NO RESERVE & HIGH BIDDER IS THE PROUD NEW OWNER OF THIS RARE ONE OF A KIND ASPEN SPORT WAGON SURVIVOR CAR!!!!!!!!!! Before I go into a long winded description about this 1979 Dodge Aspen Sport Wagon, let me start off by saying that this is a very Original Wagon that is wearing most of its Original Paint and all of its Original Interior. This a Rustfree car that was purchased new and owned by the same family for many years. This is a heavily Optioned Wagon with Factory Bucket Seats, Floor Console, Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Air Conditioning, AM-FM 8 Track Stereo, Cruise Control, Rare Gold Aluminum Road Wheels, Full Tinted Windows, Tuff Steering Wheel, Sport Package, Wheel Flares, Front Air Dam, Rare Roof Mounted Rear Spoiler/Air Deflector, 3 Speed Wipers, Dual Painted Remote Racing Style Mirrors, Inside Hood Release, 26" Heavy Duty Radiator, Locking Storage Compartments in the Rear Cargo area and Carpeted Rear Cargo Floor. For 1979 Dodge and Plymouth offered the young at heart a Sport version of its Best Selling Wagons, called the Aspen or Volare Sport Wagon. These Rare Dodge Aspen and Plymouth Volare Sport Wagons were basically the Aspen R/T & Volare Roadrunner in a Wagon body which included many of the same items found on the Aspen R/T and Volare Roadrunner. The Sport Wagon Package consisted of Wheel Opening Flares and a Front Spoiler like the Aspen R/T or Volare Roadrunner, Yellow and Orange Tape Stripes, Blacked Out Grill, Dual Body Colored Sport Mirrors, Premium Vinyl Bucket Seats with a Center Armrest, Tuff Steering Wheel, Cargo Compartment Carpeting, Locking Storage bins and Five Spoke Road Wheels with Trim Rings. The Aspen Sport Wagons were offered in just 4 colors which included Regent Red Sunfire Metallic, Sable Tan Sunfire Metallic, Black and White! This 1979 Dodge Aspen Sport Wagon was scheduled to be built on Thursday December 7, 1978 at Chrysler's Hamtramck Assembly Plant in Detroit Michigan. When the car was completed it was shipped to Lynn Hickey's TRI-CITY Dodge Inc. in MidWest City Oklahoma where the New Dodge Aspen Sport Wagon would be used as a Showroom Display car. TRI-CITY DODGE is said to have been the newer and larger of the two Dealerships with a large Showroom where this New well optioned 1979 Dodge Aspen Sport Wagon would be proudly displayed to motivate new car buyers to consider one of the New Aspen Wagons which had become one of Dodge's best selling Wagons by 1979. The Aspen Wagons were available in many configurations from Base Models to Upscale Aspen's with Woodgrain side and then there was the unusual Sport Wagon which were offered in limited numbers. This Bright White Aspen Sport Wagon with its Cool Wheel Flares, Front Spoiler and Beautiful New Gold Aluminum Road Wheels along with its Yellow and Orange Stripes and its Stunning Bright Red Interior must have been quite a sight under the Bright Lights of the New Dodge Dealers Showroom! Back in the Summer of 1979, a couple by the name of Richard and Any Maiello from Del City Oklahoma walked into the TRI-CITY Dodge Dealership and saw the new Dodge Sport Wagon and immediately sat down with Lynn Hickey Tri-City Dodge Salesman Jimmy Smith to try to work out a deal on the Beautiful New Dodge Aspen Sport Wagon. Before the day was done, Richard & Amy Maiello had made a deal with Salesman Jimmy Smith and the Cool Heavily Optioned 79 Dodge Sport Wagon had found its First Owner. At the time that the Maiello's purchased their Dodge Aspen Sport Wagon it had 501 miles on the Odometer which tells me that one of the Salesmen or even the Owner of Lynn Hickey Tri-City Dodge may have been using the car as a demo or maybe the Sport Wagon had plenty of potential buyers who had taken the car out for a Test Drive. Who knows? Either way, this New 1979 Dodge Aspen Sport Wagon or an Aspen R/T Wagon as I like to call it had found its New Home with the Maniello's. Its interesting that this 1979 Dodge Aspen Sport Wagon with 501 Miles on the Odometer would sell for a hefty price of $7647.00 on August 31, 1979. That was quite a price condsidering that there were likely some New 1980 Dodge's already on the lot of Tri-City Dodge at this time although I doubt very much that there was another Aspen Sport Wagon on the lot as very few of these cars were Produced by Dodge in 1979 or 1980. Another interesting thing