Vehicle Detail
1971 Pontiac GTO Ram Air Convertible I purchased this car from the 2nd owner from Florida in 2001 withe the original matching numbers 400 YS engine! After getting the car home had a frame on restoration done in 2003. The body was completely stripped and painted. There was a small steel patch panel installed between drivers door and rear wheel(5in sq). Otherwise all fenders and quarters are original and in great shape along withe the trunk floor. New ball joints and shocks were installed along with new carpet. Upholstery is original and in near perfect condition. Original YS 400 was completely rebuilt as was the carb, transmission and rearend. I drove the car this way for 3 years but always wanted a 455 HO motor but couldn't find one. In 2007 that all changed. While searching i found out that Jim Taylor Engine Service in Phillipsburg NJ had a near perfect match, a totally rebuilt 71 455 HO engine with a casting date of Jan 13 1971. My car has a shipping date of Jan 5, 1971. Long story short, i purchased the HO motor from Jim Taylor and switched motors in the car. I currently have 337 miles on the 455 HO motor and it is running great. The original YS 400 is crated and stored in a climate controlled garage as has the car the whole time I've had it. The YS 400 also sells with the car. Original color of car was lime kist green. Car has power top and power windows. Top works great and comes with a black boot in perfect condition. Car is being sold with the original rally 2s. Rims and tires are in great shape, tires have 80-90% tread left. 455 HO motor "YE" code Date code A 13 71 197 HO heads(non ported) 71 HO intake & crossover 71 HO carb (also completely rebuilt) This motor was a turnkey motor from Jim Taylor. Everything is top of the line, including forged rods and pistons, stainless valves, chromoly pushrods, roller rockers, etc. Only a few problems with the car. AC does not work and clock doesn't work. Original radio did work but lots of static so I disconnected power wire and hooked it up to a new AM/FM CD player that is hidden in the glove box. There are two small cracks in the paint between the trunk and top about 2inches long(see picture). This is common in GTOs. This has been a great car. Looks and runs great. No disappointments here.
