Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a 1997 Honda Valkyrie Tourer in outstanding, low mileage (16,3XX) condition. I purchased this bike about a year ago from a Honda dealership, who had taken it in from the original owner who apparently was more of a collector than a rider, as it had only 11,000 miles on it. The bike was in outstanding condition and loaded with accessories, and since then I made it even better. This is a 100% garage kept bike that has never been down. Please note that while I have not set a Buy It Now price (to avoid the auction being ended by a non-serious bidder), I will entertain Buy It Now offers. Please look at the photos carefully, and you will see the truly exceptional condition of this first year Valkyrie, which has been rumored or proven to be the year that the Valkyrie possessed the most horsepower in its 8-year run (1997 – 2003). If you are reading this you are likely familiar with the Valkyrie, and maybe have even ridden one, as they are truly an amazing motorcycle…power, smoothness, handling and reliability beyond compare in any one machine. I have only decided to sell it as I have owned several motorcycles of all types in my life, and want to sample several more. When I purchased the motorcycle it had been fully serviced at the dealership and ran flawlessly. It starts immediately and runs perfectly throughout the powerband, no issues whatsoever. The tires were replaced only a few thousand miles ago. The oil was changed just last month. The battery was replaced this spring. The controls are butter smooth, and the throttle returns easily to rest. All electricals work. In fact, everything works, nothing needs attention. Cosmetically the bike is outstanding, easily a 9 of 10. One slight scratch on the rear fender near the rear seat bolt (which cannot be seen when the passenger seat is on, a plastic plug on the front fender to fill a drill hole and a very slight crease in the lower portion of the gas cap. I am also including a tube of color-matched touch-up paint (Pearl Sonoma Green). I cleaned this bike from top to bottom after nearly every ride, and it shows it. Check out the photos I included of normally dirty areas such as under the bike’s swingarm or the wheels, it is very, very clean, almost new bike showroom clean, yes, I wiped all of those hard-to-reach areas by hand, every time. Note, the mirrors that are shown are aftermarket versions that are smaller than the factory mirrors. I also have the larger factory mirrors and will swap them as I prefer to keep the smaller ones. Please note that this bike is the factory Tourer model, with factory matched OE hard saddlebags that are in the same condition as the rest of bike, outstanding condition with no scratches. I have two sets of keys and they match the saddlebag locks. I removed the bags when I purchased the bike as I didn’t need to use them, but they easily bolt on in less than 30 minutes. I recently purchased a special (and now discontinued) installation bolt set that allows the bags to be removed and re-installed in 10 minutes or less, and these are also included. Personally I like the “stripped down” look, so I also included a few photos with the passenger seat and backrest removed, something that only takes 2 minutes to do. It has a multitude of accessories, listed here and starting from the front of the bike. - Cobra light bar, a rare and desirable accessory that also improves safety, appearance and the bikes looks - New front lowers, custom made from a Valkyrie bracket and using Vulcan 2000 lowers (because they look and function better). These lowers make a significant difference in ride comfort. - New Cee Bailey stock height replacement windshield, only a few months old - Front fender trim and protector - Chrome handlebar risers, which move the handlebars further to the rear, adding to riding comfort. Also included is chrome handlebar riser cover. - Chrome hand levers, very smooth to the touch and look great. - New rider and passenger seat from the 2000-up model, much more comfortable than the seat that was used on the 1997-1999 models. - New footpeg lowering brackets, which moves the footpegs forward 1 inch and down 1 inch, greatly improving comfort. - New rider footpegs, larger and more comfortable than stock. - Larger brake pedal cover, easily removed (not currently on the bike) - New passenger footpegs, custom designed, larger and more comfortable than stock. - Rear fender trim and protector - New quick-detach passenger backrest, easily one of the coolest and rarest accessories on the bike. In less than 10 seconds the passenger backrest can be removed, and then reinstalled. This item alone is a $350 accessory. - Triple-tip exhaust tips, a stylish, rare and now discontinued Hondaline accessory. To help showcase the bike I also shot a video, seen at the link below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=accZHllYGPM The bike is located in Orange County, CA, about 30 minutes south of Los Angeles, and can been seen by local interested parties. No test rides without cash and a valid motorcycle license in hand. I have clean title and registration is current. I’m confident this bike could be ridden across the country, but it is being sold with no warranty whatsoever. If the purchaser is out of state and needs shipping, I can be here when the carrier comes by to pick it up, but all other arrangements must be made by the purchaser. I have sold several motorcycles on eBay and my record is spotless. This bike falls into the same category that helped to achieve that record, a low-mileage, excellent condition example not easily found among used bikes. A Valkyrie Tourer in this condition and with these accessories likely won’t be seen for awhile, if ever. The winning bidder is required to deposit $500 (non-refundable) via PayPal within 24 hours of auction end. Remainder of the payment must be in cash or bank wire transfer in one week, no cashier’s checks or other form of payment. If you cannot meet these terms please do not bid. If you have no eBay feedback or poor feedback you should contact me so I can measure your seriousness in placing a bid, as I may cancel it unless I feel you are able to follow through. I encourage questions from all interested bidders, so feel free to contact me. The bike is also listed locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction at any time should it sell via another method. Thanks for looking at this auction. Should you decide to bid, good luck! On Jul-19-11 at 21:34:43 PDT, seller added the following information: I set this auction up to run 10 days to help assure a large number of potential bidders would see it. Since the auction started I've been contacted by several folks with good questions or just comments on the bike. I don't want the auction to fail to find a buyer the first time around, so based on the current high bid I have decided to lower my reserve and announce it. My reserve was previously set at $7,350, but I am lowering it to $6,500. This should help to assure the auction will end successfully, even though it may have anyway at $7,350. Please do not bid above $6,500 unless you can follow-through on the purchase, which is a $500 PayPal deposit within 24 hours and the remainder via bank wire transfer or cash in one week. For anyone flying in I would be happy to pick you up at the airport. As of Tuesday, 7/19, the auction had 77 "watchers", so among those 77 may be folks that are seriously interested. I have had some offers but they were lower than what I would accept. If anyone is hanging back and wants to make an offer over $6,500 I will consider it, and will end the auction if I accept it. I'll see if any offers come in over the next few days and consider them individually, otherwise I'll let the auction continue until it ends Sunday evening. I do appreciate all of the interest in the bike, it's a great machine and exactly as I portrayed it in pictures and text. No disappointments with this Valkyrie. Once again, don't hesitate to contact me with any questions, I'll do my best to get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks and good luck! On Jul-23-11 at 11:44:56 PDT, seller added the following information: To show a picture of the bike with the bags I went ahead and re-installed them today. I also installed the factory mirrors.
