Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is an excellent project that I hate to part with. I first saw this car in southwest Montana, not in the barn but behind the barn, about five years ago. I stopped, made my inquiry, and got the standard answer we all do from time to time, “the car belongs to our son and he is going to fix it up”. As we have also done many times I stopped the next four years and made the same inquiry and made them a standing offer. A few months back I got the call, the son needed money and was I still interested. As luck would have it I am deeply into another project and all discretionary funds are invested into that one. However out this way our word is good, so I went ahead and helped them out. I want very badly to restore the Dodge, the color combination and those body lines are awesome, however I know it will be at least a couple years and I don’t want it to set out in another hot Montana summer and cold winter. The car does run; how far and how long remains to be seen. Last year I got it started but quickly shut it off before any fuel could get from the tank to the carburetor. The first thing I do on these old projects is remove, clean and recoat the gas tank. I was told the car had the radiator drained and stable put in the tank. However you should still refurbish the tank as there is 52 years of stuff in the bottom of it. The car of course is a 1959, Dodge, Custom Royal with all the garnish and those beautiful late 50s lines. I believe the motor to be a 361 and the transmission to be a 3 speed Torqueflight. Mechanically the car is all there, it has not been stripped in any way. The speedometor reads 62,319 which I have reason to believe is accurate. Body wise the car is all there except for two hub caps. There is rust through on one quarter panel, the trunk is rusted badly and there is some floor rust. You need to expect to do some sheet metal fabrication; if you are not good at that the patch panels are available. The car has sat out a lot in its life and the paint is totally faded and oxidized and has surface rust. There are several scratches where horses have cribbed it. One taillight lens and one back up light lens are broken but I have found new ones. Interior wise the car is all there, right down to every knob, gage and piece of garnish. It even has the cool self adjusting night time rear view mirror. The windshield is cracked but it does not leak. The interior should be replaced but is not deteriorated to the point it could not serve as patterns and in fact you could cover the seats and drive it as is. The rear seat is beautiful, but sun cracked. I would clean and salvage the four door panels to retain some originality. These old MOPARS make beautiful show cars and cruisers. This is an excellent one to restore as the parts are all there and it will not have you chasing back and forth from the junk yard. In closing, the old car is restorable and would make a great project for a father and son/daughter or whatever. It would also make a great hotrod although I prefer you did not do that. It is sold as is and where is with no guarantee or warrantee implied or specified. I require a non refundable deposit of $500 within three days of sale and the remainder before I send you the title, the title is clear. I do have a truck and trailer and could deliver or do a partial delivery within a reasonable distance. Please San Diego, Daytona Beach and New York City are not reasonable distances to Helena, Montana. P. S. The 1955 Ford in some of the pictures is also for sale on eBay currently.