is that the Maniello's traded in their 1971 Volkswagen 2 Door and were given a $1600.46 Trade-In Allowance for the 8 year old Volkswagen. The Maiello's made the deal for their New 79 Dodge Aspen Wagon in August 31, 1979 and the total purchase prices was $7647.00 and the Maniello's left a $1,000 deposit as well as their 1971 Volkswagen which they were given $1600.46 in Trade Allowance which left a Balance of $5046.54 for which they had taken a loan with the Federal Employees Credit Union in Oklahoma City. The loan was finalized on September 20, 1979 and the Maiello's had given Tri-City Dodge a personal check which was to be held until the Credit Union Loan Check arrived and so the Maiello's were already driving their New Dodge Wagon before the actual Loan Check had been authorized by the Federal Employees Credit Union. You just dont see things like this these days. The world was a different place in back in 1979 and people actually trusted one another. What a great world to live in, huh? The Maiello's had their new 1979 Dodge State Safety Inspected on September 5, 1979 with the Odometer reading just 582 Miles and the Inspection was done by Safety Inspection Mechanic Allen Cherry. The reason that I have all of this information is because all of the Original Documentation for this 1979 Aspen Sport Wagon is still with the car. Im talking absolutely everything except for the Window Sticker which was likely removed from the car long before the Maiello's ever saw the car as it had accumulated some 501 Miles before they made their purchase agreement with Salesman Jimmy Smith. The Documentation that is still with this 79 Dodge is amazing. The Maiello's kept absolutely everything from their Original New Car Sales Purchase Order and Original Bill Of Sale to all of their State of Oklahoma Registration Certificates to all of the Original State of Oklahoma Safety Inspection Certificates. The Original Owners Manual with the Original Owners Packet is still with the car as is the Original Chrysler Sound Systems Booklet which shows the New Car Owner how to operate one of the many Optional Chrysler Stereo's that were available. In this case the Aspen Sport Wagon is equipped with the Optional AM-FM 8 Track Stereo with Front and Rear Speakers and the Original Radio and the 8 Track Tape Player work perfectly. The car still retains the Original Chrysler "Sounds Of Stereo" Demo 8 Track Tape which was given to owners of New Chrysler products so they could try out their New 8 Track Stereo Tape Player. Its a pretty wild Original 8 Track Tape with some interesting Music of the 60's through the 70's and it works like new. Other Original Documentation included with the car is the Original "New Vehicle Inspection and Road Test" which was included with all New Chrysler built vehicles which show that the Selling Dealer had gone over everything from the cars Exterior, Interior, Mechanical Components, Under Hood, Undercarriage and had given it a Road Test to Insure that there were no mechanical issues but to also insure that there were no cosmetic issues with the car. This Certificate is Shown in the Photos with the Aspen's Vin Number as well as well as the Aspen's Stock Number at Lynn Hickey Dodge and was dated March 20, 1978. Just so there is no confusion, Lynn Hickey Dodge was also owned by Tri-City Dodge and if you take a good look at some of the Original Documentation then you will see that the addresses of both Dealerships, one in Oklahoma City as well as the other Dealership in Midwest City Oklahoma. The Documentation for this 1979 Dodge Sport Wagon is amazing with all Original Registrations, Original Inspection Certificates, Original Warranty Paperwork, Original Owners Manual, Original Stereo Manual, Original Aspen and 1979 Dodge Line Sales Literature, Financing Paperwork, Tax Documents, All Service Records from Day 1 including everything from Oil Changes to Tire Installation, New Catalytic Converter Installation and more. The File on this Dodge is incredible and I believe that the Maiello's kept just about anything and everything that had anything to do with their beloved Dodge Sport Wagon. If you look carefully through the Inspection and Registration Certificates, you will see that the Dodge Wagon was used very little from September of 1979 up until September of 1993 with only 26,700 Miles put on the car