Vehicle Detail

1976 Super Scirocco - All Original - Ideal & Unique Restoration Candidate CLEAR TITLE LOW RESERVE This isn't just any Scirocco, it's an early car, which are rare. Making it even more obscure as this is a 1976 1/2 Super Scirocco. Halfway through 76 VW added fuel injection to the Scirocco, making it the first water cooled VW with F.I. They only made 2000- 2500 of these cars which were all metallic brown with tan interior, They also had opening wing windows in the doors, a unique steering wheel, and a few other extras. Here's a link to the 1976 Road Test: http://www.a2resource.com/brochures/Early/76superscirocco/76superscirocco.html# DESCRIPTION: 1976.5 Brown with tan interior Super Scirocco. Original 1.6l with four speed transmission. 74,000 miles on it. This car came to me about six months ago from downstate NY. It had been stored in a garage from 1985 until I got it last year. (twenty five years of no sunlight!) I bought it with the intention of a full factory restoration, but reality hit and I just don't have the time or a nice place to store the car until I have the time to restore it. I'll try to list everything about the car below....the pictures will do most of the talking. Link to photos: http://s469.photobucket.com/albums/rr56/vwnut84/Gloria/. Interior: Due to it's mostly indoor life, the interior of this car is amazing. The exceptions to this are the drivers seat has some wear on the outer backrest bolster, and two light cigarette burns on the bottom of the seat. Dash is in amazing condition, as well as the headliner. Everything inside is complete down to the correct curved heater control levers. Rear parcel shelf has some fading on it, but the straps to hold it up are there and in good shape. Even still has the original Blaupunkt radio with center dash speaker (and it works). Exterior: From sitting in storage the car has a handful of dings on the roof from people putting things on it. The passengers side quarter panel has a nice sized dent in it. All of the exterior trim is there and in good shape. Exceptions to this are some of the bumper caps, left front marker lens, and left side tail light (another one is included). The car appears to have been in a fender bender on the right side at some point in it's life, but it seems to be sheet metal only. All the panels on the front line up nice and straight. Rust: One of two main reasons I wanted to pursue this car for a project was the solidity of the car, and the complete nature of it, however it does have some rust. The worst spot is the drivers side floor, under the front seat cross member. The passengers side rocker has a little near the rear wheel well. Both front fenders will need to be replaced, but the rust never got to the uni body, it seems to be contained to the fenders. The correct OEM fenders are can usually be found on eBay. All of the important areas have no rust; rear trailing arm mountings, front control arm mountings, strut towers etc. Mechanicals: When I first got it, I went through and proceeded to see what it would need just to get it running. I took the sending unit out to see how the tank looked and it's nasty. It will need a new tank, sending unit and a pump at the least. The tank got nasty from the braided outlet line disintegrating and falling apart sometime in the car's storage. The fuel pump mount is also gone. The engine turns over strong, but I did not do a compression test. Before I even attempted that I did drain the old oil out and put a new filter on it as to not toast the bearings and circulate the old acidic engine oil through it. Everything is there, nothing appears to be missing. So, overall this is a complete '76 that needs a loving home to bring her back to glory. Above all, I want to see this car go to a good home. Car is located in New York State in Kingston.
