Vehicle Detail

To all bidders; please understand that this is a gorgeous Rolls-Royce in fantastic condition. But please understand it is also 34 years old. It is not brand new. Please read the terms & conditions before bidding. ~~oo00oo~~ ~~oo00oo~~ Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II 1977 A very beautiful and original presenting example! Here is a really fine and original presenting example of a Silver Shadow II. Finished in original Caribbean blue with hand painted cream fine lines to the waist-rail and hubcap beauty rings. And finished with a light tan Everflex vinyl top. The interior has stunning cream/off-white Connolly hides and Westminster carpets with accented Wedgewood blue seat and carpet piping to highlight the exterior. The same theme carries through to the boot and is simply stunning. This Shadow II is quite rare in that it has a “factory endorsed” sunroof. Rolls-Royce did not supply Rolls-Royces with sun-roofs but instead, when customer requested, the cars were shipped to a renown coachbuilder in France which fitted them. The cars were then returned to the Crewe factory and the installation completed to include the factory installed Everflex top. The cost of this option was some $12,000 in 1977. This is a very clean and unmolested example that has clearly been lovingly maintained. It is totally original with no modifications. It does still sport its original “Blue Dot” Blaupunkt push-button radio and 8 track cassette deck. A pampered example, having lived most its life on the West coast in a garaged environment, it has been freed from the perils of harsh weather. In more recent times, the car was collector owned in the mid-west and regularly climate control stored when not in use. As you would expect from a fine example, it comes with its original manual, keys and tools. The Silver Shadow II presented here has been recently fully work-shop inspected and serviced with all work needed carried out. Important costly items such as the hydraulics and brakes have been fully serviced to include new hoses, pressured tested accumulators and bled. It is ready to drive and enjoy. The odometer shows a low 65,000 and these are clearly pampered ones. It is very quiet and smooth on the road without any of the typical “thumps” and “rattles” typical of poor (or even averagely) maintained examples of this model. The interior looks close to perfect. The cream leather is in absolutely outstanding original condition with no cracks, tears nor fading and very supple and soft – true to its Connolly characteristics – and can be described as virtually flawless. The leather has NOT been re-dyed but lovingly preserved. The burr walnut wood finishes on the dash, console and vanity mirrors are original and have not been redone. This is quite unusual for a Rolls-Royce of this era as typically by this age, the clear lacquer is in almost all cases completely cracked and peeling. The doors were redone by Park-Ward, not because they were sun-damaged but simply because the front doors had seat-belt chip marks that detracted from the otherwise perfect finish. Redoing just 2 doors is never recommended so all 4 were redone to ensure a good match in finish and consistency. A bonus with this Shadow II is the detail in the burr walnut grain which is very rich and interesting and we thank the luck and grace of Mother Nature for this great touch. Head-lining is original and in good condition. The dash and top-roll is in excellent condition and there is no pulling at the dash vents which typically happens to these cars when exposed to many years of sun-light. The dash, in its own right, is a very clear indicator that the car has been garaged most of its life. The boot (trunk) carpet with the same cream and Wedgewood blue piping theme is also in wonderful condition. The body on this Shadow II is straight and the paint is very shiny and lusterous. The car underwent a repaint in the last 2-3 years and is of a good quality standard. The cost was some $10,000. As a result, the finish is free from age related scratches, dings or chips and is WITHOUT the typical Rolls-Royce weak spots of cracking at the base of the “A” and “C” pillars - ALL original Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motor Cars from this era suffered this effect, where the infamous “lead wiping technique” was employed (lead was used to join panels instead of bondo and, given the characteristics of lead vs. steel, the lead would expand and contract at a different rate causing the paint surface to crack). This car has none of this. It still remains shiny and crisp, overal presents smartly and is certainly of an 8 or 9 out of 10 standard. This Silver Shadow II has the European specification front spoiler/air-dam fitted which is a nice touch. The Michelin white-wall tyres are the correct 235/70 size and have plenty of tread. The hubcaps are excellent with no dents or imperfections in the stainless or painted trim rings. All remaining bright-work is in good condition as is glass, electrics and instruments. All electrics have been checked to include windows, seats, features and functions - right down to the smallest and insignificant dash and courtesy light. The heater blows toasty and the A/C ice cold. Under the bonnet, the presentation is amazing. It has not been precision detailed but simply kept clean and tidy throughout its life. You must take the time to look at the photos of the engine bay as its presentation is like that of a near new example. Simply stunning! The car is of very high standard and is an easy 8 or 9 out of 10 rating. ~~ This stately Silver Shadow II is an excellent condition representation of the marque that is ready to be driven and enjoyed. It makes for an excellent driver and although not show-standard, could easily be driven as-is to your next Rolls-Royce meet or British car show with pride and glee! ~~ ~~oo00oo~~ Interesting information on the Silver Shadow series ~~ The Silver Shadow II was a significant revision by Rolls-Royce to its already successful Silver Shadow. Its major improvements included rack and pinion steering and revised suspension geometry for superior steering and road handling without compromise to ride quality. It boasted a world first – split level climate control air-conditioning, a design that proved so successful it continued in all models through to 1998. The “official” incorporation of the chrome and rubber bumpers prevailed on Shadow II (only American 1973 to 1976 Silver Shadows had the same but in a hap-hazard retro-fit manner) with a deeper, more pronounced grille shared only by the Corniche model. There was a modern upgrade in the dash-board which continued in a similar fashion into its later Silver Spirit model. There were various small aesthetic improvements such as a smaller steering wheel, revised centre console and changes in the bright-work. It was the first Rolls-Royce to come standard with a “balanced” dual exhaust