Vehicle Detail

Rust-free, all numbers matching, VIN stamped drivetrain, mint fender tag and California Pink slip. For almost 4 years now people have been asking me how much I want for the Duster. I never provided an answer nor did I really care to sell her. I've never needed the money and I always smile when I see her sitting there with the rest of my kids. Even though she's the only member of my collection that needs some restoration I have a soft spot and deep appreciation for this car. In one of the photos below you can see her sitting in my garage among my other cars. This is by far the rarest car in that picture. A bold statement considering she is surrounded by my 440-6 Pack Challenger Convertible and behind that my Black Hemi 'Cuda and 55 Belair. None of the cars I just mentioned are numbers matching or true "Survivors". This 340, 4 speed Duster is both of those things! The restoration this car needs will be easy and rewarding. I like her just the way she is which is why I left her alone. They can only be completely original once. Yes, light body work and paint would be a cosmetic improvement and a correct front seat cover and carpet can be ordered on-line for overnight delivery from Legendary, but this car's authenticity and life history is just so obvious that I decided not to change her. And, I drive this car often. It's an incredible machine. This Duster generates more nice comments and interest than ANY of my high dollar show cars. Really, more compliments and grins than all of my show winners combined. Maybe it's the ugly duckling syndrome but the primer on the flat surfaces from almost 40 years in the California sun and the worn carpet and tattered original seat only add to her charm. Again, the restoration of this car would be extremely easy based on how rock-solid and complete she is but I will never be the one to do that. OK, I have held back the urge to replace the carpet and dash-pad and recover the front seat but the dents, primer spots and original paint would stay forever! Can you tell I like this car? I think I have good taste and I'm proud of my collection but it's time to do a little house cleaning. My Duster drew one of the short straws and needs a new home. Even in her original and current condition, no one will be disappointed with this car. It gets a piece of you immediately and I'm a General Motors guy at heart. You MOPAR guys are in trouble. Full description below: California car from 71 to 2005. Still on clear, correctly signed off, California title with original license plate screwed to the bumper. Original paint, interior and drivetrain. One of the most rust-free and solid unrestored originals anyone will ever find. This car hides nothing! Restored cars can be wolves in sheep's clothing. Is there bondo? Any patch panels? Who knows and will the seller be honest? Questions that don't need to be asked about this car. NO bondo or fillers. NO patch panels anywhere! MINT floors and undersides. All original, factory body panels. Just a real muscle car that speaks for itself. Body and paint is all day-one original. The fender tag shows every option she came with. B5 Blue with white stripes, hood mounted turn signals, etc. Original shark-toothed grille is in mint condition. The California sun baked the paint off the flat surfaces so primer was applied to preserve. Every dent is documented in my provided photos. She is 100% rust-free except for a very small area down low on the passenger side rear quarter. Very minor (close-up photo shown). I have never itemized all of the exterior trim and stainless moldings that are in the trunk but they appear to be all present and in very nice condition. Factory chrome racing mirrors with remote drivers side. This car is dry and solid. The body and paint restoration will be a smooth process. The pictures will tell the rest. Much of the original interior is actually in great shape. The original door panels, rear side panels and rear seat are excellent. The factory headliner is nice but has a very small "L" shaped tear above the rear passenger area. Even the front kick-panels are gorgeous. Needs: Front seat cover, carpet, dash-pad, package tray and headliner if the small flaw is an issue. All mentioned items available and affordable at Legendary. The original AM radio is in-place but in the past a cassette player had been installed and slight modification was done. Every switch, knob and lever operate. All lights, speedometer, gauges, heater, wipers and even the horn function correctly. The gas gauge can be hit or miss but seems to usually work. I've never run out of fuel. Even the orange reverse indicator light on the lower dash still works. Windows open and close easily. What the interior needs is obvious and simple to