1956 FORD Thunderbird Hot Rod Ready to drive and enjoy right now. Owned since 2003; all work was completed in 2004 and is identified as 'new' as I have driven it less than 200 miles cruising the boulevard. You won't find another Thunderbird this good with these features for this price. Over $40,000 invested. Car has performance equipment but has not been raced or driven hard as it was built to look and sound great and have that 'wow' factor when other car owners gather around at the cruise-in. Garaged every night. Selling due to relocation, downsizing and the need to free up garage space; I think this was my last hot rod. The descriptions in this listing are as complete and accurate as I can make them. Photos are current. Car is in Knoxville, Tennessee and can be inspected by appointment. Features: Did not come from the factory with and does not have Power Steering, Power Brakes, Air Conditioning, power seats or power windows. This is a real car, not a wimp-mobile! Exterior: Previous owner claimed a frame-off restoration. Floor boards were replaced and are very solid. Body is solid. Passenger door requires firm push to close. Frame is solid. Paint is Colonial White enamel similar to factory original. Windshield washer removed. Not a perfect restoration, but looks good. Bumpers and exterior chrome newly re-chromed. New black vinyl convertible top. No hardtop. Glass: New windshield. Driver's side window is cracked. Other glass in good condition. Some door window trim needs to be replaced. Engine: 312 cid Y-Block is believed to be original. All Ford parts or aftermarket parts designed for Ford. Professionally rebuilt, zero decked, balanced, ECZ-G heads (best breathing Y-block heads), aftermarket aluminum intake manifold, Edelbrock 4 barrel carburetor, Ceramic-coated headers (Hedman brand from back in the day?) with dumps (never opened). High performance camshaft provides lots of power and gives this engine a great loping idle that brings folks running to see 'what you got in it' when you pull into the cruise-in. This Thunderbird Bird has real THUNDER in it! Mallory distributor with very cool mechanical tachometer drive. High-flow water pump keeps engine from overheating in slow traffic. Alternator in place of the original generator Original cast aluminum valve covers are the best looking ever on a production engine. New exhaust system. Transmission: Original automatic replaced with rebuilt modern C4 automatic with B&M ratchet shifter. Conversion used 390 starter that really cranks this Y-block! Interior: Original interior was Fiesta Red. Some trim items have been replaced or removed; see photos. Aftermarket AM FM radio. Clock does not work. All other gauges, heater, vent, and wiper controls work. Interior is in good condition, door and kick panels recently recovered. Brakes: Front drum brakes replaced with new disc brakes. Other: Cowl side vent boxes were deteriorated, have been removed. Air adjustable shocks on rear. Tires are good. Headlights, turn signal, tail, brake and back-up lights all work.
