Vehicle Detail
This is an extremely rare car. Ella purchased this Chevelle on October 13th, 1966 right here in Oregon. I still have older contact information for her. She bought the car for her son. It was ordered the way he wanted it. Factory 275HP 327-V8 with M-21 Muncie 4 speed manual transmission and bench seat interior. He was in the Army at that time and unfortunately didn't make it home. Similar stories are true today when it comes to our armed services personal. I guess we haven't come that far in 40 years. The Chevelle sat relatively dormant through the early 1980's and was really just used as a spare vehicle. There has been a total of 3 owners since late 1966. The original owners manual and Protect-O-Plate are still located in the glove box.I will have trouble letting go of this car. As a lifetime enthusiast and 25 year collector of classic cars I have deep appreciation for vehicles that have retained much of their originality. I'm especially passionate about cars that have spent their lives here in the Northwest just as I have. With only a few exceptions, this Chevelle looks almost exactly as it did 44 years ago. One closed-door repaint was applied 20+ years ago. She is rust-free. The interior is outstanding and the drivetrain is excellent. Even if I said nothing more you'd be able to form a clear impression for yourself after the first couple of photos. For those that prefer more details, here they are:The body is in very nice condition with all originals panels in-place. My explorations of the car have found no rust issues, past or present. Undersides are also 100% rock-solid and free of any patch work or repairs of any kind. Body panel fit, gaps and alignment are very nice. All chrome, stainless trim and both bumpers are in nice original condition with minor flaws. There is a re-chromed front bumper on currently (because I had one) but the original is in very nice shape. All glass is very nice. As I stated previously, she received 1 repaint approximately 20 years ago. This was done in her original color of Madeira Maroon. To me, the color appears slightly lighter than the original but just slightly. The door jambs still wear their original paint and they are gorgeous. The repaint performed was a good mid-range job at the time. Tiny flaws are easy to find on close inspection. Don't get me wrong, the car shows and presents itself extremely well but imperfections can be seen under close scrutiny. Due to the unique history of the car I would never repaint it. Compliments are non-stop any time I let the public see her. She is rarer than most Super Sports out there. A beautiful car from every angle. The interior is amazing. There are no excuses to make. The seats, door panels, carpet, headliner and dashboard are in impressive condition. The interior chrome trim items are also in excellent condition. The original shifter with reverse lock-out is still in-place. The steering wheel, radio and heater controls are very nice. All lights, gauges, heater, wipers, horn and even the original AM radio are all functioning. Open the glove box door and that light comes on. All windows roll up and down like new. One look inside and the condition is obvious. The original #'s matching 327 runs flawlessly. Engine code EA designates 275hp for manual transmission application. She starts easily every time even after sitting ignored in the garage for extended periods. Acceleration is crisp and performance is impressive. The Muncie wide ratio 4 speed transmission operates and shifts perfectly. This car has the smoothest shift linkage I've ever touched. There is no substitute for original. The aftermarket linkages are terrible and impossible to adjust. Every gear position on this car is definite and easy to find. Just lift the T-handle and reverse is right there. The original 10-bolt rear end with 3:08 gearing is church quiet. The power steering and correct dual piston power DISC brakes make driving this car an absolute joy. Front suspension is tight and sound. I just had the exhaust system replaced. She has a perfect and authentic 1960's tone. The Firestone bias-ply tires are about 25 years old but in excellent condition. No age cracks or flat spots. Bottom line: She can be driven anywhere without concern. Please don't send a question regarding whether or not she is capable of making a long trip. Of course she is, but only a dumbo would put this car in harms way. Too many variables could occur. Transport is inexpernsive and safer. In closing, she is mechanically very sound.I will make a few brief comments under some of the upcoming photos. All of my eBay experiences have been enjoyable over the years as I've sold members of my collection. I'm grateful for the compliments I've received. My opinions have guided me well and I stand behind them but please keep in mind that these are my personal opinions and observations and they may differ from your own. I welcome showing my Chevelle in person to anyone with genuine interest. I live very near the Portland Oregon Airport and would gladly pick you up. There are about 100 photos to view and I apologize if they start looking similar and get dizzy scrolling through them. Each photo shows the car clearly and accurately. It is my intention to make this as close to you seeing and touching the car for yourself as possible. Feel free to click on the "ask a question" link here in the auction and I will respond to all polite questions. Phone calls are great too. My number is 503-887-1231 and calls between 8AM and 9PM Pacific time are just fine. My auction runs for 7 days and is scheduled to end on Tuesday evening, the 23rd of August at 8PM Pacific. I reserve the right to end my auction early in the event I accept a genuine offer and the car becomes no longer available. PLEASE, read my terms of sale located near the bottom of this screen. I'm a reasonable person but I will not bend on these basic terms unless previously discussed during the auction. A little communication goes a long way. NO RESERVE AUCTION I did not set a reserve price on my Chevelle. All that I ask in return is for your bids to be real and your intent to purchase be sincere. I took every picture you're about to see the day before this auction started. No photo has been altered or enhanced in any way. This is my car and these pictures are true to her in-person appearance. Thanks for your time, DAVE Unless she stays here in Oregon, I will be keeping the original license plates. Current plates and registration will be provided. I might be flexible on this but it's my intention