Vehicle Detail
1996 Volvo 850-R T-5 Turbo Sedan VIN: YV1LS5821T2306198 +++ AutoCheck Clean Title Guarantee +++ In the summer of 1975 my newlywed wife and I acquired our first of many, many Volvos. I still regret selling that ’67 122S and know I’ll feel the same when this exceptional, top-of-the-line 850 R Model T-5 is loaded on the transporter or the lucky new owner flies in to begin an early summer road trip home! Our dealership came by this local sedan after its finicky, long-time owner traded it in for a new Subaru and I knew immediately what a find this was (I love “R models” and have been using it as my daily driver now for several weeks). If you’ve looking for a clean, fast, lower-mileage, reliable, nonsmoker, rare model Volvo – this is absolutely the ride for you! My name is Mark Thompson and my direct number is 206/914-1173. Feel free to contact me anytime with questions or to discuss a purchase of this unique car before the auction ends. Here’s a little history on the “T-5 R” series & why they’re special: In 1995 a special limited edition race-bred 850 was released. This "850 T-5R" model was limited in exterior paint color choices: only available in black (2500 worldwide including sedan and station wagon), cream yellow (2500 worldwide including sedan and station wagon) and green (500 worldwide including sedan and station wagon). Only 185 of the cream yellow models were made for the U.S. market. The vehicle was based upon the 850 Turbo with the B5234T5 engine upgraded with a special Electronic Control Unit known as the Bosch #628 ECU. This boosted the turbocharger output pressure, giving the engine an additional 18 horsepower. Also included in the "R" package is a unique front bumper with lower valance and rear spoiler. The seats, both front and back, came in a distinctive two-tone leather and were either tan or dark gray. The interior was further customized with a choice of deep birch or light rosewood woodgrain accents. The standard wheels were the 5-spoke 17×7 "Titan" painted a dark charcoal gray. In 1996 and 1997 (the final year of the 850) paint colors were limited to red, black, and white. Also, a new rear spoiler was introduced. The interior still came in a unique two-tone but the layout changed — in 1995 the leather was in the center of the seats — now it was on the outside bolster portion. The standard wheels used in these two model years were the 17×7 "Volans" also painted dark charcoal gray. This R-Model qualifies for and is backed by the AutoCheck BUYBACK GUARANTEE. That means there is absolutely NO history of flood damage or a rebuilt, salvage or junk title. The report also backs-up the actual mileage odometer reading by showing a consistent reporting when emissions were tested and, further, there are NO open recalls. I will include all of the original books, warrantee info, and maintenance records shown here in the photos. As a long-term Ebay seller with several hundred satisfied online buyers, I want you to bid with confidence knowing that this car runs and drives as it should and that it is being properly represented to you! CONDITION: The photos really do tell this Volvo’s story. When it came to us, I felt it was in such superior original condition a detail wasn’t even necessary. What you see is the result of a wash and vacuum only! Please note that the car still has all of the original exterior parts unique to an R Model – The lower front valance, the rear wing and the cool, charcoal 17-inch wheels. The exterior still wears its original red paint and, as the pics show, it looks great! All the glass is good with no cracks or pitting. You can open and close the (non-leaking) sunroof smoothly. We’ve made no attempt to paint or update the remarkably clean engine compartment and the photos clearly show the trunk with its original spare and jack. I really don’t need to say much about the safety factor of any Volvo, everyone knows their history by now. I do believe this may have been the first year for side impact protection airbags (SIPS) though. Rust? Please! Cars here in the Pacific Northwest hate body rust and I find NO evidence of any here! Yes, we get a bit of drizzly rain, but hardly ever any snow so our winter roads are never salted. Feel free to climb over, under and around this nice 850 - I know you’ll come up smiling! By the way, our investigation shows that original owner purchased the car in Canada and imported it to the U.S. two years later. It has been licensed here in snow-free Seattle ever since. Please take another good look at the interior. The original leather upholstery is in great condition – no tears or wear-through spots, only a little wear to the piping. No need to look for door panels or carpeting – they are all very clean and original. I’ll include the factory floor mats, though I didn’t show them in the pictures because I wanted the carpets to be seen, they’re in very good condition. I’m quite impressed with the