Up for auction is a rare 1979 Audi Fox with no reserve. The car has 48,298 original miles. Has the VW fuel injected 1.6L 4 cylinder engine with an automatic 3 speed transmission that shifts great. The engine runs nice and smooth. Also it doesn’t leak, smoke or use oil. This car is mostly original and complete. A little history first, this car was purchased new in 1980 by an elderly gentleman who kept the car in a garage when not driving it. He passed away a couple of years ago and the family decided to pass it on to me last summer. When I got the car home I put in a different battery and changed the oil and air filter. I cranked it over and it started up nicely and idled perfectly, a little loud as the exhaust system needed replacing. I let the car warm up and I then took the car down the road a mile and back and it drove very well. The paint is faded and cracked in various places on the car. He undercoated the car and liked to customize with spray paint underhood and various spots around the exterior. Underhood he spray painted various items. See pics for details. All this effort has kept the rust to a minimum. The only rust through on the car is the bottom rear of both front fenders and the lower quarter panels. The floors and trunk pan are in great shape as is the inner fenders, doors, hood and trunk lid. The doors open and close very nice and solid. The bumpers are in good condition but do have spray paint on them. He used some type of adhesive on the mouldings and the rubber strips on the bumpers. There is grease or undercoating in various spots on the exterior. The car needs a thorough exterior cleansing. All the glass is intact and nice except for one small nick in the front windshield. All the exterior trim is intact as are the emblems. The interior is in fair condition. There is an aftermarket Tach installed on the dash that works. All the lights, signals, switches and horn all work. Even the original clock keeps time. The only issue that I am aware of is the Temp gauge is not working. The car does not overheat at all and the electric fan on the radiator works fine also. The original am/fm radio comes on but only am stations come in. I am guessing the antenna is disconnected. The radio is missing one knob. The seats had covers on them which started to fall apart. I removed the covers and vacuumed the seats. The seats are still a little stained from the covers. The front drivers seat upper part has lost its foam somehow. I did purchase new seat covers and seat pads. The carpet has stains on it. The door panels are in good condition. The car has a manual sunroof that works fine. The tires are in very good condition. This is a factory AC car but some of the parts of the AC have been removed. These parts are in the trunk. This Audi Fox is certainly a collectors piece. The car comes with another complete set of wheels with winter tires. There is also a good spare with the jack. The rear trunk mat is gone. Over the past winter I have done quite a bit of work to the car. I had the original timing belt replaced along with a complete tune-up. The Fuel Pump was replaced along with the fuel filter. Drained the coolant and replaced the Thermostat. Also the CV axles were replaced along with the entire exhaust system which now exits in front of the left rear tire. The car will need some brake work as the pedal is a little spongy. Includes the original owner’s manual, an aftermarket shop manual and the original title. I have not registered this car. I have fixed some of the obvious things on the car. There may be other unknown repairs which need attention. The Audi will be sold as is. Car must be paid in full within 7 days.
