Vehicle Detail
When is the last time you saw one of these in person? The 1978 Chrysler LeBaron Town and Country was the first year that Chrysler downsized its wood-paneled wagon into a reasonable, mid-sized package from the gargantuan boat of the 70's. This handsome body style only lasted a few years before it was down-sized again into the cheap, K-car platform. They were never seen in abundance when they were new, and they are getting scarcer all the time. Total production of all three years was only around 50,000. These cars are somewhat unique and have a special following. You know who you are! I bought this car five years ago from the estate of an elderly couple who hadn't driven it in years. The odometer shows just under 35,000 miles, and their son believed this to be the true mileage. Although I cannot guarantee that this is a low-mileage car, I also believe it to be true. The car wears its original paint and still has the factory paint marks in jambs and in the engine bay. This car drives like new and is very tight and responsive. I would not be afraid to drive it anywhere. At highway speeds it is straight and quiet, and has no problems keeping pace. I am selling it because I have had my fun with it and am ready to focus on other projects. The Good: This is a highly optioned car. There are only a couple of options that it doesn't have. 318-V8 Chrysler's work horse and very reliable. Has a new electronic computer ignition, though the lean burn system was working (sort of) and could be restored. Leather seats Power seats Power Windows Power Door Locks Cruise Control (working) Air Conditioning (unknown) Roof Rack Things done recently: Newer Electronic Ignition Rebuilt Carbuerator Tuned-up Front Brakes redone Fuel Pump Interior Lamp lenses (commonly missing or melted) Hatch shocks (commonly fail over time) The Bad: At some point this car spent some time sitting in the western sun. There are some splits in the dash and some carpet fading in the back. The trim has faded on the top and is detaching at the bottom in many places (example in pictures). The trim is stable for the most part, but a little time spent on this would yield big results. Included with the sale is an NOS roll of wood panel decal that is more than enough to repair the rear section and do other repairs if needed. The air temperature lever is stuck on hot, so I never could confirm whether the A/C was working or not, but I would assume that it needs attention. I never drove the car in inclement weather so the heat / AC problems never bothered me. There is some dirt in the paint on the hood. (see pic) I couldn't get it clean, but I think a person good with paint would have no problem with it. The headliner cloth is starting to detach from the foam. This is typical of the late 70's. Eventually it should be replaced. The Ugly: In my opinion, there is no ugly with this car. It looks great and drives great too. BUT, as with all 30-plus-year-old cars, it has its share of nicks and dings and is not in perfect condition. I am selling this car AS-IS and there is no guarantee to its future mechanical performance. I have tried to be honest in its description and will answer any questions to the best of my ability.
