Car was never hurt and car truly looks like it came off show room floor. No issiues what so ever. ALTHOUGH FEW MAY RECALL THE ASC/McLAREN 5.0 SC, IT WAS ONE ENGINEER’S VISION OF A LIMITED PRODUCTION, TWO- SEATER EURO-STYLE ROADSTER. THE MERCURY CAPRI THAT DEBUTED IN 1979 SHARED ITS CHASSIS AND ENGINEERING WITH THE EQUALLY NEW FORD MUSTANG. IN THE EARLY 1980’S, THAT PROJECT STARTED THE WHOLE ASC/MCLAREN SERIES ON THE FOX PLATFORM MUSTANGS AND CAPRIS. BECAUSE LINCOLN-MERCURY DEALERS WANTED THE 5.0 SC AS AN “IMAGE CAR”, THE CAPRI’S STOCK 302 V-8 WAS DEEMED SUFFICIENT. FUEL-INJECTION WAS INTRODUCED IN 1986 WHICH MEANT 200 H.P. THIS PEPPY V-8 WAS MATED WITH THE BORG-WARNER T-5 OR FORD AOD AUTOMATIC. IT ALSO GOT AN UPGRADED SUSPENSION WITH UNIQUE LOWERING SPRINGS, DIFFERENT SHOCK VALVING AND STATE-OF-THE-ART BF GOODRICH RADIALS. THE COST OF THE ASC/MCLAREN 5.0 SC CONVERSION WAS STOUT, ADDING $12,059 TO THE $10,223 STICKER PRICE OF A 1986 CAPRI RS. ASC/MCLAREN COUPES WERE OFFERED ALONGSIDE 5.0 SCS EACH YEAR. FIFTY CONVERTIBLES AND 25 COUPES APPEARED IN 1984, (257 CONVERTIBLES, 150 COUPES AND 30 SPECIAL-EDITION “GRAND-PRIX IV”) COUPES WERE BUILT IN 1985, AND 245 CONVERTIBLES, 115 COUPES AND 47 STRIPPER ‘EURCOUPES” HIT THE ROAD IN 1986. THE ASC/MCLAREN SC’S ARE BASED ON THE REVAMPED 1967 MUSTANG GT AND WERE BUILT THROUGH THE PROJECTS TERMINATION IN 1990. ONLY 245 CONVERTIBLES WERE MADE IN 1986!
