Vehicle Detail

1965 IMPALA ** 396 TURBO JET BIG BLOCK SAME OWNER FOR FORTY YEARS HISTORY OF CHEVROLET Chevrolet Motor Company was incorporated on November 3, 1911 and for much of its history since, claimed the honor of "USA - #1" . The most popular name plate in the land. One hundred years have come and gone. This is the celebration year for Chevrolet. as collectors increase their pace adding to their collections. Ironically, the phenomenal success enjoyed by Chevrolet was not enjoyed by its founders, William Crapo "Billy" Durant, the prominent carriage builder and one time cigar salesman. He not only started Chevrolet but General Motors as well. He was forced out of both companies, lost his fortune and died in meager obscurity in 1947. He was 86, alone and desperate. The company's namesake, Louis Joseph Chevrolet, was born in LaChaux-de-Fonds Switzerland on Christmas day 1878. He grew up in France. His family was so poor he received little formal education. He worked at a wine cellar, then taught himself to repair motor bikes and eventually became an automobile mechanic. He arrived in the United States in 1900 and started racing five years later. The dare devil racer and mechanic left the company less than two years after production began. He was a complete failure and failed at everything else and worked as a line mechanic from 1934 to 1938 when his health failed. He passed away June 6. 1941 and was buried in Indianapolis, home of the Indy 500, the site of his greatest racing victories. The history of this great car has more color than a city of neon lights. Chevrolet was little more than a pieced together prototype built by men of vision and big dreams. Somehow Chevrolet survived turmoil, wars, the Great Depression and became the largest and most popular motor car in the world. The famous "Bow Tie" emblem was inspired by the wall paper pattern in Billy Durant's hotel room. He gave it all and lost it all. There are many more chapters just as amazing. Even though Henry Ford had started production 10 years earlier, few realize Chevy's little 490 was stiff competition in the early years. Chevy even out sold Ford in 1927. Chevy's cast of colorful characters reads like a soap opera. Nearly every one has memories of a Chevy in their past...........A car you vacationed in, the car you learned to drive in or the car you fell in love in at a Drive In or perhaps the car you took to the prom----------so many stories. Chevrolet, has been as much a part of Americana as Baseball, hot dogs and apple pie. ENJOY LOOKING AT THE RICH HISTOY OF YET ANOTHER CHEVROLET, an UNUSUAL CLASSIC.....A TURBO-JET BIG BLOCK IMPALA SEDAN. THIS CHEVROLET This was a one owner vehicle, built, delivered and owned in southern California and Arizona. It had the same owner for 40 years. It has an outstanding body and undercarriage. The interior is original, complete and excellent. The paint is brilliant and shows very well. The glass, chrome, trim, wheels and tires are very good to excellent. This is a highly original car. This is an excellent example of a rare Big Block sedan. Chevy unwrapped a lush new car in 1958.....the Impala.....moving the car towards the mid price range. In 1965, the year of the car offered here, Chevy Impala ads were flashy and colorful. Holiday Magazine extolled the Impala for its "foam cushioned seats" and deep twisted carpets, new engines, transmissions and wide stance handling. Other ads stated the Impala pampers both the driver and the passengers. Not too much was said about an Impala sedan with a Turbo Jet 396 big Block, one of the reasons that make this a car to own and enjoy. It is a wonderful sleeper if there ever was one. Volumes could be written about this car. I will offer you my evaluations and opinions and a lot of close up pictures of this car showing it from every angle. However, pictures don't do it justice. It is impossible to show just how nice this car is. Most certainly it is just as nice in real life. After all these years, all of the factory seams are there. There are no sags in the body or doors. Every part of the body lines up and fits properly. We placed this car on an inspection ramp expecting the normal repairs and patched rockers and sheet metal. It was a good time when we found it to be a true survivor, original and unmolested. It is 100% original. Even the sheet metal ends are all original. The whole under side is solid with no evidence of repair. Only the exhaust has been changed. As tempting as it was to refinish the Chevy orange cover, we left it as we found it. The whole bottom is dry. We found no leaks. The paint is very shiny and really an eye catcher. The body is straight as an arrow. It is the only color for this car. The blue interior meets everyone’s approval; a wonderful combination. The chrome bumpers gleam. There is no discoloration or any other flaws. All of the trim is rust free and in very good to excellent condition. The door handles show like new. All of the grill and lights are excellent also. All of the lights work. even the interior light.I The original wheel covers go with the car. They are in very good condition. Also included are the Chevy wires shown on the car. Looking down the sides, the car is arrow straight. It is a thrill to open the hood and watch a crowd gather. The engine and engine compartment......... . you just do not find many like this. They are perfectly clean. There are no scratches or gray areas. Nothing needs attention. It is just as nice as the exterior. The big block rests quietly and is completely ready to spring into action no matter if it is a cruise, a big surprise at a light,a road trip in air conditioned comfort or just showing off at a car show. The engine is powerful and runs like new. It shifts through the gears just like it should. The brakes stop quickly with no pull or chatter. The steering is tight. The car goes down the road at any speed and will satisfy any driver. The ride is very smooth. I found no issues of any kind. The tires are close to new, as is the exhaust. Speaking of the exhaust I sometimes leave the windows open while driving, instead of using the air conditioning, just to listen to it. It seems to be a bit noisy and quiet at the same time; a cool sound.....just right. The interior is spotless. It is just as nice as it was many years ago. The seats just do not show normal wear. There are no tears or discoloration. The dash is all bright and shiny. The visors are like new as is the headliner. The carpets were protected by the original Chevy floor mats. They are in amazing condition also. The lighter has not been used.. The steering wheel is one of the first things I look at. Its condition speaks for the rest of the car......this one, almost like new. All of this interior needs zero attention. This car has had excellent care. Who else would take pictures of it for so many years? The original sales contract, application for title and dealer write up, operating instructions for the Turbo-Jet and the Arizona plate go with the car. Also, The PROTECT-O-PLATE, worth its weight in gold. Even the door and ignition keys are original. There are also pictures of the original owner two years before she bought this 65 Impala, her business with the car out front, family with the car and a picture of her and the car as they both look today. TRIM TAG INFORMATION: Style 65 – 16469 Body: BT 16168 Trim: 842 CC Paint: 06A C60 Just a bit more. This is quite a car, different, rich in its history and something almost no one else has. I found it to be rewarding as it draws more attention than cars costing a whole lot more. It is, and with proper care always will be, the talk of the town. It is ready made for the Prom, night club, golf club, any black tie event, theater, or just a cruise or the open road............. I was treated like Royalty last week when I took my family to the airport as they embarked on a vacation in the Florida keys. Parking in the unloading zone, an instant crowd gathered including attendants and even a Police officer. Extra time was allowed as pictures were taken and questions were answered. It was like pulling up in an escorted Bentley. Want something different, excellent and something no one else has consider owning this Chevy. It is a wonderful motor car, an excellent value.
