I know about the car. The car is an all metal car with very good magnetic adhesion. It has never been abused and shows gentle care. It is straight down the sides with excellent fit on all the panels including trunk and hood. Seldom included are close up under carriage pictures. We did not power wash or re-finish it in any way. This is just like we found it. It is completely original, there is no rust or scale, a testimony to the cars originality. Only the exhaust and shocks has been changed. This is an air conditioned car. Even the compressor is original. The air blows ice cold. The car has T-Tops, power windows, power brakes and power steering. All of these options are in perfect working order. The power windows line up correctly. All of the panels are original and show factory stampings. The shaker hood fits properly and the bird and all of the stickers are original and in good condition. The white letter tires are in very good condition as are the honey comb wheels. The hatch roof (CD4) is in excellent condition. The panels fit exactly right. All of the rubber seals on the entire car are original and in wonderful condition showing the care this car has had. The original keys go with the car. This is a low mileage car averaging less than 3000 miles per year However, this still represents 86,000 miles over a period of 32 years. Considering this, the car is in amazing condition. Things can happen even with excellent care. The few scars give this car the coveted patina and original authentic appearance. The trunk inside has never been repaired or painted, not even touched up .It is completely dry and rust free, all original except for the carpet. The replacement is an authentic reproduction. Even the original jack is still there and in very good condition. It is tucked up under just like it was from new. The original spare tire is in place and in new condition. The whole trunk looks and feels very close to new. Open the doors and you will find the original factory rust proof plugs. They have never been painted over. This speaks volumes for the originality of the car. The doors are solid and the inner panels look like new. The Trans Am steering wheel is in very good condition. The famous metal dash and Rally gauge cluster including a clock and dash mounted tachometer are clear, bright and shiny. Sitting inside, looking out, impresses even the critics critic. Nothing beats the shaker poking around waiting for auction. The seats, visors, carpets, tops and dash pad are all in good condition. The entire interior is worth boasting about. The engine and engine compartment are original. Nothing has been replaced. Even the air compressor is original. The engine has never been re -painted. Even the valve covers are original paint. All of the stickers are original. Opening the hood is a pleasure........Bragging rights are in order. The car runs and drives just like it should. It goes through he gears with ease. It is responsive and quick. There is no hesitation on take off and just a gentle touch on the accelerator is all that is necessary to spring into action. Seldom do you find a 1979 Trans Am with the right color, red....., T Tops, ice cold air, power windows, steering and brakes. This represents an excellent value.
