Vehicle Detail
This auction is for an entirely unique 1965 Chrysler CrownImperial. Please be sure and read theentire description of the vehicle and look at all of the pictures. There’s a ton of information to read and seehere. Feel free to contact me at anytimewith any questions. If you’re a GreenHornet or James Bond fan you’ll love this car. THE AUCTION I have listed this car for my neighbor who also happens tobe my doctor. I sold my car on eBay lastmonth and had a pleasant transaction so he asked if I could help him with thiscar. He purchased the car from anotherdoctor here in town about 25 years ago. We suspect that the previous owner was also the original owner. As you will see he was quite the eccentricguy. The car is located in Charleston,WV and can be inspected at any time. Ithas been garage stored since purchased 25 years ago. It has not been regularly started and drivenbut started and driven a few miles here and there nonetheless. You will note that the inspection stickerexpired in 1989. Due to the mileageindicated of 722, it will be sold as a “True Mileage Unknown” vehicle. I’m guessing it’s 100,722 and that’s why Ihave listed it that way. Please keep inmind that this is a 46 year old vehicle and is not in show condition. Also, it has been heavily modified withaftermarket instrumentation and other devices. In my opinion you could remove all of the installed extras and have adecent driver. A thorough fluid change and complete tune up would make this aweekend driver. I have set this up as a No Reserve listing with a $1,500.00starting bid. The highest bidder willown this car in the end. It is listedfor sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early should itsell locally. THE CAR EXTERIOR: The car has obviously been painted at somepoint in time over 25 years ago. Thepaint is in good condition and could probably be buffed out and brought up to anice shine. There are normal scrapes andbruises on the body but no dents with any significant intrusion. This car is built like a battleship and doesn’tdent easily anyway. There is no evidenceof any major body damage that has been repaired in the past. All of the panels appear to be original. There is no rust through on the car atall. That said, it’s entirely possiblethat some surface rust was repaired when it was painted years ago. There are no areas that need attention atpresent. The glass is all original andin good condition. The chrome is aboveaverage and in good condition. Theoriginal hub caps are intact. You willnotice that the exterior mirrors are from a Cadillac in the late 70s. Also, there are additional antennasinstalled, a rear window wiper and washer (wiper arm is off), headlamp washersand a security system key switch on the driver side fender. INTERIOR: Where do I start? The best thing to do is to carefully studythe pictures and wiring diagrams. Theoriginal interior is here and intact. Itmay be covered up with aftermarket devices and panels, but its here. The driver rear and passenger front windowsdo not roll down. Some of theaftermarket devices either do not work or are not compatible with today’ssystems. For example, the televisionpowers on but there is no reception since there are no analog signals anymore. The headliner is in great condition. Several aftermarket lamps have been installedalong with various gauges (see diagrams and pictures), switches, radios, CB’sand so on. You might have to call withquestions after looking at the pictures. *****I have a PDF file available of the diagram for all of the devices, switches, lights and other add ons but couldn't figure out how to incorporate into the listing. Please feel free to email me if you want a copy of it.***** ENGINE: The 413 engine is original and starts andruns. The mileage indicated is 722. That could be 100,722, 200,722 or so on. However, it looks like it may be 100722 fromthe appearance of the chrome, glass and other indicators of mileage. The valve pan gaskets appear to be seepingand dripping to the headers which cause the vehicle to smoke from the headerarea. There also sounds like there is aslight miss in the engine. I am not amechanic and make no guarantees as to the internal engine components. I have started the car several times anddriven it in excess of 40 miles in the past week or so. The battery (new) is drained nightly from oneof the installed devices pulling it down. There is a second battery in the trunk to run some of the devices. TRANSMISSION: The transmission shifts smoothly and allgears work properly. There is nogrinding or squealing noise from the transmission. ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONFound on varioussites on the internet. For informationpurposes only. Changes for 1965were largely confined to the front fascia and to trim, and replacement of thepush-button automatic transmission gear selection system with a moreconventional steering column-mounted shift lever. The split grille was gone, replaced by a large chromed crossbar and surround, and the headlights wereinset into the grill behind glass covers (similar to that year's Chrysler 300and New Yorker models) with etched horizontal lines imitating the grill. 100year old Claro Walnut trim was added to the interior. Production totaled18,409. It has not been inspected in over 20 yearsand I have no idea how road worthy it will be without addressing the gasketissue, inspecting the braking system and performing a thorough inspection of theengine. I’m not saying it doesn’t run, I’mjust saying I wouldn’t jump in and drive off on a trip without having itproperly inspected. I have attempted to describe this vehicle as accurately aspossible. Please view the pictures andcall with any questions at all – John 304-444-6907.On Aug-16-11 at 15:41:02 PDT, seller added the following information: My apologies for the original listing where the words ran together in some areas. Must have been a format issue when I typed it up. ******I noticed that there is in fact a small area of surface rust on the driver side rear roof support. It's right in the middle and about the size of a .50 piece. It appears as though something dinged it, loosened the paint, the paint flaked off and now there is surface rust. It's not bad and can easily be repaired before a re-paint.******* I have had numerous questions about the engine and drivability of the vehicle. There are several aftermarket parts installed on the engine - Mallory Ignition system, Holley Carbs and so on. There really is just too much to list about this car. Please call with any specific questions. As for driving it, I did this morning for a few miles to relocate it for shipping to the high bidder. Again, I would not drive it very far without a full inspection, tune up and fluid change.