condition of the dash gauges too. They’re about as clear and bright as the day this sedan left the factory in Sweden back on January 22, 1996! The factory CD radio works great and there’s a separate changer mounted in the trunk. The power windows all roll up and down smoothly and the power door lock system never fails. Mechanically the car is in very good shape. My wife drives a ’99 S70 T-6, so we’ve gotten very used to the Volvo turbo systems and their rapid acceleration. After driving it daily these past two weeks, you should know that it freeway accelerates to 70 MPH and cruises just as it should. Also that the brakes feel just fine. It starts from cold at about the first crank. The timing belt replacement sticker on the belt cover shows that work was done less than 15,000 miles ago by an authorized shop. The automatic transmission doesn’t slip and shifts through all the gears properly. So, if you are in the market for a rare, all-original, well-kept Volvo 850 R series, please give this car your kind consideration! We’ve helped arrange long-distance shipping for many of our customers and have sent cars to Asia, Europe and Australia but have had many folks from as far away as Alaska, Eastern Canada, Chicago, New York, California, Arizona, Texas and even the Mexican Baja fly in here to Seattle and then drive their new purchase home. (We’re happy to pick you up at Sea-Tac International just a few miles away). C’mon, summer’s here and it’s the perfect time for a roadtrip home! TERMS OF SALE: Note to Bidders: Rest assured, we will NEVER “shill” or falsely "bump-up" an auction (a violation of eBay rules and also Federal Law) and we will NEVER, EVER solicit a “Second Chance Offer” from ANY Bidder! Because of the amount of money involved in buying a vehicle, we require that new eBay members with a feedback history of four or fewer transactions call or email before placing a bid. If we don’t have this initial contact, your bid may be cancelled. The phone number to talk directly to me, as outlined above, is 206/914-1173. Please feel free to call any time during the auction. In fairness, reserves are held in confidence until after the end of the auction. Please check the photos over closely and call with any questions BEFORE you place a bid! We reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any negative feedback and also require an email or phone call from prospective bidders with a feedback rating of five or fewer transactions. If I don’t hear from you your bid may be canceled! You’re encouraged to inspect the Volvo so please contact me to arrange a test drive early to be sure you don't miss this one. A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction’s end. We accept PAYPAL for the deposit only because of the high fees they charge. The balance is due by cash or certified funds within five days unless prior arrangements have been made. Remember, you’re bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold, inspect or then come test-drive the vehicle later! You are more than welcome to do this before the auction ends. Non-paying bidders will be subject to legal action to recover lost monies. All costs of transport to the purchaser’s location are the responsibility of the purchaser. I’m more than happy to store the car in our warehouse for a few days after the sale and will always help coordinate pickup and loading with your transport company. Additional Terms and Requirements: The Buyer will be responsible for his own Licensing Requirements in their state of residence. Washington State buyers will need to pay the required 9.8% sales tax, title preparation, transfer and registration fees. If you’re from outside Washington, we collect ONLY a $50 document processing fee and NO sales tax, etc! Because the Volvo is advertised and for sale locally here in Kenmore, we reserve the right to cancel this auction early if it’s no longer available for sale online. Please remember this isn’t a new car and it may have or could develop issues at any moment. Though I strive to give as accurate a description as possible, I can't guarantee that every physical defect or flaw has been discovered so it is being sold as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Having said all of that, I know of no reason the Volvo couldn’t be driven cross-country tomorrow! The State of Washington shall have exclusive jurisdiction over all disputes. Venue shall be exclusively in King County. The final contract signed between both buyer and seller shall be binding. The final signed contract and terms thereof shall govern the sale. All disputes arising out of or relating to this auction, any negotiations, the signed agreement, or to the breach, enforcement or interpretation thereof, shall be resolved by binding arbitration in Washington, in accordance with the terms contained in the final sale agreement and under the laws of the State of Washington. Whew! Don’t you just love legalese?
