Vehicle Detail

1965 BMW R69S COMPLETE RESTORATION IN DOVER WHITE Vehicle Description: 1965 BMW R69S motorcycle finished in beautiful Dover White, with rare large 6.5 Gallon optional gas tank and optional polished aluminum rims. Engine # 660953 Frame # 660953 Frame Plate # 660953 Factory records show this machine was manufactured on December 21st, 1965 and delivered on December 22nd, 1965 to Butler & Smith In New York. This bike was purchased in January 2008 in Los Angeles by the gentleman that undertook the daunting task of restoring this machine to an impeccable standard it is now. This bike was complete but had been completely dismantled and was in numerous boxes and in need of complete restoration. The complete restoration took approx 12 months to complete. All original parts have been used in the restoration and all have either been cad plated, three stage chromed, polished or re-painted. All Black and Dover White parts have been finished in correct single stage paint. All parts have been painted - there is no powder coating on this bike. The paint was done by an excellent local painter, in the correct color scheme and match of Dover White - which is off-white, ivory color - using New Old Stock Dover White shock cover for the color match. The paint is perfect and is done to a very high quality. All fasteners are correct German make size and thread on all parts of this machine and have the correct makers name on all nuts and bolts. The restorer rode this bike (shake down) 4 miles once compete and it runs and starts exactly as it should. The engine has been torque again after its initial run in. The restorer suggested that minor fettling may still be required after some more miles and the set up of controls for my rider comfort. The engine and gear box and final drive have been stripped and completely rebuilt with all new parts to very high standard by Jeff Moore, owner of Vintage Sales & Restorations and an award winning specialist in pre 1969 BMW Motorcycles. The work has included new pistons, rings, main bearing, main bearing carrier, valves, slingers etc. Crank was sent to Dan at Cycle works for complete restoration. Clutch gearbox pulled apart, cleaned out and adjusted and any parts replaced as needed. The final drive has all new seals and brake shoes. The engine, gearbox and final drive were all bead blasted for correct finish. Carburetors are both Bing and have correct numbers and have been rebuilt with all new old stock parts in and out and the flanges resurfaced. The exhaust system is all brand new and supplied by Blue Moon Cycles. The electrics were completely redone with a new correct wiring harness with all correct fittings and rubber parts. Generator and magneto are all in perfect working order. All electrics, lenses, and switches are genuine NOS parts including a new old stock Bosch headlamp lens and Hella tail light lens. No aftermarket parts have been used, only genuine Bosch, Hella and BMW parts. The original speedometer was completely rebuilt by North Hollywood Speedo. All lights and switches are in good working order. The horn is the correct French Klaxon horn. Gas line is correct NOS gray cloth. Other parts include: Repainted, working air pump, brand new Blitz 6 volt battery (never any acid in the battery), rebuilt gas petcock, all new rubber, and cables, and much, much more. The seat is a new Denfeld supplied by Blue Moon. Wheels are the rare optimal aluminum rims, which were professionally polished with rebuilt hubs and correct brand new Metzler Block C tires. Hubs were stripped, cleaned and bead blasted, new stainless steel spokes supplied by Buchanan Spoke and Rim, and new wheel bearings front and back. The handlebars are wide euro bars supplied by Flanders. Clutch perch and throttle were repainted, and levers professionally polished. With the complete and correct engine and gearbox rebuild, including completely refurbished ignition system and rebuilt carburetors, the bike runs perfect, idles nice, and starts on first or second kick. In its present condition, this BMW would make an excellent show bike and would take high honors, or can be used as a daily rider if preferred. The 600cc BMW R69S Motorcycle is the top of the line machine from BMW during this period. And although nearly 45 years old, it is capable of being ridden and used in modern traffic and has a top speed of over 100mph with 42 HP. This bike is in mint condition front to back and inside out and very correct in its restoration. It starts very easily and rides and handles excellent. These Earles forked BMW motorcycles in my opinion are one of the most useable classics on the market today, the R69S is appreciating in value fast. There was a lot of concern and love that went into restoring this motorcycle with a very conscientious restorer. This “IS” a new motorcycle! It is time for it to move on to another enthusiast to enjoy. The bike shows 4 miles as stated above and was titled as such (I do not remember what the original miles were) but is a new bike now. Title is free and clear and in my possession. There is a book that will go along with the sale that I put together showing pictures of the restoration (as well as a CD with pictures), owner’s manual, copy of original dealer brochure & accessories catalogue, two keys as well as the tank compartment key. The bike will also come with BMW certificate from BMW Classic Center in Germany that verifies date of build and serial & engine numbers as correct with their records along with a precise production and delivery date. The bike has original tool kit as well. This is the real deal and will be the crown jewel in your collection as it was in mine. If you have been waiting for the “right one” to come along here it is…. The only imperfection on the bike is on the center stand where the paint is marred from putting it on and off the stand. The rear “R69S” badge that goes on the rear fender will come with the bike. There is not a scratch otherwise… which is not easy to do considering it was put together with painted parts rather than powder coat. There was a lot of time and effort that went into this bike to make it as correct as possible as BMW intended so very long ago. I did not restore the bike and I do not claim to be an expert so please be gentle and understanding with the questions and or comments, if any. Thanks for looking and good luck and have fun bidding!
