Vehicle Detail

1955 STUDEBAKER SPEEDSTER PRESIDENT ! ALL ORIGINAL NUMBERS – LOW MILES STUDEBAKER HISTORY From the very beginning Studebaker was almost certain to be a success. I grew up with Studebakers, my Dad's favorite car. As a small boy, I loved sitting behind the wheel of his first bullet nose and staring at the green cast of the dash lights. It was so weird, nothing else like it I just loved it. So many other unique cars were built, and they were very good cars. Along the way there were just too many company mistakes, too much money wasted, too many chiefs...........You will enjoy reading all about it as I have collected well over 100 books, manuals, articles and magazines that will go to the new owner. Studebaker was already in big trouble in 1955. They had merged with Packard in an effort to bring back their glory days. It was decided to build a wild looking Sports car with room for five adults in order to set the Big Three back on their heels. In the fall of 1954, Studebaker built 14 special President Hardtops. These special show cars featured tri-level paint jobs, diamond pleated upholstery, full instrumentation, an 8,000 rpm tachometer and a 160 mph speedometer all mounted in a reinforced dash with an engined-turned metal face, dual exhaust, wire wheel covers, fog bumperettes, a special hood ornament, dual back up lights, triple horns and a wide trim strip over the back edge of the roof. The checkered racing emblems added the final touch. (Please step ahead with me for just a minute. The car offered here includes every original part of the factory built cars) That sums it up, the original show cars, planned for exhibition only, aroused so much interest they were put into limited production. This was a respected performance car, also. The horsepower was stepped up from stroking the V8 engine and adding a four- throat carburetor. The engine was given a new name, the Wildcat. The Speedster...Lighting on wheels, a rare limited production automobile built for one year only...........1955. THIS 1955 STUDEBAKER SPEEDSTER: It is a pleasure to introduce this absolutely striking, most desirable Studebaker President Speedster. The car is highly original, beautiful cosmetically and a superb example of one of the worlds most unusual cars. The car exhibits excellent drive qualities and is completely ready to drive. It starts instantly and to the best of my knowledge, it is in need of nothing. I have driven this car on many occasions and find it to be free of any mechanical problems. It has been treated with extreme care for the past 56 years and it shows. This cars final assembly date was 06/08/55 the factory order number is 474474. It was shipped to Seaford, New York on 06/09/55. The original build sheet has been framed and will go with the car. The previous owner was a Studebaker fan for his entire life. I bought it from his estate. He really took care of this car. It was his friend. Always garaged, of course and never driven in inclement weather. A picture of it is engraved in front of his favorite tavern. This car has all of the original equipment in place. Even the original exhaust tips are in place. They are impossible to find. I will walk around the car and show you what I see to the best of my ability. Let's start with the trunk. As goes the trunk, so goes the rest of the car. It is original. There is no damage, no rust and as solid as new. You will find the original jack. I left all of the items in the trunk, just as I found them; a duster, a fender cover, and build sheet. The engine compartment is completely original and in very good condition. I could have re-done the valve covers, but decided these were just fine in their original state. Every part of the engine and component parts are intact, even the wires. I have followed these cars for years and have never found one with the original air cleaner. Please notice the original fan shroud. It's all here - a pleasure to show. It is that nice. There is plenty of power. In my opinion this cars runs, handles and drives just like new. The exterior is beautiful. It is low swung, road hugging with sports car styling and performance. A masterpiece of brilliance and brawn. Lighting fast on the take off. This Speedster lays right on the road and gives you a secure feeling at any speed. It runs, drives, shifts and handles like a dream! The exhaust traveling through the pipes has a wonderful sound as it exits the chrome tips. WHAT A CAR. YOU JUST CAN'T BEAT IT! The three color combo is most striking. I did not take any creative pictures. Even though close up pictures are not as pretty, I wanted you to see the car as I did, standing next to it. The body is razor straight. There are few flaws, seen only by a trained eye. This is a 'WOW' car all the way. The acres of chrome are in extraordinary condition. Bright and gleaming, every bit of it. Please notice the close up pictures. The original wire wheels are close to new and so are the tires. Again, notice the exhaust tips. They sure draw a lot of attention. The interior is just as exciting as the exterior. The driver is King here. Cockpit type instruments surround you as you settle in. The whole interior is sports car luxury at its finest. Rich diamond stitched seats and rear window. You will be amazed how much the rear window dresses up the whole car when looking in. It seems like it surrounds the entire car. All of the interior shows well above average to excellent. Even the original deep pile carpet is very well maintained and shows well. There is nothing else like it. The 'race car' instrument panel with its huge 8000 rpm tachometer and 160 mph speedometer created quite a stir back in '55. The speedster is a car to behold. It won 35 international awards for excellence. This is an exceptional turn key automobile. Enjoy looking. The new owner will enjoy owning a part of history almost no one else has.