rectify. The original 340 (premium fuel), 4 speed and rear-end are all excellent. Clear stampings on all components. Photos shown below. The 340 has been rebuilt. The A833 4 speed transmission functions flawlessly and the factory Hurst linkage shifts like butter. The 8 3/4 3:55 POSI rear-end and transmission are both church quiet. Something GM never accomplished. Factory power DISC brakes. Original Thermo-quad carburetor still in-place. I've had it overhauled twice and it works well but the secondaries can be tempermental after sitting. They clear up with fresh fuel and driving. Full dual exhaust with original chrome tips. The wheels are correct small bolt pattern MOPAR Rallies but custom built to 15 inch. Mint center caps and trim rings with new BF Goodrich T/A's. Like I said earlier, I drive this car often because it's fun and like stepping back to 1971. Motor, trans, and rear-end are all top-knotch. Brakes stop on a dime and the front suspension feels fine but I've never inspected either. I just turn the key and go without concern and I would do it tomorrow without hesitation. I will make brief comments under some of the upcoming photos. All of my eBay experiences have been enjoyable over the years as I've sold members of my collection. I'm grateful for the kind remarks I've received. My opinions have served me well and I stand behind them but please keep in mind that these are my personal opinions and observation and they may differ from your own. I welcome showing my Duster in person to anyone with genuine interest. My home and office are both less than 10 miles away from the Portland Oregon Airport and I would gladly pick you up. Feel free to click on the "ask a question" link here in the auction and I will respond to all polite questions. Phone calls are great too. My number is 503-887-1231 and calls between 8AM and 9PM Pacific time are just fine. My auction runs for 7 days and is scheduled to end on Tuesday evening, the 28th of June at 8PM Pacific. I reserve the right to end my auction early in the event I accept a genuine offer and the car becomes no longer available. PLEASE, read my terms of sale located near the bottom of this screen. I'm an easy going person but I will not bend on these basic terms unless previously discussed during the auction. A little communication goes a long way. NO RESERVE AUCTION I did not set a reserve price on my Duster. All that I ask in return is for your bids to be real and your intent to purchase be sincere. I took every picture you're about to see the day before this auction started. No photo has been altered or enhanced in any way. This is my car and each picture is true to her in-person appearance. Thanks for your time, DAVE Told ya I drive her. Crossing the Fremont Bridge here in Portland the day I took these photos. I only looked through the camera for a second. Rare, factory shark-toothed grille is excellent. Yes, I have the center cap. All 4 trim rings and caps are gorgeous. This is the ONLY rust in the car. It is very minor. Gray primer was applied to the sun-bleached top surfaces. All metal is excellent. Glass is very nice. Day-one original license plate. She had been sitting in a garage in California for almost 10 years prior to coming to Oregon. She was also in storage for the better part of the 1980's. I drive her regularly. In preporation for new paint the white stripe was removed from the drivers side. This was done nearly 20 years ago. You can still see where it was. I'm not sure if the fender mounted turn signals are with the rest of the trim. I think they are in the trunk but lets assume they are missing. I do not have the factory gas cap. Correct small bolt pattern with rims modified to 15 inch. Even the back-up lights work. Notice the small L-shaped tear in the original headliner. I still wouldn't replace it. Original is best. Back seat, door panels and rear side panels are excellent. It is one of the most solid, dry and rust-free originals anyone will find. Dash-pads are readily available and easy to install. Yes, original finish on the floors. Mopars NEVER survive this way. VS29H Factory 340 Duster. Steering wheel is an amazing original. Speedometer works and is accurate. I have no documentation for the miles. The 69,584 is simply the current reading. Probably 169,584 Replacing the carpet, dash-pad and recovering the front seat would give the interior a face lift. The original trunk is MINT. The primer was applied many years ago as a precautionary measure during the long term hibernation but wasn't necessary. Even the trunk bottom is excellent. No surface crud or scale of any kind. All gorgeous metal. Even the weather strip channel is excellent. Tail panel is also mint. Original 340-V8 rebuilt years ago but very few miles. Extremely strong. No ticks, misses or noises of any kind. Factory Thermo-quad 4bbl carburetor. Very rare. No undercoating. Light rubbing with a cotton rag exposed the shiny floors everywhere I touched. The undersides are outstanding. Factory optioned with power DISC brakes. 