This gold 450 SLC represents the zenith of the 107 series cars that Daimler Benz began producing in the early 1970’s and exporting to the USA. The quality and detail of these classic two-doors, combined with the rugged, powerful durability of the 4.5-liter dual overhead cam V-8 drive train make them among the best and most iconic models ever to come from the Fatherland. We don’t know where this rig sold new originally but it has spent a considerable amount of its life driving our snow & salt-free Pacific Northwest roads. The most recent local owner drove it sparingly for more than a decade with the result that it appears to have accumulated less than 5,400 miles per year since new. What a treat! Smooth is the word for sure. Smooth powerful acceleration. Smooth handling in the curves or on the highway. Comfort, styling, and versatility all in one gorgeous ride. For my money, these Coupes are one of the best values for the overall driving experience that a vintage Benz has to offer. Look over my photos and I’m sure you’ll agree what a find this is. What you’re viewing is the result of a wash and vacuum only! “Time capsule” is really a great adjective to use when describing this car. I know you’ll admire it’s overall provenance. It has obviously been allowed to spend a majority of its life garaged because the overall exterior condition is superior to most any other 30+ year-old Benz you can find. Climb over, under and throughout - I know you’ll come up smiling! Rust? Please, this 450 SLC HATES rust and you won’t find anything to worry about here. Yes, the Puget Sound area is famous for rain, but our winter roads are never salted. We only have one or two days of light snow each year. Everyone panics and stays home. Besides, I don’t think this car has seen many winter roads during its lifetime. Hop in, fire up the 4.5-liter V-8 and it starts immediately – even when cold! The automatic transmission shifts as it should. Having owned many dozens of Daimler vehicles over three decades, I’ve developed a great appreciation for the Mercedes style, mechanical reliability and overall driving experience. I KNOW you’ll be proud to own and drive this wonderful car. Honestly, this Benz has more raw power and almost accelerates faster than my current everyday driver ’99 E-Class. CONDITION: This is a clean, smoke-free Mercedes. I take great pride in the vehicles we sell and feel that you should know as much about them as possible. The car idles, runs and drives as it should – immediate, strong oil pressure, strong battery and charging system, no brake pull or alignment issues we’ve found! The previous owner spent a bundle upgrading the brakes and suspension recently. I’ve never seen slotted and cross-drilled brake rotors on a vintage Benz before and there’s certainly no question about stopping ability with this over-engineered system in place! They mildly lowered the stance about an inch while installing new front shocks & springs, then went the extra mile and replaced the front sway bar as well. This car handles almost like a street racer – really! The stainless flowmaster exhaust adds to the vibe and sounds perfect. Why all the extras here? I don’t know, but I can tell you a similar setup on my ’68 Mustang set me back $2,400 last year just for the parts alone! I find is the factory A/C system wants to blow a bit warm so I’d suggest a refrigerant recharge down the road. The metallic gold paint is in very good overall condition and still holds quite a shine with only a small rock chip or two. You won’t find rust bubbles in any of the usual spots under the paint. All the chrome and exterior trim is in way above average condition. The entire undercarriage appears in great, solid shape just as the photos show. I really like these large late-model Mercedes alloys on this car. They blend perfectly with the body style without detracting from the vintage vibe. All are straight and true with decent 225/45-R17 low-profile radials. Take another good look at the interior pictures. The original front buckets are in fine condition with nearly new upholstery on the drivers. All the wood dash trim is nearly perfect and you’ve gotta love the custom mahogany steering wheel as well (it sure beats the over-sized stock wheels that have NO leg clearance when sliding in and out of the car). The clean, tan leather upholstery doesn’t have rips, tears, fading or wear-through spots. The dash gauges and exterior lights are bright and true. The six-digit odometer reads less than 112,900 miles, but we have no way to tell if they are really accurate having only had the vehicle a short period of time. As is very common, the rear bench has lost a tiny bit of its shape, but still holds your caboose well! The Sony CDX-C680 stereo is tied into a trunk mounted CD changer and works fine.
