I am offering at this auction one 1983 VW Rabbit Diesel L model. The vehicle came factory equipped with a 1.6 liter non turbo diesel, factory AC and a 4 speed manual transmission. I purchased this car and also a 1982 Rabbit LS parts vehicle a few months ago with the intention of doing a complete restoration, however recent circumstances have prevented reaching that goal. The previous owner of the car used it occasionally for a number of years prior to my purchasing it. Some of the maint./ parts records from then is also included. I will try to accurately describe it's current condition. Please look closely at the photos for explanation of the descriptions listed below. Cons : Painted surfaces have some imperfections, scratches, chips, etc. Mirrors have blemishes in reflective coating Missing Backup light lens Cracked right side tailight reflector lens Driver's door handle missing chrome trim Two small rock chips in front windshield Rust area on back of both rear fender panels Rust spot at bottom right of rear hatch window Minor rust along bottom of front windshield Small dent in left front fender panel Tear in surface fabric in driver's upper left seat back Small hole in right rear seat bottom ( hard to see in pics) Fan switch operates on high only Upshift light switch need replacing Pros : New Parts : 5 qts motor oil Oil filter Fuel filter Antifreeze Air filter Battery Wiper blades Headlights Water pump / Ac belt Alternator belt Oil pressure sending unit Several coolant hoses Glow plugs Camshaft seal Valve cover gasket set Timing Belt Timing belt Idler pulley Clutch plate Pressure plate Release bearing Water pump / gaskets Other items of note : Dash has no cracks Radio / clock, etc. works Air Cond. blows cold (charged with 134a) Good headliner Carpet is pretty good (some staining) Original Rabbit floor mats Rear defroster works properly Wipers work correctly Trailer hitch / ball / wire harness Complete spare, jack, tools Locking fuel cap Tire tread at 80% Overall upholstery good condition Oil pressure at idle warm is 31 psi No oil leaks No fluid leaks Transmission works great (no noises) Steering is good Brakes are operational E brake holds properly Shock towers are free of rust Engine starts and runs well Good compression and oil pressure for mileage Compression test in order (451-446-453-442 psi) Exhaust system functional No known fuel leaks Includes Bentley shop manual in good shape Various recpts. and documents Average: 37 mpg city / 45 mpg highway Also included : 2 wooden crates ( 4' x 4' x 2' ) Crate 1 : Radiator componets, steering wheel & column, front rotor assy., struts, rear shocks, window glass set, door componets, complete heater and AC assy. signal lenses, whole car wiring harness, brake & clutch pedals, cables, fasteners, clips, retainers, master cylinder, complete rear axle, set of 4 wheels / good tires and many other items from parts car in useable shape. Crate 2 : Operational 4 spd transmission, clutch assy. driveshafts, and complete set of useable cleaned engine componets including injection parts. Please remember that this is a 28 year old vehicle which does show it's age. I would however consider it very a good daily driver. It is therefore sold as is with no warranty offered or implied. I have a clean Texas blue title in my possession. The vehicle is does not have curent registration or state inspection. Buyer is responsible for pick or shipping.
