Vehicle Detail
Up for sale here is my beloved 1988 BMW K100 motorcycle. One of my best friends bought it new, and I bought it from him seven years ago. It is functionally 100%, on good tires and runs like a sewing machine, with all features fully operational (except the radio which operates iffy, I think it needs attention, perhaps only loose wiring.) Cosmetically I give it an 8.5, because I have managed to set it down on both sides in parking lots, resulting in some scuffs and scratches (see photos, not that bad really.) Just a few weeks ago I had the original vinyl seat upholstery replaced with matching leather, and it came out fantastic. Extras include dealer BMW heated grips (a great option!), dorky but very effective rear blue running lights, a throttle lock, an original BMW charger with the mating power plug that goes right into the dash, and aftermarket compass, an expandable tank bag with map window, and soft luggage for the removable bags and trunk. I have the keys for the bags, the security code for the radio, actually all the paperwork and books that came with it, and a Hayes maintenance manual. I also have a few parts-type things, spare air filter, a pint of body paint from when I replaced one of the side panels, an oil filter wrench, etc. If my back was in better shape--the only reason I'm selling it--I would pack up tomorrow and ride to California and back. This is a well maintained machine, you will be very pleased. PS for the BMW K-series newbies: Do a web search on "BMW motorcycle smoke" before you come to pick it up. All these K bikes have the cylinders to the left, so that, especially when on the side stand, a bit of oil will occasionally get into the chambers making it smoke for a minute after starting. Every bike in this series did this from the day they left the factory; owners consider it a feature, not a bug. The first time it happened to me I thought I had purchased a bike with blown oil rings, until my buddy reassured me and had me look it up on line. The amount of oil is minute and does not affect the oil level.