in those 14 years. The Dodge was driven sparingly through the 80's and was only driven by Richard Maiello from 1979 until his passing in the 90's and at that time his son would take over caring for the Dodge Sport Wagon. He would also drive the car more often that his Father and by the Fall of 2001 he sold the car to a neighbor who was also an avid Mopar collector. At that time the car had traveled just over 89,000 miles and it now has 90,806. The car has been collector owned since it left the family of the Original Owner in late 2001 and has been well loved and cared for since. Other than common maintainence items such as the Original Tires, Battery, Exhaust Pipe and Catalytic Converter and some smaller items under the hood, the Aspen Sport Wagon remains very much the way as it was when it was built in December of 1978. Of course its now a 32 years old vehicle and still wearing its Original paint on the Rustfree Original Body so there are some minor door dings and nicks and road scratches from 90,000 miles of driving but overall, this is still a very nice and very Original Low Production 1979 Dodge Aspen Sport Wagon. If your not familiar with these unusual Dodge Aspen Sport Wagon's then your in for a real treat. These WAGON SPORT PACKAGE Cars are equipped with the the $630 Decor Group which included: * Wheel-Opening Flares * Front Air Dam *Dual -Color Tape Stripes for the Upper Body, Wheel Openings and Liftgate as well as the Front Air Dam or Front Spoiler * Dual Body Colored Sport Mirrors Remote Control * 5 Spoke Styled Road Wheels with Trim Rings or the Gold Cast Aluminum Road Wheels Code "W25" which were available at extra Cost and are quite Rare * 225 1 Barrel Six Cylinder Engine is Standard but the V8 Engines are available at Extra Cost which this car has. *Black Accented Grill *Black Headlamp Doors * Black Park and Turn Signal Surround Moldings * Vinyl Bucket Seats with the Folding Armrest or "Buddy Seat" is standard * Floor Console with Floor Shifted Automatic Transmission is available at Extra Cost and this car is so equipped * "TUFF" Steering Wheel * Carpeted Rear Cargo Compartment with Storage Bins The following options were NOT available with the Aspen Sport Wagon Package: No other colors besides the Red, Tan, Black and White....NO Wheel Covers, No exterior(A89) Woodgrain Packages, No Wheel Opening Moldings, No Chrome Racing Style Mirrors, No Standard Chrome Mirrors, No Exterior Side Moldings and No other Stripe Options were available. After you look over the standard equipment, you'll see that this was not your run of the mill 1979 Dodge Aspen Sport Wagon. This car is equipped with the Optional 318 V8 Engine, Console Shifted Automatic Transmission, AM-FM 8 Track Stereo, Tinted Glass, Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Cruise Control, Rare Gold Cast Aluminum Road Wheels so on top of the $630 Decor Group, this 1979 Aspen Sport Wagon is quite heavily Optioned and is one very Cool Original car! This 1979 Dodge Aspen Sport Wagon is not only heavily Documented but it is also very Original. This car still retains its Original Bill Of Sale, Owners Manual, Sales Literature, 8 Track Stereo Demo Tape, Original Registrations, Original Inspection Certificates, Original Financing Documentation, Original Stereo Manual, Original Warranty Paperwork, Original New Car Inspection Done at the Dealership and all Maintainence records from New. The car also has its Original Dash Mounted Vin Number, Original Drivers Door Vin Decal, 2 Original Fender Tags and a large Inspection Tag attached to the Fender Tags, Original Vin Number Stamped into the Radiator Support etc etc. The engine and transmission do not appear to have ever been touched outside of common maintainence items. The Engine Runs beautifully and is extremely reliable. The Transmission shifts Perfectly. There are no unusual noises and no unusual smoke of issues.... Transmission goes into gear perfectly and shifts like new. Mechanically the car is very good although it has not been used much over the last 10 years or so with just 1,400 miles since 2001. I recently installed New BF Goodrich T/A Radials on the Original Gold Cast Road Wheels and the car drives beautifully. All of the electrical components work perfectly including the Dash Lights, All Gauges, Gas Gauge, Speedometer, Temp Gauge, Headlights, Side Marker