MOPAR Convertible B-Body Lovers!! Well, this time it’s for real. This doll has been up for auction twice over the past several months only to have it cancelled due to pressure from family members not to sell. But after further thought, changing priorities and 14 years of ownership, I’ve decided to hold fast this time. So here is an excellent opportunity to own a really nice and attractive classic at a reasonable price, relative to today’s classic car market. This 1970 convertible was born a Plymouth Satellite Sport Convertible slant six, automatic, bench seat, B5 blue, blue interior and white top, a rare package in itself. I bought it at the annual “Chryslers at Carlisle” event in July 1997 from the second owner who had repainted it and installed a new top. After getting it home, discovering some rust issues and rethinking how I wanted to build the car, I began an extensive cosmetic and mechanical redo that resulted in the Road Runner clone you see pictured here. About five years ago, I began another updating process that was completed late in the summer of 2006. The first restoration that was completed in February 2000 transitioned the car from a Satellite to a Road Runner. It included replacement rear quarter panels, trunk extensions, trunk floor, rear valance panel, Road Runner hood and one front fender. Its factory undercoating sufficiently protected the passenger compartment floor pans that are still original. Both bumpers were also re-plated and still look very nice. The exterior was painted Viper Blue, base coat - clear coat and a reproduction wing added to the trunk. Today the paint still shows very good with exception to a few minor rock chips and typical stress cracking at the body seams, a characteristic that all these cars developed as the paint aged. The pictures are recent. All of the exterior trim including the grille and taillights are in superb condition. The interior was redone with Legendary white seat covers front and rear, new white door panels for front and rear, and the dash color was changed to black. The headrests are new reproduction from PG Classics. I was able to locate a donor ’70 GTX that provided the 8-3/4 rear axle housing, big block K-member and front suspension components to convert the drive train. A "running" 383 engine and transmission package was purchased, cleaned up, painted, installed and put to use for about six years. In March 2006, I put the car on Ebay without consulting the family and when my daughters found out, they shamed me into cancelling the auction. Shortly thereafter, I got re-enthused with the car and began a second phase restoration. The engine, transmission, third member, drum brake system and convertible top were all removed. The 383 engine ('69 vintage block) was rebuilt for 92 octane street use. Blueprinted at 9:1 CR, it has a steel crank turned .010 - .010, new vibration damper, new stock rods, custom .030 over Ross pistons, ported and CCed 906 heads with hardened seats, hydraulic stock spec cam, Edelbrock roller rockers, port-matched Edelbrock intake, stock Holley 4160 series carburetor and high volume mechanical fuel pump. Ignition is a Mopar Performance electronic package with vacuum advance and 8mm plug wires. Engine cooling is now done via a new aluminum radiator and dual electric fans. The exhaust was replaced with TTI coated headers and O2 bungs, TTI H-pipe, mufflers, tailpipes and stock stainless exhaust tailpipe tips. The 727 torqueflite transmission utilizing a stock 11-inch torque converter was completely rebuilt with new clutches, bands, sealing rings and shift improver kit. The drive shaft is new including U-joints and transmission yoke. A four-wheel power disc brake package from MP Brakes and a new 3:55 posi-traction 3rd member from Randy’s Ring & Pinion was installed. The axle shaft bearings were also updated with sealed roller ball bearing kits. Finishing out the drive train, I chose 17-inch torque thrusts with Toyo Proxes 275 rear tires and 235 fronts. Another new addition was air conditioning - a complete system from Custom Auto Air. Finally a new convertible top, boot and rear glass was installed since the old top had begun to fade and the zipper failed on the back glass. Since the rebuild, I have driven the car approximately 650 miles. The engine performs and sounds great, oil pressure steady at 40psi and water temperature settling out at about 185 degrees idling with electric fans running. The fans are operated via toggle switch under the dash located beside two Auto-Meter gauges (water temp and oil pressure). Power Steering works excellent and the transmission shifts flawlessly through all gears. The only thing one might consider changing about the current setup would be a higher stall convertor. Without displaying literally a hundred pictures and writing a novel, it is impossible to cover every detail. So, please ask questions before bidding. I want you to be fully informed before you bid and your expectations exceeded if you win the auction. The car is available for you to see in person if you can. Feel free to request additional information or call (903) 736-0495 anytime to get your questions answered or make an appointment. I will not disclose the RESERVE PRICE, so please do not ask.
