Vehicle Detail
1977 TRIUMPH SPITFIRE IV * TOP ROADSTER ! TWO TOPS – EXCEPTIONAL CAR HISTORY OF TRIUMPH AND SPITFIRE Triumph introduced America to a new kind of sports car. Long before this event, bicycles came first, in 1887. Those led to motorcycles and then to a three wheeled motor car in 1903. The first four wheel vehicle was produced on 1923. Roadsters were introduced in the late 30's. Triumph Glorias were particularly handsome and set the stage for a bright future. By the mid 50's Triumph was ready to make a name as a sports car manufacturer. The world was ready, America was ready for something new and different. The first one that came to America was the clamshell-fendered TR 2, followed by the TR3 in 1955. They were light, open topped, low to the ground and sporty compared to the giant, lumbering Detroit iron of the day. They were a completely different way to drive and see the world. The open air, low slung sports cars were a hit. They were a blast to drive and helped us understand things like handling and the need for string-backed driving gloves. 1962 was a great year for Triumph. It was the year they created one of the best-selling sports cars of all time....the Triumph Spitfire. It heralded a new beginning for sports car drivers. It was nimble and agile, yet willing and exciting to drive. Razor-edge styling and a true sports car walked hand in hand. It was exciting to look at coming or going or standing still. Its swing-forward front end encompassed the hood and fenders leaving easy access for quick service as it drew attention and comment. The car looked much more expensive than it actually was. The curvy, sexy body by Michelotti was stunning to say the least. Then in 1967 a detachable hardtop was offered as an option. Few were sold making cars with this option rare and most desirable today. The top gives the car an aggressive and expensive look adding glamor to these wonderful motor cars. THIS TRIUMPH SPITFIRE IV The Spitfire offered here is tight and true. It runs, handles and drives just like it should. It goes through the gears effortlessly and sails along at highway speeds taking on road bumps without wander, shake or rattle. An awesome motorcar. It's a great Rally driving experience around town as it darts in and out of traffic heading for the open road. The car has zero rust and has been well cared for. It is in excellent condition inside and outside, underside and topside. I will do my best to offer my opinions, comments, observations and evaluations showing the car from all angles. The floors and frame are original and solid. The exterior is straight. The paint is very deep and very shiny. Everything fits properly. All of the seams line up and fit properly. The entire fit and finish is very good to excellent. The deep finish with the black interior draws like a magnet. The soft top is in good condition and fits well. It goes up and down nicely. A day cover and boot go with the car. They both look like new. All the rubber seals are new giving the car a fresh clean look. The odometer reads 84,000 and believed to be accurate. The car sure looks the part. The tires are new. The interior is in great condition. The dash and all of the gauges are clean and clear. The door pads , visors, seats and carpets are clean, maintained and very good to excellent. The seats are supportive and very comfortable. I believe the entire interior to be original. Sitting behind the wheel or the passenger seat is an experience. You are surrounded by appointments known only to more expensive cars. No one has ever smoked in this car. The ash tray and lighter are just like new. The odometer reads just 84,000 miles. The original owners manual is included and is in good condition. When you open the bonnet the fun starts. A crowd gathers. You will find a manicured engine and engine compartment. The swing-forward front end allows zero room for cover up. It shows much more than just the engine. Everything is exposed. Strongest critics will find the engine, tires, front end, brakes, springs and all surrounding areas to be fit and finished. The disc brakes are new. The engine, transmission, clutch and brakes are tight. The engine is responsive and quick as it moves smoothly through the gears. The dual horns are like a wake up call. This is a fun filled motor car. You will find the boot to be original and complete. Nothing is missing. It has no rust and solid as can be. The spare tire and jack are in place. The condition here reflects the condition of the entire car. This Spitfire is an excellent value. It is in top condition, has a wonderful color combination and is a pleasure to drive. It has the rare optional hardtop worth its weight in gold. When in place you have a completely different automobile. Suddenly, you are in the world of exotic expensive, rare sports cars. It is just eye popping. The top fits well as do the windows. The side windows are vented. When opened, they add to the already dynamite look. This fine motor car is well priced and easy to own. This is a first time offering. An exceptional value.