Lights, Turn Signals, Horn, AM-FM 8 Track Stereo although the Original Speakers are tired. The Parking Lights, Brake Lights, Running Lights, Interior Dome Light, Courtesy Lights, Console Shift Indicator Light, Turn Signals Cancel properly..... Heater and Defroster work properly and the Factory Air Conditioning works and Blows Cold. The Doors all Open and Close Nicely and Lock and Unlock with the Keys. The Windows Roll Up and Down easily with no problems and all of the Glass is in Nice condition. The Tailgate Opens easily and has New Lift Cartridges which keep the Liftgate up with no problems. The Body is in Nice shape and is wearing most of its Original Paint although the Flares and the front Spolier were repainted at one time. These pieces often get rock chips and such because of their location and the front spoiler is low so it takes some chips and such from being driven. The Original Paint is nice and shines quite nicely as you can see in the pictures although it has some nicks and such... door dings but nothing to worry about. Its just a nice old Wagon and quite unusual as these Wagons are seldom seen. The Interior shows nicely overall with beautiful Original Door Panels and a very Nice Original Instrument Cluster. There is some minor wear on the drivers side bucket seat and the passenger side front carpet is showing some wear although neither is a big deal nor offensive by any means as this is one very attractive driver. The Rear Cargo area is very clean overall and the Original Rear Carpeting is quite nice. The Original Locking Storage Compartments are in Good shape and open, close and lock properly. The Original TUFF Steering Wheel is in Nice shape. The Dash Pad has a couple of cracks although I have a Beautiful Original Dash Pad that will go with the car if the Reserve is met. The Original Bumpers and all Original Chrome and Trim still show nicely for Original pieces and I wouldnt touch a thing. Id just enjoy driving this rather rare old Dodge Wagon. All in All this is a very Original and heavily Documented 1979 Dodge Aspen Sport Wagon and one of just 265 Built. These cars are very rarely seen let alone seen in such clean Original condition. This is a very Original car that was with one Owner for the first 22 years of its life and then it was in the hands of a collector. This car has always been well loved and cared for and while in my care its an even better car as Ive treated it to come freshening without jeopordizing its Originality. This is a great car that can be enjoyed now and your not likely to see another like it while your at your local Cruise Night gathering or Car Show. This Dodge Aspen Sport Wagon is a very nice original car wearing its original paint which looks nice as you can see but has some door dings and various minor flaws. Its a a true survivor in my opinion. The Original Interior has held up quite well over the years with some minor wear on the drivers side bucket seat which would be easy enough to have a couple of the panels in the lower section replaced to preserve its originality. The carpets are a little tired and the Dash does have some cracks in the Pad but a beautiful Original comes with the car if reserve is met. The Dash Pads are tough to find and expensive if you need one. The interior shows very nice overall. The Console is quite nice as is the Instrument Panel. The Console Door could use some adjusting and its a little discolored but thats an easy fix and could be made to look beautiful with an hours time. The interior is very nice overall. The Cargo area is very original and clean throughout with a rustfree original spare tire well. The undercarriage is nice and clean and solid as they comes... its shows much of the original paint and factory primer along with very light undercoating in places... all original undercarriage and just super solid like the rest of the car... never a rusty car.... very original, runs and drives great and all original documentation...everything works..... no real issues, just a nice original low production Dodge Aspen Wagon and very rarely seen in any condition let alone a nice Original Survivor thats loaded up with options and with a stunning color combination. IVE NEVER SEEN ONE LIKE IT! As you can see the car is exactly as it was equipped from the Factory or from Lynn Hickey TRI-CITY Dodge and very little has