4 speed transmission stampings. Top row matches last 8 digits of VIN#. 1E126619 -Numbers matching means numbers matching! 340 block stampings. Again, #'s match last 8 digits of VIN. 1E126619. This is a true numbers matching car. 8 3/4 3:55 POSI rear-end castings. Block casting numbers. All I did is lightly rub the fender tag to clearly expose the codes. No rust or pitting. I have a complete decoding sheet for this tag. Most of you Mopar guys know these codes by memory but to anyone that needs help just contact me and I'll provide the break-down. Didn't feel the need to take up space here. California Pink slip. Title is correctly released and signed-off. She has always deserved sitting with the rest and is by far the most authentic car in this photo. I love them all and have worked hard to build my collection. As easy as it would have been, I've never considered restoring this Duster. I appreciate her just the way she is. No stories, no excuses, just 40 years of patina and history. Restored and shiny cars can be seen every day and at every show. Original survivors are in a league of their own. What a neat car. Terms of Sale: 40yr old vehicle being sold AS-IS: Please read and agree with the following: I have described my car honestly and to the best of my ability based on 25 years of owning and driving classic cars. I have 100% faith in the drivability of this car and to my knowledge everything is in good working order per my written description above. I have the free and clear California title in my possession. I would drive this car anywhere but she is 40 years old and routine service and repairs should be expected. If you are not comfortable with a sight-unseen purchase, please come see the car for yourself or have an independent inspection performed PRIOR to bidding. I will not be responsible for the decisions of others. I would appreciate the winning bidder contacting me immediately upon end of auction just so the lines of communication are opened. My number is 503-887-1231. A $1000.00 deposit is due within 48 hours of auction ending preferably through PayPal just so we are both protected. Wire transfers and verifiable cashier checks are also acceptable. I'm an easy going person so if you need to make special financial arrangements just let me know BEFORE you bid and I'll try to help. I have been with the same bank here in Portland for over 8 years and the Management staff knows me. You are welcome to contact them for your own security if you like. The remaining balance is due within 7 calendar days of auction end in the form of secure funds. Some banks and credit unions do not finance vehicles of this vintage. Make sure if you are financing that your financial institution accepts the year and value of this vehicle before bidding. Please have your method of payment arranged prior to auction ending. TRANSPORT - SHIPPING I am happy to be an active and hands-on part of this process from start to finish but the buyer is ultimately responsible for pickup or shipping of this vehicle and any pre-purchase inspections need to be done BEFORE auction ending. If you wish to have it shipped using a service, I will gladly assist in loading and be present for the transport condition form and other reasonable help. Locating a transporter is the buyers responsibility but I can make recommendations and share the relationships I've built. Vehicle transport has become very reasonable. I personally use a privately owned trucking company. They have handled my transport needs perfectly for the last 4 years with careful handling, excellent rates and fast service even all the way to the East Coast. Dependable Auto Shippers (D.A.S.) is a transporter that eBay recommends and my experiences with them were just fine. My location zip code is 97214. Coast-to-Coast transport is around $1200.00 and even less the closer you are to Oregon. Shipping to Australia, Europe and other Countries has also become affordable and easy for me to arrange. If you are outside of the United States or Canada, you MUST contact me BEFORE bidding. If you are an eBay member with negative history or have a (0) or low transaction score, I need to hear from you just to verify your sincerity and accept your bids as genuine. We all started from (0) and I'm happy to give a leg up. I reserve the right to cancel bids for these reasons. Communication is all I ask. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time if the vehicle is no longer available or otherwise SOLD .