to use these vintage plates on another member of my collection. There is a small rock chip in the windshield. It's the kind that will not develope into a crack but I wanted to mention it. All 4 original T-3 headlights. This pimple is located behind the drivers side rear tire near the wheel lip molding. It is the size of a #2 pencil eraser. I took this picture with me in the reflection with 2 leafs on the ground to show that the paint does hold a shine. These original Chevrolet hubcaps are very rare and in excellent condition. Scratch located on right front fender near 327 emblem. The paint lifted in this small area between the trunk lid and rear window shortly after being painted 20 years ago. It didn't adhere to the primer for some reason. This is NOT rust and has remained unchanged. All dashboard brightwork is beautiful. Original, day-one T-handle reverse lockout shifter. Total mileage traveled is 124,595. Original window rubbers and felts still in place. NO alterations to original wiring. The original AM radio tunes in stations perfectly. This is the only radio/stereo the car has ever had. The trunk is solid and in very nice shape. At my time of purchase it was my intention to completely rebuild the original 327. It ran extremely well but had been un-used for many years. I removed it and began to take it apart. One look inside the valve covers and intake convinced me to put her back together! The insides were amazingly clean. New tune-up parts were installed as well as a carburetor rebuild. The motor runs superbly. No ticks, misses or leaks. One of the finest running small-blocks I've ever owned. While I had everything on a stand I correctly detailed the engine and it's components. The engine compartment itself was already impressive in it's original condition so all I did was light cleaning. The only real liberty I took was upgrading the valve covers for cosmetic purposes. I still have the originals, of course. Under the hood is nothing short of outstanding. I upgraded the power steering box to a close ratio unit. Steering is much more responsive than the factory loosey-goosey style. Lighly undercoated when new. NO rust or patch-work of any kind. We don't salt our roads here in Oregon. My Chevelle has never been exposed to salted roads or harsh chemical de-icers. The undersides are completely original and rust-free. The numbers I researched on the transmission came up as Muncie M21, wide ratio, 1967 Chevelle. Engine block stampings located on front pad. F070IEA. Decodes as: 1967 Chevelle, manual transmission application, 327-V8, 275hp. Heads are also correct. Terms of Sale: 44yr old vehicle being sold AS-IS: Please read and agree with the following: I have described my car honestly and to the best of my ability based on 25 years of owning and driving classic cars. I have 100% faith in the drivability of this car and to my knowledge everything is in excellent working order per my written description above. I have free and clear Oregon title in my possession. I would drive this car anywhere but she is 44 years old and routine service and repairs should be expected. If you are not comfortable with a sight-unseen purchase, please come see the car for yourself or have an independent inspection performed PRIOR to bidding. I will not be responsible for the decisions of others. I would appreciate the winning bidder contacting me immediately upon end of auction just so the lines of communication are opened. My number is 503-887-1231. A $1000.00 deposit is due within 48 hours of auction ending preferably through PayPal just so we are both protected. Wire transfers and verifiable cashier checks are also acceptable. I'm an easy going person so if you need to make special financial arrangements just let me know BEFORE you bid and I'll try to help. I have been with the same bank here in Portland for over 9 years and the Management staff knows me. You are welcome to contact them for your own security if you like. The remaining balance is due within 7 calendar days of auction end in the form of secure funds. Some banks and credit unions do not finance vehicles of this vintage. Make sure if you are financing that your financial institution accepts the year and value of this vehicle before bidding. Please have your method of payment arranged prior to auction ending. TRANSPORT - SHIPPING I am happy to be an active and hands-on part of this process from start to finish but the buyer is ultimately responsible for pickup or shipping of this vehicle and any pre-purchase inspections need to be done BEFORE auction ending. If you wish to have it shipped using a service, I will gladly assist in loading and be present for the transport condition form and other reasonable help. Locating a transporter is the buyers responsibility but I can make recommendations and share the relationships I've built. Vehicle transport has become very reasonable. I personally use a privately owned trucking company. They have handled my transport needs perfectly for the last 4 years with careful handling, excellent rates and fast service even all the way to the East Coast. Dependable Auto Shippers (D.A.S.) is a transporter that eBay recommends and my experiences with them were just fine. My location zip code is 97214. Coast-to-Coast transport is around $1500.00 and even less the closer you are to Oregon. Shipping to Australia, Europe and other Countries has also become affordable and easy for me to arrange. If you are outside of the United States or Canada, you MUST contact me BEFORE bidding. If you are an eBay member with negative history or have a (0) or low transaction score, I need to hear from you just to verify your sincerity and accept your bids as genuine. We all started from (0) and I'm happy to give a leg up. I reserve the right to cancel bids for these reasons. Communication is all I ask. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time if the vehicle is no longer available or otherwise SOLD. On Aug-18-11 at 10:44:28 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional information provided August 18th, 2011Upon doing further research myself and with the help of some fellow eBayers and Chevelle "Guru's" I have verified that the transmission is NOT the original unit. It is, however, per the clear casting #'s, a correct 1967 Muncie M-21 wide ratio 4 speed with all factory linkage, shifter, etc.I am unaware of when this change took place but it had to be many, many years ago.The 275hp 327 is the 100% born with, day-one original engine with matching stampings on the warranty card.