been done over the years except general maintainence work. This is a very Nice Original car and these Sport Wagons are very rarely offered for sale in any condition let alone a very Nice and Heavily Documented all Original car like this. The only others that Ive seen for sale over the years have been (2) 6 Cylinder Cars that needed complete restorations. I have never seen another nice Original Survivor like this anywhere let alone with all of these cool options and all of the Original Documentation. If your looking for one of these elusive Dodge Aspen Sport Wagons or the Aspen R/T Wagons as they are called then this might be the car for you. This 1979 Dodge Aspen Sport Wagon is believed to be the earliest of the Sport Wagon Package cars although I have no absolute proof. Im just going by different articles that Ive read and by some of the information posted on the internet. In not saying that this makes this car any more or less valuable than any others but its an interesting note to the cars already interesting and very well documented past. This 1979 Aspen Wagon is just another one of those unusual Wagons that Ive had the opportunity to play with in my 35 years in the hobby. I distinctly remember these Dodge Aspen Wagons and the Volare Wagons when they were New on the lots of Local Dodge Dealers Like Northeast Dodge in Philadelphia and Gegnas Chrysler-Plymouth also in Philadelphia and with the many Aspen & Volare Wagons that made their way to these very popular Philly New car Dealerships, I never saw a single New Aspen or Volar Sport Wagon although there were plenty of New Dodge Aspen R/T and Volare Roadrunners on their lots. I guess its no wonder that I didnt see many of these cars over the years as there were only "265" 1979 Dodge Aspen Sport Wagons built in 1979 and only "353" of the 1979 Volare Sport Wagons and in 1980, there were only "54" of the Dodge Aspen Sport Wagons and only "87" of the Volare Sport Wagon Package cars built. These Dodge Aspen and Plymouth Volare Sport Wagons were essentially 1979 + 1980 Aspen R/T Wagons and Volare Roadrunner Wagons with all of the same pieces used on the Aspen R/T and Volare Roadrunner Coupe's. Of course some will argue that these Wagons were Not Aspen R/T or Volare Roadrunner's and technically they would be correct but one of the reasons that Chrysler offered these Aspen + Volare Sport Wagon Packages was to get the attention of the younger crowd or young families who still wanted something kind of cool and sporty that didnt feel like Grandma's old Woodgrain Station Wagon. It is my opinion that Chrysler did a wonderful job with these little Sport Wagon Package cars and even though sales were not a huge success, they have certainly left their mark in Chrysler History. I like these cars and absolutely love the idea of having this very cool 1979 Dodge Aspen in its Original White Paint with its Wheel Flares, Front Spoiler, Roof Mounted Spoiler, Blacked Out Grill, Side Stripes, Rare Optional GOLD Aluminum Road Wheels with NO ROOF RACK which was an option by the way and the other (2) Sport Wagons that I saw were equipped with the Roof Racks. I love the fact that this White Aspen Sport Wagon has the Optional 318 V8 engine which is one of the most dependable and economical engines ever built by Chrysler.... Love the Canyon RED Interior with those COOL Bucket Seats and the Optional Floor Console, Cruise Control and that Way COOL TUFF Steering Wheel.... AM-FM 8 Track Stereo that works perfectly.... Cold Air Conditioning and of course the Power Steering and Power Disc Brakes, Full Tinted Glass and those Cool Dual Painted Racing Style Mirrors.... Take all of these things and then take into consideration that this car is wearing nearly all of its Original Paint.... no signs of any accidents.... completely Original Interior and then add in the Known Owner History from Day 1 with absolutely every pieces of Original Documentation and all Service Records from Day 1 .... It just doesnt get much COOLER in my opinion. THE DODGE WAGON IS PRICED FAIR CONSIDERING ITS SURVIVOR CONDITION, AMAZING DOCUMENTATION AND ITS ORIGINALITY... WELL KEPT, ALWAYS LOVED AND THE PAPERWORK THAT I WILL SHOW IN THIS AUCTION IS JUST A SMALL PORTION OF THE ORIGINAL DOCUMENTATION THAT GOES WITH THIS CAR.... ITS GREAT STUFF.... CALL TONY 215-499-2693 AND WE CAN TALK. PLEASE SCROLL