Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is my 1989 GMC S15 Jimmy 350 Project Vehicle. This vehicle is UNFINISHED and would need to be TOWED, however all of the major work has been completed. I am sorry to see this vehicle go, but I started it when I was younger, and now have family obligations and do no see myself having the time or money to finish it anytime soon. This vehicle came equipped with a 4.3 liter TBI motor and an automatic transmission. I swapped those out for a 350 TBI and a NV3500 5 Speed Manual transmission (hard to come by). The motor began with a 350 4 bolt main block from a 1978 Chevy truck. It was freshly rebuilt as follows: -350 4 bolt main bored .040 over and rebuilt. -Comp Cams 12-249-4 (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-12-249-4/) -Pro Topline Vortec Heads 906 casting (info about them here: http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/tech-general-engine/347709-pro-topline-vortec-vs.html) -GM TBI to Vortec aluminum intake part number 12496821 (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NAL-12496821/) which was bored to 50mm holes to match bigger Throttle Body -Modified TBI unit, bored to 50mm by xtremefi (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GM-TBI-50mm-high-flow-t-body-700cfm-Truck-SUV-Z28-TA-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem35b3103fcfQQitemZ230637453263QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_2494wt_958) Other additions or replacements to the truck include -Edelbrock IAS performance shocks all around (2 front were installed, 2 back are on a shelf in the garage) -Ford Taurus High Flow electric engine fan -Custom TBI chip burned for this specific combination by http://www.tbichips.com -Brand new exhaust system, including patriot headers, catalytic converter, and muffler. The system was professionally put together locally. -Probably many more extras that I've forgotten about. I've been working on this a long time and have forgotten all the little things over the years. Now for the bad. This vehicle will start and idle with no problem. However, it does not run well. It backfires out of the TBI. I have gone over every possibility I can think of, but have not yet isolated the problem. The fuel pressure is set at 14psi, compression is good and valve lash is set correctly (as would be expected with a freshly rebuilt motor). I have come to the conclusion that the problem is an intermittent electrical or ignition problem, possibly something as simple as a bad ground. I say intermittent because there have been times that it would run just fine with absolutely no hesitation and no backfire. The other thing that needs to be mentioned is that it will eventually need a new oil pan. During my installation of the transmission a hole was punched into the oil pan. I patched it with epoxy putty and RTV at the time just so I could do my experimenting with getting it to run properly and then change out the pan further down the line. All of the 4x4 components are in place, however in order to make it functional you will need to hook up the vacuum hoses and the front driveshaft. The other bad thing that needs to be mentioned is the body. After I finished the swap on this truck and did not have time to trouble shoot the backfiring issue, I let it sit outside for a few years. Because of this, there is a fair amount of rot in the rocker panels. The only real solution would be to weld new panels in place. I purchased brand new replacement panels, but never put them on. They will be included with this auction. I originally had SS braided fuel hose hooked up, but because the truck sat for so long with no gas going through them, they rotted as well. I replaced them with ordinary black FI hose recently just to see how well the truck would fire up and run before I sold it. There is a large hole (shown in the picture) behind the drivers side back wheel. I do not have a panel to include for that. Other than that, the truck would need a paint job and a new fender (decent size dent on the passenger side). I've described this truck the best that I can. If you have any questions about anything that I have not mentioned, please feel free to contact me and I will answer as best as I can. Like I said, I am sorry to see this truck go, it was always my intention to finish it. I've got a LARGE amount of money tied into it and I know I'll never see that back. But I just don't have the time in the near future to put into it, and could use the money right now. I would MUCH rather see this truck go as one piece, there are a lot of specialty parts on it just for this swap (the mounts, radiator, exhaust, ect.) however if I do not sell it for a reasonable price, I will part it out for the motor and trans and sell the rest for scrap as I know the price of scrap is high right now. I feel that the buy it now is a very fair price considering that the motor itself has less than 200 miles on it and cost more than twice that to have built. As stated before, this truck will have to be TOWED to your destination. If you live within a 200 mile radius, I MAY be able to arrange delivery for an additional fee, you will have to contact me before hand to make arrangements though. I need $500 via paypal within 48 hours of auction's end, and the rest is due at pickup, which must be within 1 week of auction's end.
