*****Please note the following listing is being relisted due to non payment by the winning bidder…please bid only if you are interested.***** 1973 Mercedes 300 SEL 4.5 Collector Car LWB Sedan (Production 1972 Titled 1973) Only 1,897 made in 1972 … Only 2,553 made total . My car production # is 2433 (production May 1971 - Oct. 1972) Very low reserve…appreciate your interest. I am Mercedes collector offering for sale this 3 owner US version of 300 SEL with a 4.5 engine…a lot less to maintain then the 6.3 engine. I am the third owner for this 176,000 miles fully documented GA car with a clean title on-hand and always garaged. The car recently went through a complete cosmetic interior restoration. All new door/window/trunk seals replaced including seat leather/arm rests/center console pad/floor mats, hat shelf in original German leather and carpeted. I will try to accurately describe the car however if there is anything I missed, please ask me and I will respond to you as quickly as I can. Thank you and good luck bidding. Pictures were taken on Panasonic Lumix Digital Camera and DSLR Sony A315. http://s896.photobucket.com/albums/ac170/ronvar/Mercedes%20Benz%2073%20300%20SEL/ For comparison, a comparable 300 SEL 4.5 previously for sale in EBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Red-Fox-s-1972-Mercedes-300-SEL-4-5-Run-s-Great-/320651189895?pt=US_Cars_Truckstor cars maintain their value and reliability Engine/Brakes: Starts rights up after being idle for weeks, No smoke..fuel mixture correct. No leaks. The previous owner had replaced with new OE parts: distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs, wires, points, fuel filter, fuel hoses, belts, antifreeze, brakes pads, master cylinder, calipers rebuilt, brake hoses, all brake rotors, transmission mounts, all the seals windshield, and doors, lights. K&N air filter. Motor mount changed. Timing chain, chain guides, valve guides, grind the valves were replaced with 137,297 miles. No oil leak. The hood has brand new OE German made hood insulator. Transmission: Column shift transmission. Smooth, serviced and with no hesitation in shifting. There is no leaks. Transmission mount also changed. Under Chassis: Clean and dry with no oil/fluid leaks. Paint: The paint is original DB291"dark olive/green" it's got the lacquer shine however a fresh coat wouldn't hurt. There is no known rust chassis or body…except for a small quarter size bubble by the rear right brake lights along the chrome. There are no dings/dents on the car body. Air Suspension System: Less than 10 years ago when this particular car underwent restoration the car had all air hoses replaced and a rebuilt set of air valves installed with 4 new air bellows. Front, and rear suspension bushings where also changed. The previous owner has also changed the shocks, tie rods, bushing etc. During my ownership, I have noticed that the car looses air after 3-4 days. The suspension does evenly drops on all wheels. My mechanic suggested that it may be the o-rings in the main value (which controls the air flow in the two front and one rear sub-values). Just didn't get a chance to look at it yet. Once the car starts, the car lifts to normal operational level in 5 minutes. Leather: I spent approx $4000 to install completed new leather seats from a finest leather supplier for classic MB leather in California. The leather is German Cognac and interior carpets are Saffron. The car has new floor mats in the original saffron. Steering and dash has a small crack. Door Panels: All door panels are good expect for the front driver side door panel which has a small crack in the top. Tires: Noticed that the Michelins had dry rot inside the tire groves. Based on safety, replaced with 4 NEW white wall tires - Good Year Integrity… Glass: All glass are excellent with no cracks/scratches. Rear Hat Shelf: Redone with original Saffron with new Pioneer Speakers. Original Becker Speaker comes with the sale. Wood: The woodwork is excellent. Burlap. Air Condition/Heat: AC and Heat works as well as the blower. The heater levers also works. Chrome: All interior/exterior chrome are beautiful with a great shine to it. There is one small ding on the front right bumper which is hard to show in the picture. Just to be honest, the wheel trims are polished stainless steel installed not to cover rust but for looks. Trunk: Clean with original rubber mat, tools, spare tire and saffron mat. Electrical: All electric work on the car including vacuum locks, power windows switches, wipers, horn, interior/exterior lights including the trunk light. Even the original Hirschman electric antenna works. Documentation: The car comes with a fair amount of maintenance and parts receipts, manuals, $300 dollar shop manual (2), Becker Europa factory manual, etc..