DOWN FOR MANY PICTURES OF THIS DODGE WAGON.......... CALL TONY 215-499-2693 By the way, there is much more paperwork that what is shown in this auction. There is simply too many pieces of original documentation to list in this auction and far too many original service records. Thanks again for looking and call Tony 215-499-2693 with questions. Thanks again for taking the time to read this rather long auction. Absolutely everything on this car works including all of the lights, signals, side marker lights, headlights, high & low beams, parking lights, brake lights, running lights, all gauges, speedometer, odometer, cruise control, horn, cigarette lighter, Dash Lights, Heater & Defroster, Air Conditioner, Wipers, AM-FM 8 Track Stereo and I am very happy to say that absolutely everything worked as it should except for the wipers and I cant tell you why but I will have a look at this tomorrow if I have the time. Im sure its simething simple. The Stereo and 8 Track Player work fine and as intended but the car still has the old Original Chrysler Speakers and they were mediocre at best when they were new and they could be replaced easily. The Tailgate stays open on its own as I recently replaced the original Tailgate Strut Props with New High Quality replacements and they work great so no problems with the Liftgate/Tailgate staying open on its own and closing nicely. The car appears to be weraing most of its original 32 year old paint and it looks good although there are various door dings, nicks and such that you would expect on any 32 year old vehicle but it still presents itself well. The interior is all original with some wear on the drivers side bucket seat.... nothing any upholstery guy couldnt take care of as a few of the panels could stand repair or replacing....the seat does not need to be recovered, just have a few small sections pieced in..... carpets are worn on the passenger side front but otherwise look nice. The Dash pad shows some cracks...nothing offensive but the car comes with an absolutely Mint Original Dash Pad to replace the original if you choose to do so. The Original TUFF Steering Wheel is still in nice shape and feels good when your driving. The car is as solid as a rock and very original with all original documentation. These cars are very difficult to find in any condition and finding one in the Factory Original White Paint with a Red Bucket Seat Interior, Floor Mounted Shifter with Optional Full Console, Special Gold Road wheels which are very rarely seen.... factory AM-FM 8 Track Player, Factory Air Conditioning, Dual Painted Remote Racing Mirrors, Front and Rear Roof Spoliers, Wheel Flares, Cruise Control, Power Steering and Power Disc Brakes and then there are the options that I wouldnt want to see on this car like a Roof Rack which would make this look like either a family car or an old mans car in my opinion.... this car never had a Roof Rack and Im glad it didnt..... just love the nice clean look it has just the way it is. This car has never been butchered up in any way and is for the most part, very original.... 2 Registered Owners, original owner and then his son and after that, collector owners and stored since 2001. The paperwork and original documentation is wonderfiul.... the car has like New BF Goodrich T/A Radial Tires which were mounted and balanced and the car drives beautifully. The Doors Lock and Unlock with the keys... all windows go up and down nicely. All of the Glass is Nice. The Original Chrome and Trim is good original 32 year old trim... bumpers are nice but not new. This is a nice original Survivor type car that can be used and enjoyed just the way it is for years to come or you can improve on it as you feel the need. I think its a great old Wagon and chances of finding another like it anytime soon are slim as Im sure you'd agree. Please come and see the Wagon in person if your able. Nothing beats a personal inspection. Its a great old car but it is a 32 year old original with 90,000 original miles. I dont think anybody would be disappointed as the car is exactly what I say it is but please feel free to come and check it out in person or call me if your interested and I will go over every panel for you. Thanks again for all of the interest in this interesting and quite Rare Dodge Aspen Wagon. Call Tony with questions at 215-499-2693.
