Vehicle Detail

This car was built when Toyota was building tanks. Too bad they don't make 'em like they used to. I wouldn't hesitate to drive this vehicle across the country tomorrow. Almost everything on it is 100% original, except for a set of ball joints, a starter, brake linings and disks, and perhaps the occasional sensor here and there. This was my mother's car. She purchased it in 2005 with 60k miles on it and has put 130,000+ miles on it. She commuted 50 miles round trip to work 4-5 times a week and 250 miles round trip from Connecticut to Rhode Island nearly every week to bother me, so the majority of those miles are in fact highway miles. The car was maintained at J & R Service Center in Fairfield, CT. We have a stack of receipts in a nice organized file detailing the service and maintenance history. The car is not without its flaws. The interior needs a good cleaning. The trim around the cupholder is peeling, there is some delamination on the wood trim around the gauges (pictured), and the interior in general just really hasn't been properly cleaned in the last 50K+ miles. All of the windows, lights, sunroof work as they should. There is an intermittent problem with the automatic door locks. Occasionally the rear doors do not lock or unlock if you use the the button to lock all the doors. They still lock and unlock manually though. The display on the radio has a few faded pixels, but you can still find your station and the radio still works great. The sound is top notch. There is some body damage. The car was backed into at the supermarket, and the trunk is pushed in (pictured). The car was hit in the front drivers side at some point so the left fender has a very small dent in it (pictured), and there is a small crack in the bumper cover below the fog light (pictured). It was backed into another car, and there is a scrape and minor dent on the seem between the passenger quarter panel and the rear bumper cover (pictured). There is a small scrape on the rocker panel on the passenger side (pictured). Overall, the car doesn't look too bad in my opinion. The paint is still glossy and really shines, the pictures don't do it justice. All 4 wheels have some curb rash and could use a thorough cleaning. There is a full size spare tire on a matching wheel in the trunk. The Check Engine Light is on. Our mechanic has said that it is an O2 sensor. These cars have 4 O2 sensors, 2 upstream and 2 downstream of the catalytic converter, if I recall correctly. This is upstream of the catalytic converter. The part is about $150 and we chose not to replace it at that time it was discovered. I have an estimate in writing identifying which sensor it is and saying that this is why the check engine light is on. It does not seem to affect the vehicles performance or MPG, but obviously it will need to be replaced before passing emissions. This car has always passed emissions in the past with no problems. The front end does have a few small rattles when going over choppy pavement. And I emphasize small, it takes really choppy uneven pavement to be noticed. I suspect it is a worn bushing or two. Otherwise, the car rides really smooth like the day she bought it. The transmission still shifts smoothly and as it should. It does not slip at all. The motor pulls hard and is smooth with no knocks or noises. It doesn't smoke. It doesn't burn oil. Mechanically, I've never been more impressed with any vehicle than I have with this one. The Air Conditioning works flawlessly. There isn't a better car for the dog days of summer than this Lexus. If it doesn't meet my reserve, I'm going to keep it and sell my Jeep instead. I've tried my best to describe every known problem with the car, and in doing so, I've probably made it sound worse than it really is. This is a great car. I feel bad seeing it go, but there is no room for it.