for better performance whilst maintaining low noise output. ~~ ~~oo00oo~~ For many extra photos on this fine example go to the link below: Click HERE to see many individual photos If you have high speed internet, I recommend you use the “slide-show” feature for good resolution display. International bidders are welcome. ~~oo00oo~~ Click HERE to see many more individual photos ~~oo00oo~~ This Rolls-Royce is part of a private collection. Although licensed and bonded, I am not a main-stream retail car dealer or broker; I am a professional car collector of some 30 years with considerable experience and knowledge of Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motor Cars. I have a long standing reputation being associated with the marque which I take seriously. I take a lot of pride in my cars and have fun in collecting and restoring them. However, auctions are not a game so when you place a bid or offer, and you are the winning bidder, please understand you have entered a binding contract. You cannot bid and win the auction and expect not to meet the terms and conditions. Bidding and/or winning does not mean you are expecting me to “hold” the car until you have the opportunity to inspect it. Any inspection contemplated should be undertaken BEFORE you bid or make an offer and I openly welcome any potential buyer to come and personally inspect the car. Once you bid or make an offer, you are doing so to buy WITHOUT conditions. A $2000.00 deposit (non-refundable) is required within 24 hours of the close of the auction and payable by PayPal. The balance of funds are required within 7 days of the close of the auction and must be provided by cashier’s check or bank wire. I cannot accept PayPal for the balance unless you are willing to meet the cost of transaction fees. Full payment must be made (and payments cleared) before the title and/or the vehicle is released. All payments are non-refundable. Payments as described above form an important part of this purchase contract and so, if all the funds are not received as outlined above, I reserve the right to terminate the transaction without notice. If there has been any deposit or other part payments received and I elect to terminate the contract, I reserve the right to keep any such deposits or payments and resell the vehicle to another bidder or interested party or re-list the vehicle at any time. I am happy to assist with shipping arrangements on a national and worldwide basis but the winning bidder takes full responsibility for pickup and/or shipping and at his cost. As a collector and experienced restorer of the marque, I make every effort to bring my cars to a very high standard. Unless specifically stated, the car is not of show standard but of good quality "driver" condition. Please understand, the very nature of these classic Rolls-Royces is such that it is not always possible to attend to every single item, or perhaps I may have inadvertently overlooked an item. Please note, fitted radio/stereo systems are usually subject to upgrade by purchasers so I do not ensure operation of these. Similarly, cruise control systems fitted to these classics were of an inferior design and I do not check or warrant the operation of these. Further, a feature or function that is working perfectly one moment, may decide to play-up the next. After all, it is some 34 years old. For this reason it is necessary for the following condition: The vehicle is being sold "as-is/where-is" with no warranty expressed, written or implied. Any descriptions or representations are made with reasonable judgment and all efforts are made to ensure fair assessment and accuracy but they are for descriptive and identification purposes only and are not to be construed as a warranty of any type. The seller shall not be responsible for errors in description, authenticity, genuineness, or defects herein and makes no warranty in connection therewith. No allowance or set aside will be made on account of any incorrectness, unforeseen imperfection, defect or damage. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have satisfied himself as to the condition and value and to bid based upon that judgment solely. The seller shall and will make every reasonable effort to disclose any known defects at the buyer’s request prior to the close of the auction. Seller assumes no responsibility for any repairs regardless of any oral statements about the vehicle. Being a classic car in excess of 10 years of age, in most US states, the mileage may be recorded as “exempt”. In this regard the seller makes no warranties as to the accuracy of the mileage indicated or shown. I can hold the vehicle up to 30 days while you arrange shipping but you must immediately insure it. I will not bear any responsibility for any additional costs including storage, transportation, or repair after the close of the auction. Whereas I am happy to store the car in excess of 30 days from auction end, a cost of $35 per day shall apply beyond 30 days of auction end. Also, you must remember that this is a classic +/-34 year old vehicle, and while it is up to you, I do not recommend that you just “hop in and drive it across the country”. At least, I have never done that. I have always professionally transported the cars in enclosed carriers from where I bought them to my home. PLEASE; IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ABIDE BY THESE TERMS, DO NOT BID AS, RESPECTFULLY, THERE CAN BE NO EXCEPTIONS. ~~oo00oo~~ ~~ **Please note: This Rolls-Royce is part of the collection of the Park-Ward Motor Museum. As a professional collector and experienced restorer and I have my own Rolls-Royce dedicated workshop with qualified craftsmen on hand. As a passionate collector of the marque I take great pride and pleasure in passing on any of my cars to its next owner (“caretaker”). In so doing, once this Rolls-Royce is sold, I will put the car back thru my workshop to ensure that it is mechanically sound and all major features and functions are operating as described even though the car is contractually being sold "as-is". Certain items such as final electrical tests and hydraulic pressure checks are usually left for this stage as these are considered "commissioning procedures". This and considerable other work will be performed after the sale and before delivery to ensure the car is in excellent order. This all done at NO CHARGE. Who else selling a Rolls-Royce on eBay does this?! This provides the buyer the peace of mind to purchase with complete confidence. Depending on our work load, please allow approximately 7-10 business days for this procedure. For more information on the Park-Ward Motor Museum and their skills, please go to www.park-ward.com - make sure you click on the "Photo Gallery" tab to see some 50 Rolls-Royces restored to varying levels over the last few years. ~~ On May-31-11 at 21:19:57 PDT, seller added the following information: Sellers: Get your own map today.
