Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a beautiful R1200GS! I bought the bike new as a demo from Max BMW with 521 miles on the clock. It has been well taken care of and you can see by the pictures it is very clean. I have a collection of bikes and take good care of my toys. That being said, the bike is like new. It has had all its service done at BMW and I have all the paperwork showing this. The last service was right before I put it away last year. So far this year I have only ridden it around 200-300 miles. The bike is a real pleasure to drive and out of all the bikes I have owned, this is by far the most pleasurable to ride. It is a very smooth motorcycle that is at home touring, sporting, or even in the dirt if you so desire. It has definitely been proven as the bike to ride if you are going around the world, weekend trip, or just out for a Sunday ride. The bike has very low miles and needs nothing. The reason for me selling it is, ready for this… I bought a new one. When I bought the bike there was doubt that the bike was as good as they say, or maybe it wouldn’t be the right bike for me. I have tried many bikes over the years and I can say that the last two were wrong to say the least. I bought a Yamaha Stratoliner as well as a Harley Street Glide. Both of which I sold well under a thousand miles and a couple of weeks/months after buying them. Both bikes just didn’t agree with my riding style nor delivered the comfort I was looking for. I always read good things about the GS and everyone who owns them are more riders them posers so I thought I would give it a try. I have owned BMW bikes in the past and always like the engineering and quality that went into them. They are considered riders' bikes. This led me to buy the demo model GS and settle for the way it was equipped as well as the color to save a few bucks and to see if the bike and I got along. I am happy to say that the bike is everything they say it is and more! I then started to buy the accessories for it that make it compatible with my riding, GPS, fog lights, tall windscreen, etc. but I kept thinking about getting the one I wanted. Well, I pulled the trigger and found the one I was looking for with the color and options I wanted/needed. There is a fine line between want and need that is for sure! Anyway that is the story of the bike. Back to this bike… the bike is what BMW calls Tanzanite Blue and has lots of options: Low seat Heated grips $250; as far as I am concerned BMW makes the best in the business with their function. They get hot fast and stay hot and it is the whole grip that heats not like some of the other manufactures where only the front or back heats up. ESA (electronic suspension adjustment)$800; this is a nice feature as you can adjust your suspension on the fly while riding with the push of a button. Tighten it up or soften it up all while seated and riding. It definitely is a good time to be a rider in today’s day and age. Integral ABS II $1,100; as far as I am concerned this is a must have for the safety factor alone. On board computer $295; this option tells you how many miles to empty, clock, etc. Hand protection $100; nice to get the mitts out of the cold Saddle bag mounts $200; not the bags mind you but the mounts… Lastly was destination fee of $495 making the total retail for the bike at $17,990.00 before tax, set up, and blah blah blah. Anyway I did get a break as it was a demo so it wasn’t that bad. Now the extras… BMW cylinder guards $236 BMW Vario side cases $Free as promotion BMW Vario Inner bags $286 BMW extra accessory Plug $82 BMW Tall windscreen $115 Touratech cockpit cover w/ acc. plugs $80 Touratech Can bus system $56 Wunderlich magnetic oil plug $12 Wunderlich tank guards $40 Wunderlich oil cooler guard $90 Kaoko cruise control $124 GPS mount (bar not cradle) $100 All of which is staying with the bike and is included in the sale. There were more items that will not be included, like: Garmin 550 GPS mount; the wiring will be there as well as the mount (bar that the cradle mounts to) but the cradle is going on my new bike. BMW factory fog light kit; again the wiring & hidden switch will be there but the fog lights are going on my new bike. There is also an auto switch that uses the turn signal switch to activate the fog lights keeping the dash clean. This will save you considerably if you decide you want to install the fog lights as this was over a seven hundred dollar ordeal and would cost the new owner considerably less as they would only need to buy the fog lights themselves. No wiring and or labor to install. Just bolt on the lights and plug those in along with the switch and it’s done. I just couldn’t see taking the bike apart for the wires. So again to be clear, the bike will be wired for the GPS and fog light kit but they will NOT be included. The Can Bus system from Touratech is very nice when you want to add an accessory so you will be happy that it is there. All of these items listed as far as I am concerned are must have farkles especially the cruise control! The total was well over a thousand with shipping and labor to install. This is a nice bonus to have it done for you and have it done right. My local BMW dealer is great and the mechanics attention to detail is spot on. The white box on the windscreen is my speedpass (toll payment) - this will be taken off the bike (which will leave a small hole in the windscreen where it was mounted) Service History: Max BMW first service at 516 miles on 9/24/09 Wagner BMW second service at 1373 miles on 4-14-2010 Wagner BMW third service at 2774 miles on 11-27-2010 I feel service is very important as you can see, especially in the beginning of a motor's break-in and as I stated before I have all the paperwork for said services and accessories. The bike is still under BMW factory warranty till 9/17/12 or 36k miles. There is plenty of warranty left so ride and enjoy without uncertainty. The bike will also come with owner’s manual, tool kit, extra keys (even the little plastic one), original build sheet, all of which was made into a little book nice and neat in a binder. To say the bike is well taken care of is understatement, and me buying another one is a testament to how good I feel the bike is. Thanks and good luck with the bidding. I hope to recoup as much costs as I can to help offset the new bike. Thanks and enjoy the pictures…
